Chapter 39: A Blood-Red Bead

Jieyue watched in the direction Bai Muxue had gone, lost in thought.

Even though she was the closest person to Bai Muxue, at this moment she couldn’t quite see through her.

“But I have a method that lets me use another witch’s magic temporarily, using her power as a medium.”

“Though the number of uses and the duration are very short. But you never know when it might help.”

“I see.” Bai Muxue nodded.

“But if we just walk back in there, won’t my sister catch us? She’s probably still inside…” Bai Muxue worried she would run straight into Bai Yun, and then it would be impossible to explain.

“No, Jieyue already left,” Bai Ye answered firmly. “And Lan left too. No one’s in there.”

“That’s good.” Bai Ye’s answer eased Bai Muxue’s worries, and she went back to the battle site.

Blood Rose had been driven back, and the pool of blood she left behind was gone. But Bai Muxue could still smell a faint trace of blood in the air.

That meant Blood Rose’s magical power hadn’t fully dissipated.

“Good thing we came early enough.” Bai Ye materialized beside Bai Muxue and raised her right hand.

The next moment, Bai Muxue felt something in the air gathering toward Bai Ye’s right palm.

Soon, a blood-red bead, like a little glass marble, formed in Bai Ye’s hand.

“What’s this? It looks kind of pretty.” Bai Muxue reached out and picked the bead up. She could vaguely see a flash of blood-red light inside.

If blood magic really was strong, the answer would be clear: Bai Ye was gathering it to boost their odds against the magical girls later.

“Not really that strong.” After a moment’s thought, Bai Ye answered.

“Then why…?”

Bai Ye’s answer caught Bai Muxue off guard.

‘If blood magic isn’t strong, why bother collecting it? For fun?’

“Just a sudden little idea.” Bai Ye pressed the bead between both hands and layered a dark magic over it to hide its presence.

“Keep the bead safe. As long as Bai Yun doesn’t see it directly, she won’t be able to sense it.” Bai Ye tossed it over to Bai Muxue.

The bead arced through the air, and Bai Muxue scrambled to catch it.

“You’re really not afraid of dropping this thing…” Bai Muxue said. “Hey, if it hits the ground, will it explode?”

“Maybe.” Bai Ye answered casually.

“?!” Hearing that it might explode, Bai Muxue cupped the bead in both hands, terrified it would fall and blow up.

If the bead exploded, Bai Muxue probably wouldn’t die, but the convention venue definitely wouldn’t survive.

“Haha, why so nervous? I was just kidding.” Seeing Bai Muxue so tense, Bai Ye couldn’t help laughing.

“…” Bai Muxue suppressed the urge to kick Bai Ye twice and tucked the bead into her coat pocket.
