Chapter 38: The Abyss Witch Intervenes

Blood Rose knew she absolutely could not get caught here.

But against the magical girl Jieyue, there wasn’t much she could do.

It wasn’t like she could just get on her knees and beg Jieyue to let her go.

Blood Rose would never do that, and even if she did, Jieyue, as a magical girl, wouldn’t let her off anyway.

“Who knows if those two can even tell that I’m in trouble here. Especially the Abyss Witch. If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t even be in this place.”

“Things are really looking bad now!”

“Getting distracted during a fight is a big no-no.” Jieyue had appeared behind Blood Rose without warning, grabbing her arm.

“Now, the fight is over. Come with me,” Jieyue said. “Otherwise, I don’t mind putting a few holes in you.”

“Witches don’t bleed when they’re hurt, and they don’t feel pain, but injuries still weaken you. That feeling isn’t pleasant at all.”

“How could it end here!” Blood Rose activated her blood magic again, her body dissolving into a mist of blood.

Even Jieyue couldn’t grab a shapeless mist of blood with her hands.

The scattered mist swirled around Jieyue and instantly turned into crimson chains, binding her in place.

The tables had turned… or had they?

“Whew…” Blood Rose’s face was pale. Every time she used this decoy magic, it drained a huge amount of her magic power.

Jieyue was now trapped in the blood chains, looking completely helpless. But Blood Rose knew it would take Jieyue less than a second to break free.

Blood Rose’s goal was never to trap Jieyue with this move. It was to buy time.

And her real goal?

Of course, it was to stall for time and escape!

Originally, Blood Rose wanted to grab Lan as a hostage to threaten Jieyue. Since she was a witch, using such a tactic was no big deal.

But for some reason, whether it was experience or something else, Blood Rose found that Lan had also gone into hiding.

So Blood Rose’s original plan fell apart, and now she could only run while she had the chance.

However, Jieyue broke free from the blood chains even faster than Blood Rose had expected.

“A substitution magic I’ve never seen before. Interesting.” Jieyue said.

“But now, this is really over.”

Jieyue waved her hand, and a wind blade pierced through Blood Rose’s body as she was still fleeing.

Blood Rose, racing through the air, had almost made it out of the place, but fell just short and crashed heavily to the ground.

Lying on the ground and watching Jieyue approach, Blood Rose suddenly thought, ‘Looks like this little rat is done for now.’

“Yo, you’re still alive?” A woman’s voice sounded right next to Blood Rose’s ear.

When Blood Rose heard that voice, she nearly burst into tears.

The Abyss Witch, who was always offline, had finally come online!

But Blood Rose felt something was off with that greeting.

“So you’re basically cursing me to die, huh?”

“This is just my way of caring about my teammates.” The Abyss Witch replied.

“Wow, what a special way to care about your teammates.” Blood Rose shot back.

“What’s going on?” Jieyue noticed that Blood Rose’s body seemed to be radiating the magic power of another witch.

Had another witch entered the fight?

“Abyss Prison!” Blood Rose suddenly stood up, surrounded by magic that resembled dark magic.

This was the Abyss Witch’s unique abyssal magic.

Blood Rose’s magic was blood magic. She couldn’t use this kind.

That made Jieyue even more certain that a new witch had joined the fray.

Thick darkness enveloped Jieyue, making it look from the outside as if she were trapped inside a huge black cocoon.

When Jieyue broke through the Abyss Prison, she found that Blood Rose had already escaped.

“I didn’t think she’d get away after all. I wonder who that witch was who helped Blood Rose.” Jieyue muttered.

According to the association’s intel, Blood Rose had always been alone, and there’d been no word of her associating with other witches.

Looks like after all this time, Blood Rose had formed an alliance with other witches.

“Let’s focus on saving people first.” Jieyue said.

Her magic was wind magic, allowing her to listen to the voice of the wind.

So she knew there were still some people hiding in corners of the convention center who hadn’t managed to flee.

Jieyue hadn’t gone all out for that reason.

If she’d gone all out, she could definitely have caught Blood Rose, but whether those people would survive was another question.

Jieyue raised a hand, and an invisible wind swept across the convention center, carrying the few remaining stragglers outside.

With that, this matter came to a close.

Just as Jieyue was about to leave, she suddenly sensed another presence.

And it felt familiar.

“Xiaoxue…?”

Meanwhile.

“Is the fight over?” Bai Muxue asked.

“It’s over.” Bai Ye withdrew the barrier she had set up.

The shockwaves from the battle between Jieyue and Blood Rose had reached this area, and Bai Ye used the last of her magic to put up a barrier protecting Bai Muxue.

“Blood Rose managed to escape from Jieyue with the Abyss Witch’s help.”

“The Abyss Witch?” Bai Muxue was confused.

“Yeah.” Bai Ye nodded. “But the Abyss Witch isn’t here. She seems to have cast a spell from a distance, creating an opening for Blood Rose to escape.”

“I don’t know the exact details, because I didn’t dare go check the scene. Blood Rose can’t sense me, but Jieyue could easily spot me.”

“If I got caught, I’d be done for.”

“So can we now…”

“Wait, let me hide first. You’ll have to improvise.” Bai Ye vanished into hiding before Bai Muxue could finish.

Before Bai Muxue could react, Jieyue, with her flowing water-blue hair, suddenly appeared in front of her.

Bai Muxue didn’t know that Jieyue had already sent all the civilians away, nor did she know that Bai Ye’s magic was the reason Jieyue hadn’t sensed her earlier.

“Mu… little miss, did you get separated from your family?” When Jieyue saw Bai Muxue, she almost blurted out “Muxue.”

Luckily, Jieyue reacted quickly and changed the form of address. If Bai Muxue discovered her magical girl identity, that would be bad.

Being a magical girl was a highly dangerous profession, whether fighting beasts or witches.

To keep magical girls’ families from doing anything rash after learning their identities, all magical girls were forbidden from revealing themselves in public.

However, what Bai Yun didn’t know was that her magical girl identity had already been discovered by Bai Muxue long ago.

So Bai Muxue almost laughed at Bai Yun’s reaction just now.

“Ah, no, I got separated from my friend.” Bai Muxue suppressed her laughter and answered.

“The danger here is over now, and I’ve sent everyone outside. Go find your friend.” Jieyue bent down and gave a kind smile.

“Mm.” Bai Muxue nodded and quickly left.
