Chapter 25: A Tense Coffee Meeting

Bai Muxue had Bai Ye on her left and Ye Li on her right.

An incredibly beautiful mature woman on one side, a lively and adorable girl on the other. Anyone sitting between them would probably feel lucky, right?

But Bai Muxue had to say that wasn’t the case. At least, she wasn’t feeling any happiness.

In fact, she felt like she was sitting on pins and needles.

Maybe it was just her imagination, but she kept sensing a faint smell of gunpowder in the air.

“Sister Bai Ye? Can you introduce me to her, Xiao Xue? I’d like to be friends with her too.” Ye Li opened the conversation.

“Ah… okay, okay, let me think for a moment…”

Bai Muxue was already breaking out in a cold sweat.

‘How am I supposed to introduce her?!’

Just come out and say Bai Ye is the Eternal Night Witch, then have Ye Li and Xia Ling transform right here and fight a two-on-one battle for justice?

That definitely wouldn’t work.

Then what could she say?

Bai Muxue was desperately trying to come up with a suitable identity for Bai Ye.

“As for me, Xiao Bai and I met online,” Bai Ye said. “We were playing the same game at the time. She was pretty bad at it, so I added her as a friend and taught her how to play.”

“After a while, we got to know each other better. In the end, I suggested meeting up in person, and Xiao Bai agreed.”

“And so we naturally became friends.”

“Is that so?” Ye Li turned to look at Bai Muxue.

“Right, right, exactly!” Bai Muxue nodded repeatedly, and gave Bai Ye a silent thumbs up in her mind.

She hadn’t expected Bai Ye to improvise so well!

That meant Bai Muxue didn’t need to say much more. She could just be an emotionless nodding machine.

“I’ve told you about how Xiao Bai and I met. As a return of courtesy, shouldn’t Sister Ye Li also tell us how she met Xiao Bai?”

Bai Ye raised her cup and took another sip of coffee, a smile on her face.

But what she was actually thinking was that she’d already paid for the coffee, so she had to drink it even if she hated it.

And she was never drinking coffee again. Cola was better.

“It was a night full of stars. Xiao Xue and I first met at the Association building. We chatted happily that night and naturally became friends.”

“Yeah, yeah.” Before Ye Li or Bai Ye could even ask, Bai Muxue had already nodded eagerly.

“Oh, by the way, Xiao Xue, let me tell you, you can’t judge a book by its cover. If someone looks kind and friendly but actually has ulterior motives, that would be bad.” Ye Li’s words carried a clear implication.

As for who exactly Ye Li was referring to…

Everyone present could tell, especially Bai Ye, the one being targeted.

For some reason, Ye Li felt uncomfortable just looking at Bai Ye. Anyone would think Bai Ye had given her a beating.

If Bai Muxue knew what Ye Li was thinking, she’d probably say: Actually, you’ve been beaten more than once. To be precise, twice.

The first time Bai Muxue defeated Ye Li, it was thanks to the magical power Bai Ye provided.

Otherwise, she might have lost her precious side quest record in that alley yesterday noon.

“No need for you to worry about that, Sister Ye Li. Xiao Bai and I have a lot of fun together and get along perfectly, right?”

As she spoke, Bai Ye secretly poked Bai Muxue in the side.

“Mmm…” Bai Muxue felt a tickle where Bai Ye had poked her. She blushed and nodded.

Seeing Bai Muxue blush and remembering Bai Ye’s words about “having fun together,” Ye Li’s imagination ran wild.

“I never thought you’d be that kind of person!” Ye Li pulled Bai Muxue over. “Xiao Xue, is she forcing you?”

“Ah… huh?” Bai Muxue was stunned.

‘Wait, where did that come from?’

‘Ye Li, what are you even imagining?!’

“Me? What kind of person am I?” Even Bai Ye had no idea what Ye Li was talking about.

“It’s… it’s that… that…” Ye Li tried to describe what she had in mind, but saying it out loud was too awkward. She wanted to imply it subtly.

She held back for a long time, but couldn’t get a single word out. She just ended up red in the face.

“Anyway, you’re definitely not a good person!” Ye Li said to Bai Ye.

“How am I not a good person? I’m truly wronged.” Bai Ye clutched her chest and put on a hurt expression.

“Xiao Bai, you’re watching her slander me and doing nothing about it. Don’t you love me anymore?”

Bai Muxue: ???

‘Why are you two both acting so strange?’

‘Forget Ye Li, Bai Ye is even weirder.’

‘Where did she learn all this?’

‘And the tone, the gestures. Anyone would think I’ve done something to wrong Bai Ye.’

“Um… I don’t fully understand what’s going on, but it’s probably all a misunderstanding. Why don’t you two apologize to each other and make up?”

Bai Muxue thought it over and offered what she thought was a great idea.

“No!” Ye Li shouted loudly.

People at nearby tables turned to look. Some had curious eyes, clearly drama enthusiasts. Others looked puzzled, wondering what was happening.

“Ahem, nothing is going on. Everyone, get back to what you were doing.” Xia Ling, who had been watching the show, finally stepped in.

After the onlookers realized there was no drama to enjoy and went back to their business, Xia Ling sat down across from the three and resumed watching calmly.

Bai Ye also continued the discussion.

“I don’t have any problem with apologizing,” Bai Ye said, resting her elbow on the table and propping her head on her hand.

“But no matter how you look at it, Sister Ye Li should be the one apologizing to me, right?”

“Bai Ye, you… Sister Bai Ye, that’s not quite right, is it?” Ye Li stopped mid-sentence and immediately changed her wording.

“I don’t think I said anything wrong,” Bai Ye said.

Bai Muxue realized that her words hadn’t helped smooth things over. Instead, they had made the relationship worse.

This was really bad!

Bai Ye was a witch and Ye Li was a magical girl, so they were supposed to be enemies.

But their identities hadn’t been exposed yet. Why was the atmosphere so explosive?

Bai Muxue felt distressed. She had no idea how to solve this problem.

In fact, she didn’t even know what had caused it.

This was all wrong!

After thinking it over, Bai Muxue cast a pleading look at Xia Ling.

Xia Ling was the only bystander among the four. Bai Muxue could only place her hopes on her.

“Looks like Xiao Xue is quite popular,” Xia Ling said, looking at Bai Muxue. “That makes sense. Such an adorable kid is naturally popular.”

Bai Muxue’s mouth twitched.

‘So this is what it feels like to be popular… It feels pretty bad.’

All Bai Muxue could hope for now was that Xia Ling would resolve this situation and pull her out of the fire.
