Chapter 4: The Bell and the Blushing Kitten

“Let’s go, time to head out.”

Song Qinghuan snapped her fingers, then took Lin Shishi’s small, sweaty hand, a smile gracing her lips. The girl’s hand was soft and delicate, trembling slightly in her palm.

“Oh, that’s right, we’re still missing something.”

As if struck by a sudden thought, Song Qinghuan retrieved a small golden bell from her purse. Tied with a red velvet ribbon, the bell was exquisitely crafted, producing a clear, melodious chime when it swayed.

“This… what is this now?” Lin Shishi felt a surge of foreboding.

“Since you’re so adorable, you absolutely must wear this.”

Song Qinghuan chuckled, then, without allowing any protest, tied the bell around Lin Shishi’s pale, slender neck. The golden bell hung perfectly, resting between her delicate collarbones.

“This… isn’t this too embarrassing?”

Lin Shishi reached up to pull it off, but Song Qinghuan caught her wrist.

“What, are you daring to defy your master’s command?”

Song Qinghuan feigned seriousness, then burst into laughter. “Look, you’re just like a little kitten with a bell!”

With a mischievous glint in her eyes, Song Qinghuan playfully flicked the bell with her finger.

*Ding-a-ling—*

The crisp sound echoed with striking clarity in the dorm room.

Given that Song Qinghuan had once again deployed her ultimate move—’You wouldn’t want your secrets to be known, would you?’—Lin Shishi’s protest was, predictably, thwarted once more.

It had to be said, this tactic was rather ruthless. It seemed the beautiful girl was destined to be firmly under Song Qinghuan’s thumb for the foreseeable future.

Thus, Lin Shishi, adorned with the tiny bell, was led out of the dorm room by Song Qinghuan.

Just as they descended the stairs, the two girls encountered Tang Wan’er, a classmate, in the dormitory hallway.

Tang Wan’er was a lively and cheerful girl. Her eyes immediately lit up as she spotted Lin Shishi, who was dressed in a strikingly different manner.

“Oh? Shishi?”

Tang Wan’er approached with a gasp of surprise, her gaze sweeping over Lin Shishi’s unusually provocative uniform and the bell around her neck. A teasing smile spread across her face.

“Wow! Why are you dressed so… cute today? So sexy, so alluring!”

Lin Shishi instantly wished for a hole to swallow her whole. She covered her face with her free hand, mortified, the bell tinkling softly with her movement.

Song Qinghuan, however, squeezed her palm firmly and whispered, “Hey, she’s saying hello to you. Be a good girl and smile… Come on, just a little smile.”

Lin Shishi nodded, a muffled sound escaping her, but she couldn’t manage to force a proper smile onto her lips.

“If you keep this up, Big Sister might get upset, you know,” Song Qinghuan’s voice was exceedingly gentle. But only Lin Shishi knew the wicked amusement hidden beneath that tender tone.

Under pressure, Lin Shishi reluctantly lowered her hand and painstakingly squeezed out a smile. It was stiff and forced, her eyes still glistening with unshed tears, making it look more like she was on the verge of crying.

Yet, paired with her current attire and flushed face, it created a strange, captivating allure that evoked pity.

Tang Wan’er’s gaze flickered between the two, and she seemed to grasp something, her smile deepening. She stepped forward, extended a finger, and gently tapped the small bell on Lin Shishi’s neck.

*Ding-a-ling—*

The clear chime echoed in the hallway.

“Have fun, Shishi,” Tang Wan’er winked, her tone suggestive. “Hehehe, you’re just too cute.”

With a cheerful laugh, Tang Wan’er turned, walking backward as she continued to gaze at them. Suddenly, a dull thud sounded.

Immediately followed by Tang Wan’er’s yelp of pain: “Ouch!”

She had collided squarely with the dormitory doorframe. This unexpected, comical scene momentarily stunned the already nervous and embarrassed Lin Shishi, who then couldn’t help but let out a soft giggle.

Though the girl instantly covered her mouth again, that fleeting, spontaneous smile was exceptionally clear and vibrant. Song Qinghuan also laughed.

Then, her eyes widened, fixed intently on Lin Shishi. She reached out, tilting Lin Shishi’s chin to make her look up. “See, my little darling, how beautiful you are when you smile? That expression just now, like you were crying when you smiled. This is so much better.”

Lin Shishi’s face flushed crimson again, overwhelmed by Song Qinghuan’s direct gaze and words. Her natural smile vanished instantly, replaced by the panicked shyness of a small animal, her hands covering her burning cheeks.

As a girl with an inherent introverted and secretly passionate nature, being forced by the ‘Big Sister’ she secretly admired to wear such a mortifying outfit and a highly symbolic bell in public caused a sense of shame that threatened to drown her. Yet, beneath this overwhelming humiliation, a strange, intense sensation surged through her veins, coursing through her limbs like an electric current. This feeling both frightened her and filled her with a subtle anticipation. She even… eagerly longed for Song Qinghuan to ‘bully’ her even more, just as she had written in her diary. But the thought was too shameful; she bit her lower lip fiercely, daring not to reveal even a hint of it.

“Alright, let’s go to the cafeteria and eat together.”

As if seeing through her inner turmoil, Song Qinghuan contentedly linked her arm through Lin Shishi’s. The two, one tall and the other short, one bright and assertive, the other petite and timid, presented a striking contrast.

Song Qinghuan wore a flowing, sky-blue silk dress today, impeccably tailored to showcase her tall, graceful, and curvaceous figure. Silver high heels completed the look, exuding an aura of commanding presence. In contrast, Lin Shishi’s petite frame and her charmingly seductive outfit made her even more eye-catching.

The girls entered the cafeteria. At this hour, it wasn’t particularly crowded, but their unique pairing still drew numerous glances.

“What do you want to eat?”

Song Qinghuan released her hand, looking at the uneasy Lin Shishi. “Alright, I won’t torment you any further for now. Go get your food; we’ll each get our own. Remember to find me here to eat together afterward. No sneaking off alone, understood?”

She pointed to a window-side table. Lin Shishi, as if granted a great pardon, nodded vigorously and scurried toward the food counter as if escaping. She ordered the simplest, most modest breakfast: a fried dough stick, a tea egg, and a small bowl of plain congee. This was her usual, budget-friendly choice.

Song Qinghuan, meanwhile, headed to another counter, ordering a piece of toast, a glass of milk, a fried egg, and a slice of cream cake. Her meal was refined and exquisite, perfectly reflecting her elegant demeanor and background. Song Qinghuan hailed from one of Yu Port City’s most powerful families; her ‘father’ (the husband in a female couple) Song Siyu, was the city’s mayor.

Lin Shishi’s background, in comparison, was far bleaker. She grew up in a single-parent home; her ‘father’ had abandoned his wife and daughter years ago, leaving her mother to raise her with a meager income. This upbringing in a single-parent family had fostered an introverted and reclusive personality from a young age, causing her to tightly guard her true self. All her emotions and desires were only dared to be expressed secretly in her diary late at night.

Song Qinghuan, despite only being her roommate for two months, had keenly sensed this. As for Song Qinghuan herself, on the surface, she was a sunny, outgoing, and well-liked rich heiress, yet almost no one knew of the intense desire for control and dominance lurking deep within her. That was until she accidentally discovered Lin Shishi’s diary, filled with secret longings…

An older girl with an overwhelming need for control, meeting a quirky young girl who harbored a little devil inside—this was a match made in heaven, an ultimate combination.

The two girls sat opposite each other by the window. Song Qinghuan cut a small piece of cake from her tray and offered it to Lin Shishi with a fork. “Try this; it’s much tastier than your dry fried dough stick.”

Lin Shishi hesitated but then opened her mouth, accepting the offered bite. The sweet, creamy texture of the cake melted on her tongue.

Song Qinghuan smiled, then suddenly reached out, her fingertips gently flicking the small golden bell. *”Ding-a-ling—ding-a-ling-a-ling—”*

The clear, melodious chime resonated exceptionally well in the bustling breakfast cafeteria. The surrounding girls, who were eating, turned their heads in unison. Their gazes held curiosity, surprise, amusement, and undisguised scrutiny.

Lin Shishi let out a soft gasp. Her face instantly turned beet red, like a cooked shrimp, and she instinctively moved to stand up and flee.

Song Qinghuan, however, had anticipated this. Under the table, she clamped the girl’s legs between her own beautiful ones. Simultaneously, she pressed down on Lin Shishi’s arm; the force wasn’t great, but it carried an undeniable sense of command.

“Where do you think you’re going, little Shishi?” Song Qinghuan’s voice was low and laced with a smile, yet her eyes were sharp. “Remember, we’re having breakfast.”

“But… it’s so embarrassing!” Lin Shishi’s voice was tearful, her head bowed so low it almost disappeared into her bowl of congee.

“What’s there to be embarrassed about?” Song Qinghuan dismissed it, instead raising her voice slightly, as if deliberately speaking for those around them to hear. “Look at you, how adorable! Like a delicate little doll. See, they’re looking at you, admiring your cuteness.”

“Rea… really?” Lin Shishi timidly lifted her eyes, quickly glanced around, then immediately shrank back. “But I feel… they seem to be laughing at me.”

“Nonsense!” Song Qinghuan swept her gaze around the room.

The surrounding girls were indeed whispering, but their conversations weren’t entirely mocking. Many were captivated by Lin Shishi’s exquisite features and alluring attire, their eyes filled with admiration and curiosity. Of course, some were also surprised by their intimacy, which clearly surpassed ordinary friendship, and were murmuring to each other.

Soon, fragments of conversation drifted into Song Qinghuan’s ears, and also pierced Lin Shishi’s sensitive hearing:

“Look at those two over there… the atmosphere is so strange.”

“Yeah, one looks like a young mistress, and the other… a little maid? She even has a bell on!”

“But dressing like that to the cafeteria, it takes a lot of courage…”

“The shorter girl’s face is so red, so cute…”

“The taller one is the truly beautiful one, both gorgeous and formidable. You can tell she’s not to be trifled with.”

Lin Shishi heard every word, each one like a red-hot needle pricking her sensitive nerves. Her heart pounded wildly; she almost wanted to break free from Song Qinghuan’s grasp and flee.

But Song Qinghuan deliberately held her tighter. At the same time, she looked up, smiling at the direction of the whispers. Her smile was bright and generous, carrying an undeniable confidence, as if to say, ‘This is just how we are. Is there a problem?’

This open attitude, ironically, made some of the gossips look away awkwardly. Song Qinghuan then turned back, glaring at Lin Shishi, her eyes conveying a clear ‘Don’t move’ message.

Fortunately, breakfast eventually came to an end. When the last bite of food was swallowed, Song Qinghuan elegantly wiped her lips and stood up. “Let’s go.”

Lin Shishi sprang up as if granted a reprieve, hastily tidying her tray, her head bowed low, following closely behind Song Qinghuan as they escaped the cafeteria. As soon as they stepped out of the cafeteria doors and onto the relatively deserted tree-lined path, Lin Shishi immediately leaned against a tree, gasping for breath. The girl’s chest heaved violently, the blush on her cheeks refusing to fade. Song Qinghuan stood calmly by her side, then reached out, intimately wiping away a tear that had yet to fall from the corner of her eye.

“What’s the big deal?” Song Qinghuan’s tone was light, tinged with a nonchalant fondness. “You’ll get used to it, you know.”
