Chapter 54: A Familiar Face

Bai Muxue brought Bai Ye to the vicinity of her school, Changfeng Polytechnic University.

“I thought you’d take me to some high school in Changfeng City. Didn’t expect you’d bring me here.” Bai Ye was surprised.

“Why would you think I was taking you to a high school?” Bai Muxue couldn’t help asking.

“Isn’t there a saying in your world that high school is the hardest, most exhausting three years?” Bai Ye answered.

“…”

Bai Muxue frowned.

She really couldn’t argue with that.

Because it was true.

She couldn’t help thinking about her own high school days: endless homework, endless evening study sessions, staying up late burning the midnight oil every day.

The more she thought, the more her head ached.

Forget it. She stopped thinking.

“Looks like my words stirred up some unpleasant memories?” Bai Ye looked at Bai Muxue, who was holding her head, and asked.

“No… well, actually a little,” Bai Muxue admitted.

“Seems like you’ve been slacking off in this world for quite a while, or you wouldn’t know that.”

“But there’s something you haven’t realized. It’s not just high school students. College students have plenty of grievances too.”

“Huh?” Bai Ye found it hard to understand.

“Don’t people online all say that college is easy?”

“Like hell it is… wait, can you put down that phone?” Bai Muxue was about to retort when she noticed a phone in Bai Ye’s hand.

“This thing is pretty fun. Give me a second, I’ll stop soon.” Bai Ye answered casually.

“Give it here!” Bai Muxue snatched the phone while Bai Ye was focused on it, and tucked it away.

Bai Ye realized her phone was gone, then noticed it on Bai Muxue.

“Give it back!” Bai Ye lunged at Bai Muxue.

“I’m doing something important here! How can you be slacking off?” Bai Muxue started arguing with Bai Ye.

“Anyway, as long as we don’t run into any magical girls or other witches, nothing bad will happen, right?”

“That’s still no excuse for slacking off while I’m working!”

The two began tussling, but Bai Muxue was far weaker than Bai Ye.

Unsurprisingly, Bai Ye pinned Bai Muxue against the wall.

And the pose, the angle, felt strangely familiar.

Bai Muxue suddenly remembered: the first time she had fought Ye Li, she had used a similar pose to pin Ye Li against the wall.

“Y-y-you… you’re not going to do something to a kid, are you?” Bai Muxue thought of that and started trembling.

Knowing Bai Ye, she really might do something like that.

“If I remember correctly, you’re an adult now. What kid?” Bai Ye asked.

“At least younger than you.” Bai Muxue answered.

“Seems so.” Bai Ye thought about it. That was true.

“But I don’t have the virtue of caring for kids. If you don’t give the phone back… hehehehe.”

A sly smile spread across Bai Ye’s face.

Bai Muxue said nothing, just kept trembling.

This was really going to be an internal witch conflict.

“It looks like I took it too far.” Bai Ye frowned at Bai Muxue, who was trembling with her eyes shut.

She hadn’t expected Bai Muxue to be such a pushover. One scare and she fell apart.

“Alright, I’m just joking.” Bai Ye let go.

“Really?”

“It’s really true this time.” Bai Ye answered.

“Fine, I’ll trust you this once…” Bai Muxue smoothed her slightly disheveled hair.

Back to business. Bai Muxue and Bai Ye were covertly watching the school not far away.

“Why are there already students going in and out? Is school over?” Bai Ye asked.

“You don’t get it. For college students, when there are no classes, it’s basically vacation.” Bai Muxue replied.

She had plenty of college life experience, obviously far more than Bai Ye.

“So this is your comfort zone.” Bai Ye teased.

“That’s right.” Bai Muxue nodded.

“So when do we start?”

“Now.”

Bai Muxue was just about to use Bai Ye’s invisibility magic to sneak into the school when she suddenly stopped.

She noticed someone walking out of the school.

That person was Ye Li.

“Huh?” Bai Muxue froze.

Ye Li was actually her schoolmate?

Bai Muxue was learning this for the first time.

“Really… unexpected.” This also caught Bai Ye off guard.

Bai Muxue and Bai Ye stared at each other, unsure what to do.

Should they reveal themselves, fight Ye Li, and collect her emotional power? Or stick to the original plan, sneak into the school, and collect the students’ emotional power?

Both options had good rewards. It was really hard to choose.

“Let’s just charge at Ye Li and fight her.” Bai Ye suggested.

“Do you have some kind of berserker attribute?” Bai Muxue glanced at Bai Ye.

She really didn’t want to fight any magical girls at the moment.

Since her debut, she had only fought magical girls twice. The first time, with Bai Ye’s help, she barely won. The second time, she almost got beaten like a stray dog.

If Bai Ye hadn’t pulled a clever trick at the last moment, grabbing Ye Li to threaten Xia Ling, the two of them would probably have been done for.

But that kind of trick could only work once. It probably wouldn’t work a second time.

“Collecting a magical girl’s emotional power would be even better,” Bai Ye replied. “And she’s alone. Two against one. Our odds are great.”

What Bai Ye said made sense.

In a two-on-one fight, Bai Muxue could definitely defeat Ye Li.

“Then let’s do it your way.” Bai Muxue said.

“Start now?” Bai Ye was already eager.

“No… wait. There are too many people around.” Bai Muxue stopped Bai Ye.

The front gate faced a busy street, and there were still many passersby.

If the two fought here, it would definitely affect the bystanders.

Bai Muxue’s intention was only to collect emotional power. If possible, she didn’t want to drag innocent bystanders into it.

“Those psycho witches would probably think you’re some kind of saint.” Bai Ye said.

“But I think it’s good. Let’s quietly follow her for now.”

“Okay.”

Bai Muxue quietly followed behind Ye Li.

“Eh?” Not long after leaving the school, Ye Li suddenly stopped and looked around.

She had a constant feeling of being watched by someone.

But when she turned around and scanned the area, she found nothing suspicious.

‘Was it just her imagination?’

“Maybe it’s because I didn’t sleep well last night…” Ye Li figured it might have been her imagination, shook her head, and continued on.

“That was close. I almost got caught.” Bai Muxue, hiding behind a tree, patted her chest.

A faint black mist wrapped around her. It was Bai Ye’s concealment magic, which made her unnoticeable.

Once Ye Li let her guard down, Bai Muxue quietly followed again.
