“The effect is a bit off, don’t you think?” Bai Ye commented.
“Is it? I think it looks great.” Bai Muxue glanced at the photo again, thinking Changle had done a good job.
“Maybe.” Bai Ye didn’t pursue it further.
“Brother Changle, what about the photo of me and Xiaoxue?” Ye Li reminded him, rubbing her hands together impatiently.
“Oh, you just reminded me.” Changle said. “Who’s paying?”
The moment Ye Li heard that, she grabbed Bai Muxue and took a few steps back, leaving Ye Xiaomeng alone in front while Ye Li and Bai Muxue stayed behind.
Now it was obvious who would pay.
“So pay up. Cash or QR code?” Changle didn’t hesitate, pulling out his phone.
“And don’t try to bargain this time.”
“Do I look like the kind of person who doesn’t keep their word?”
“I remember a month ago when you asked me to take your photos, you ‘forgot’ to pay, and it took me half a month of reminding you to get the money back.” Changle didn’t argue, he just brought up another embarrassing story.
“Th-there was no money back then. Whatever, I’ll pay you now. Scan code.”
As Ye Xiaomeng transferred the money, her heart was bleeding.
Looks like it’s back to eating dirt for the rest of the month.
Meanwhile, Ye Li and Bai Muxue were already standing in front of the camera.
Their poses were roughly the same as before, standing together with Ye Li’s right hand holding Bai Muxue’s left.
But this time Ye Li adjusted her pose slightly, raising her left hand in a peace sign.
“Xiaoxue, Xiaoxue, you make one too.” Ye Li said to Bai Muxue.
“I… I have to make one too?” Bai Muxue turned her head to look at Ye Li.
“We’re taking photos here. A peace sign feels better.”
“Fine…” Bai Muxue had no idea where Ye Li had gotten that idea, but she couldn’t argue, so she raised her right hand in a peace sign.
“Ready?” Changle asked.
“Ready!” Ye Li’s voice came through.
Changle pressed the shutter, snapping several photos in a row.
Ye Li pulled Bai Muxue over.
“Brother Changle, the photos!”
“I picked two, they’re pretty similar. Here you go.” Changle handed one to Ye Li and one to Bai Muxue.
“Hey, wait, what about me?” Realizing she’d been ignored, Ye Xiaomeng jumped out, trying to remind them she existed.
“You didn’t take a photo with them, what would I give you a photo for?” Changle rolled his eyes. “If you want one, though, I could do it. Thirty each.”
“…Never mind then.” Ye Xiaomeng stepped back and moved to look at the photo in Ye Li’s hand.
But Ye Li was faster. Before Ye Xiaomeng could see it, she quickly hid the photo away.
“Xiaoli, Xiaoli, aren’t we sisters?” Ye Xiaomeng tried to reason with her.
“Five bucks to look.”
“You’re robbing me!” Ye Xiaomeng quickly gave up that idea.
But fate always leaves a door open, and she noticed Bai Muxue standing nearby.
“Xiaoxue?” Ye Xiaomeng turned to Bai Muxue.
“Uh… If Sister Xiaomeng wants to see it, go ahead.” Bai Muxue didn’t plan to refuse. In fact, she could hardly say no to a pretty girl like Ye Xiaomeng.
“Mm-hm, it came out well. Too bad, though, it would’ve been better if you two were hugging.” Ye Xiaomeng commented while looking at the photo.
Standing beside Ye Xiaomeng, Bai Muxue heard the remark and recalled that when they first met, Ye Li had excitedly hugged her.
Hmm… good thing no one was around to take a photo then.
“So, what are you two planning to do next?” Ye Xiaomeng handed the photo back to Bai Muxue.
“We’re going to keep exploring the con, of course. We’re not even close to done.” Ye Li answered. “What about you, sis?”
“I’m heading home, but before I go I need to find the makeup artist and return the cosplay outfit.” Ye Xiaomeng replied.
As for Changle, someone had called him over to take photos, so he’d grabbed his camera and left.
“Have fun, you two.”
“Yeah!” Ye Li nodded and pulled Bai Muxue along, ready to leave.
“A-a monster!” A shout came from not far away.
The three of them looked over and saw a strange beast appear.
It looked like a wild wolf, but much bigger. Standing upright, it was already taller than Bai Muxue as she was now.
Which said a lot about how short Bai Muxue had become.
“It’s a beast, run!”
The festive mood shattered. People screamed and shoved each other as they fled.
Luckily, it was just a small con with a small crowd, or there would likely have been stampedes.
Bai Muxue wasn’t scared at all. After all, she was a witch now, and this beast didn’t look strong. She could handle it easily after transforming.
Plus Ye Li was right there, and Ye Li was stronger than she was now. Nothing to worry about.
The relationship between witches and beasts was delicate. Sometimes witches fought alongside beasts against magical girls, and sometimes they fought against the beasts.
Who knew, after transforming, Bai Muxue might even team up with this beast to take on Ye Li.
Of course, being attacked by the beast after transforming was also possible.
‘But should I put on an act right now?’ Bai Muxue suddenly realized Ye Li was still here. If she didn’t pretend to be scared, Ye Li might see through her.
“Act scared.” Bai Ye said.
“Why is a beast here…” Ye Li turned to look at Bai Muxue and Ye Xiaomeng. By then, Bai Muxue’s legs had gone weak and her face had turned pale.
Ye Xiaomeng was in much better shape than Bai Muxue.
“You dummy sis, what are you standing there for? Run!” Ye Xiaomeng grabbed Ye Li with one hand and Bai Muxue with the other, scrambling away.
“I… wait, aaaah!” Ye Li had just been about to transform and deal with the beast, but Ye Xiaomeng yanked her away, cutting off her transformation before it even started.
As for why Ye Li was bold enough to transform in public, it was because magical girl transformations came with a perception filter.
Even if ordinary people saw them transform, they wouldn’t connect the identity before and after.
So Ye Li could transform right in front of the two of them without a second thought.
However, she didn’t know that Bai Muxue was actually a witch.
If she had known, she might have found a hidden spot to transform.
Seeing that Ye Xiaomeng could run so fast while dragging both of them, Ye Li had to admit that Ye Xiaomeng really was a little sports prodigy.
But she didn’t need to run at all.
“Transform!” Ye Li transformed mid-run as Ye Xiaomeng dragged her. A flash of golden light, and she became the magical girl Lan, yanking her hand free from Ye Xiaomeng’s grip.
A flicker of surprise crossed Ye Xiaomeng’s eyes, but she didn’t show it. Bai Muxue didn’t notice anything, and let herself be pulled out of the con venue.
