Chapter 59: Swap Shadows

Let alone Bai Muxue, even Bai Ye in her current state would definitely not be a match for Lian. Then again, Bai Muxue’s goal wasn’t to defeat Lian, just to buy time.

“Field expansion: Hall of Eternal Night.” Bai Muxue swung Lueying, and dense black mist expanded in all directions.

The mist spread so fast that Lian was enveloped before she could escape its range.

“What is this?” Lian found her perception had dropped sharply in the thick black mist. She couldn’t see clearly either.

“Domain magic… who knew she had this ability.” Domain magic was usually only something powerful witches or magical girls could use.

Inside the domain, it became their home turf, and their magic grew stronger. Lian had only seen domain magic from Shi Lu and Bai Yun.

“But even with the domain’s boost, you’re no match for me now.” Lian raised the long blade in her right hand and easily blocked Bai Muxue’s attack.

If Bai Muxue’s strength were on par with hers, Lian’s perception would be completely blinded by the domain, and she’d have no choice but to be on the defensive.

“Hundred Flowers Bloom.” Lian stepped forward, and one vine after another burst from the ground.

They were extremely thick, taking two or three people to wrap their arms around. Bright flowers bloomed on the vines.

Bai Muxue hurled a mass of pure magic at the vines, blowing them apart. But the vines regrew far faster than she could destroy them.

“Bloom. Spread.” Lian snapped her fingers. The flowers released pollen, filling the air with fragrance.

“So fragrant…” The scent hit Bai Muxue and nearly swept her away entirely.

Bai Ye, still locked in battle with Lan, noticed something was wrong and quickly warned her through their mental link.

[Idiot, don’t fall into it!]

“Huh?” Shaken back to her senses, Bai Muxue blinked. What just happened? She’d almost gotten lost in the fragrance.

“Ah, what a shame.” Lian shook her head. “Still can’t control it?”

Her plant magic had a certain bewitching effect. The scent could make her opponent lose the will to fight.

But it wasn’t strong enough. As now, it couldn’t control Bai Muxue.

“Then I’ll have to make you suffer. Go.” Lian raised both hands. The vines went wild, attacking Bai Muxue all at once.

Bai Muxue slashed again and again, cutting through vine after vine.

But the vines seemed endless. No matter how many she destroyed, the number didn’t drop. It only grew.

“Looks like I need to retreat for now.” Bai Muxue glanced at Bai Ye’s battle. Lan was clearly losing ground, though she could still hold on for a while.

So Bai Ye’s strategy of sacrificing one piece had failed too.

[Run first.] Bai Ye’s voice came through.

“I guess that’s the only way.” Bai Muxue said.

Bai Muxue raised Lueying, black mist curling around the blade.

“Skies Darken!”

She swung once, and all the surrounding vines snapped. As the vines regrew, Bai Muxue seized the gap and ran.

This time, there should be no problem.

But as she ran, Bai Muxue suddenly felt something tugging at her leg.

“Hm?” She looked down. At some point, a thin vine had coiled around her ankle. With her current strength, she could easily break free.

But it was already too late.

“Aaaaaah!” The vine yanked her up, hurling her into the air. Lueying fell from her hand.

But it wasn’t over. The vine whipped her around, back and forth.

After who knows how long, it finally stopped and set her down.

“Stars, so many stars…” Bai Muxue felt this was a hundred times more thrilling than a roller coaster. She nearly threw up from being shaken.

“Looks like I’ve got you this time.” Lian’s voice came. Bai Muxue looked up and saw Lian standing right in front of her.

“Can we make peace?” Bai Muxue pulled out her trump card. If you can’t win, you play nice.

What other choice was there? She couldn’t even run.

“Guess.” Lian didn’t answer. Instead, she summoned more vines around Bai Muxue.

The vines quickly climbed onto her body, binding her arms and legs.

“Something tells me this situation is a little bad…” Bai Muxue said, breaking into a cold sweat. She’d only seen this kind of development in certain things.

And those things were definitely not wholesome.

Meanwhile.

“It really didn’t work, huh?” Bai Ye sighed. She’d given most of her magic to Bai Muxue, yet the fight hadn’t even lasted ten minutes before Bai Muxue was captured by Lian.

The good news was that Lan was exhausted.

“Alright little one, you’ve fought me for this long. Time to lose.” Bai Ye grabbed Lan’s sword hand and punched her in the body.

Exhausted, Lan took the hit and collapsed to the ground.

“Things are a bit rough.” Bai Ye absorbed the rage and resentment from Lan, recovering a little magic. Not much, and it didn’t seem like enough.

“Help! Help! If you don’t come soon, something bad is about to happen to me!” Bai Muxue’s voice rang in Bai Ye’s mind.

Bai Muxue’s domain was still up, so even Lian couldn’t see outside. She also had no idea Lan had been defeated.

“I heard you witches love persecuting magical girls. What if it’s the other way around?” Lian smiled and approached Bai Muxue. The vines around her swayed, as if they were getting excited too.

“Where did you hear that? I don’t do that at all!” Bai Muxue played the part of someone small, pitiful, and helpless.

“Now just take a nap for a while.” Bai Ye knocked out the struggling Lan and tossed her aside.

“Well, give me all your magic.” Bai Ye said to Bai Muxue.

“Okay.” Bai Muxue had no idea what Bai Ye planned, but she didn’t hesitate. She quickly returned all her magic to Bai Ye.

“Swap Shadows.” Bai Ye activated the magic.

Bai Ye and Bai Muxue switched places. Bai Muxue was out of the domain, while the person bound by vines was now Bai Ye.

“Hi” Bai Ye wasn’t flustered at all. She even greeted Lian.

“What magic is this?”

“Just a parlor trick.” Bai Ye raised her right hand.

Boom!

The magic blast shattered all the vines around her.

At the same time, Bai Ye threw three pitch-black daggers at Lian. Lian raised her weapon to block.

But the daggers passed through her body and stuck into the ground behind her.

“Bye bye~” Bai Ye waved, wearing a smirk that just begged to be punched.

After taunting, Bai Ye jumped out of the domain, grabbed Bai Muxue, and ran. Lian tried to chase, but suddenly realized she couldn’t move.
