Chapter 42: A Crimson Ribbon and Silver Sandals

The umbrella of the outdoor café fluttered gently in the afternoon breeze.

Song Qinghuan handed the ordering tablet to the waiter and turned to look at Lin Shishi beside her.

The girl’s small, fair feet were pressed against the cold stone floor, her ten rounded toes slightly curled.

Without shoes or socks, they looked a little pitiful.

Song Qinghuan withdrew her gaze, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips.

The waiter soon brought their order: two glasses of iced lemonade, beads of condensation clinging to the glass; a beautifully arranged fruit platter with bright watermelon, mango, and kiwi; and a small plate of golden, pan-fried fish fillets.

‘Thank you,’ Song Qinghuan nodded to the waiter, pushing one glass of lemonade toward Lin Shishi.

Lin Shishi cupped the cold glass with both hands and took an eager sip.

The cool, sweet-tart liquid slid down her throat, and she squinted in satisfaction.

Her previously aggrieved expression brightened immediately, a faint blush spreading across her cheeks.

‘So sweet…’ the girl said happily, taking another gulp.

Her pink lips became even more moist and plump, and she unconsciously licked the corner of her mouth with the tip of her tongue.

Song Qinghuan watched her satisfied look and laughed softly.

She took a sip of her own lemonade, but her eyes never left Lin Shishi.

‘Hmm…’ Song Qinghuan set down the glass and tapped her fingers lightly on the table.

‘I’ll go check out that shoe shop over there and buy you a pair of sandals.’

She stood up, leaned closer to Lin Shishi, and reached out to ruffle her soft hair.

‘Baby, wait here obediently and don’t wander off.’

Lin Shishi looked up at her and nodded.

‘Yes, Mistress.’

As she spoke, she glanced down at her bare feet on the stone floor, her toes curling involuntarily as if feeling shy.

Song Qinghuan had already turned to leave, but suddenly stopped.

She rubbed her smooth chin, her gaze sweeping over Lin Shishi, then around the café.

A few tables were occupied, and some customers were glancing their way, clearly attracted by Lin Shishi’s innocent yet slightly seductive appearance.

‘No,’ Song Qinghuan suddenly turned back.

‘What if, while I’m away for a moment, someone sees how adorable my little darling looks and just carries you off? That won’t do.’

‘Ah…’ Lin Shishi was startled, nearly dropping her lemonade.

She stared wide-eyed at Song Qinghuan.

‘That can’t be… I’m a grown person, how could I just be carried away…’ she murmured in protest, but her face reddened even more.

She couldn’t help but feel that Song Qinghuan was getting more and more… pervy.

This possessiveness and control were even more exaggerated than the descriptions in her own novels!

Could it be… she was getting too deep into her role?

She was already an adult!!!

But Song Qinghuan paid no attention to her silent complaints.

A sly smile curled at the corner of her lips.

She took a deep red ribbon from her small handbag.

‘Here, lift your foot.’

Lin Shishi hesitated for a moment, then obediently, trembling slightly, raised one foot.

Song Qinghuan bent down, holding her slender ankle with one hand.

With the other hand, she loosely wrapped the deep red ribbon twice around Lin Shishi’s ankle.

Then she tied the other end of the ribbon to a crossbar of the chair Lin Shishi was sitting on.

She tied a beautiful bow and gently patted Lin Shishi’s calf.

‘There, perfect. See? Now no one can carry you off,’ Song Qinghuan said with a smile, pinching Lin Shishi’s burning cheek.

‘Even if someone wanted to, they’d have to untie this knot or take the whole chair. But I don’t think anyone would be that bold in broad daylight, right?’

She paused, bent down, and whispered in Lin Shishi’s ear, ‘Remember… while I’m away, no matter who comes to chat you up or what they ask, don’t pay them any attention. Especially those pretty, mature older sisters—they’re the best at tricking innocent little cuties like you.’

Her tone was half warning, half teasing.

‘After all, they’re all bad women, just thinking about how to lure my baby away.’

With that, she straightened up, winked at Lin Shishi, and then finally turned and walked toward the nearby shoe store that looked quite nice.

Lin Shishi sat alone, biting her full lower lip, leaving a faint mark from her teeth.

She looked down at the glaring red on her ankle and muttered softly, ‘Really getting more and more domineering! Hmph!’

But since she had no shoes, she didn’t feel like moving anyway…

Besides… she could just be coquettish…

Lin Shishi shook her head helplessly, picked up her lemonade, and took a big gulp.

Soft jazz flowed through the café.

A few fashionably dressed girls passed by, laughing and chatting.

But when their eyes swept over Lin Shishi, they all stopped.

They first stared, focusing on the red ribbon around Lin Shishi’s ankle, her bare legs, and her delicate face.

Then they exchanged glances, their lips curling into ambiguous or curious smiles.

Just as Lin Shishi was so embarrassed she wished she could find a crack to crawl into, Song Qinghuan returned.

The girl’s eyes finally landed on Lin Shishi’s aggrieved, big eyes.

‘Here, try on the new sandals I bought for you,’ Song Qinghuan said, her voice still gentle but leaving no room for argument.

She took out a pair of silver-white strappy heeled sandals.

The design was extremely simple—just a few thin silver-white straps crisscrossing to show off the beauty of the foot to the maximum.

The heel was a slender silver metal stiletto, about six centimeters high.

Song Qinghuan held the heel of one of Lin Shishi’s feet, gently slipped on the sandal, adjusted the thin straps, and fastened the buckle.

The silver-white straps wrapped around the girl’s fair instep and ankle, intertwining with the remaining red ribbon marks and the original silver anklet bell, creating a complex and seductive visual impact.

‘You were such a good girl,’ Song Qinghuan said, satisfied, lifting her head to give Lin Shishi a truly gentle smile.

‘You didn’t say anything wrong, and you weren’t fooled by anyone’s sweet talk.’

She then bent down, her fingers deftly untying the bow on the chair crossbar, and freed the red ribbon from Lin Shishi’s ankle.

Once the ribbon was off, Lin Shishi could finally move her feet freely.

She immediately tucked them back under the chair, the toes of her new sandals lightly touching each other, her face still flushed.

Song Qinghuan coiled the red ribbon a few times and casually wrapped it around her own wrist.

Then she reached out and pinched Lin Shishi’s soft cheek.

Sure enough, with shoes on, the girl was happy again.

Accompanied by Song Qinghuan, they visited several more places.

Of course, while the girl was frolicking, Song Qinghuan also found a small grove and pulled her in for a round of cards.

After all… if they didn’t play cards for a day, the girl would start getting mischievous and want to rebel and become the master again.

After the card game, ‘Happy?’ Song Qinghuan smiled.

‘Mm… happy,’ Lin Shishi laughed through tears.

‘Then smile.’

‘Ha… ha…’ Lin Shishi’s smile was uglier than crying.

‘Not good—smile more happily.’

So Lin Shishi imitated one of Stephen Chow’s funny expressions, sticking her fingers into her mouth and pulling at the corners to make a forced smile.

That hilarious expression made Song Qinghuan burst into laughter.

Happy days really do pass quickly.

A day later, Song Qinghuan and Lin Shishi packed their simple luggage and boarded the high-speed train back to Yuhang City.
