Chapter 58: Homecoming and Debts

Lin Mo felt a warm glow in her heart at the words, and she didn’t refuse anymore, smiling.

“In that case, even better. Tomorrow I’ll go home and cook a delicious meal for you all!”

“Oh, that’s such a treat for me! Thank you, Auntie!” Song Qinghuan’s eyes curved into crescents with laughter.

The next morning, discharge procedures were swiftly handled with Song Qinghuan’s help.

Song Qinghuan hailed a spacious taxi from the hospital entrance, stuffing all the gifts, supplements, and Lin Mo’s personal belongings collected during the hospital stay into the trunk and back seats.

Then she helped Lin Mo into the back seat, sitting on one side while Lin Shishi sat on the other, like two attentive guards flanking her.

The car drove out of the city, heading toward the suburbs.

About half an hour later, the taxi slowed down at the entrance of a beautiful small town.

This town was called Mei Town, named after the large expanses of plum trees planted in the town and on the surrounding hills.

Every year at the turn of winter and spring, the plum blossoms bloom, their subtle fragrance drifting through the air—a quaint little scenic spot near Yugang.

But now it was late summer and early autumn, so there were no plum blossoms to be seen, only lush trees and slightly worn but clean streets.

The taxi finally stopped in front of a somewhat dilapidated two-story building.

The walls were mottled, the stairway narrow, but the entrance was swept clean.

This was the home where Lin Mo and Lin Shishi, mother and daughter, had lived for many years.

In the small yard in front, several rose bushes were in full bloom, their colors vibrant.

Lin Mo took out the key and opened the door, stepping aside to let the two girls in.

The interior was neatly arranged, the furniture simple but spotless, and the air carried a faint, warm scent of bedding dried in the sun.

“Qinghuan, you two watch some TV and rest in the living room. I’ll go to the market to buy some groceries, and we’ll have a nice lunch,” Lin Mo said with a smile, casually leaning her cane against the wall.

Her leg injury was mostly healed, but she needed the cane for short-term mobility.

“Mom, I’ll go with you!”

“No need, it’s just a few steps—I’m not an old lady yet,” Lin Mo chuckled.

Lin Shishi’s cheeks flushed slightly, her eyes darting away.

Truth be told, ever since coming back from the hospital, the wetness stirred up by Song Qinghuan in the young girl’s body hadn’t subsided; on the contrary, it had become more evident due to nervousness.

This was the constitution of the Water Fairy…

Always inconveniently…

Lin Shishi was afraid she’d be bullied by the bad dog owner again—

And then it would turn from a light drizzle into a torrential downpour.

But Song Qinghuan reached out and gently hooked her arm around Lin Shishi’s slender wrist, pulling her back to her side.

Her fingers naturally interlocked with Lin Shishi’s, her grip tender yet inescapable.

“Let Auntie go alone. Just be careful on the road, that’s fine.”

Song Qinghuan smiled, her eyes curving into crescents. “Shishi, you stay with me. Show me around your home. I want to know more about the place where you… grew up.”

Lin Shishi’s ears flushed red, the color spreading to her neck.

The way she said “know more about” was laden with ambiguity.

Lin Mo looked at the two girls huddled together, her daughter shrinking shyly, and Song Qinghuan’s composed yet possessive demeanor. A hint of understanding flickered in her eyes.

A subtle smile curved at the corner of her mouth.

“That works.”

Lin Mo nodded, her tone light. “Then just wander around the house, the yard, the rooms—whatever. I’ll buy more good food; it might take a while.”

She deliberately emphasized “take a while,” letting her gaze linger on Song Qinghuan’s face for a moment.

With that, Lin Mo picked up her shopping basket, leaned on her cane, and stepped out of the house, even thoughtfully closing the door behind her.

Hearing her mother’s footsteps fade away, Lin Shishi’s heartbeat thundered as if it might leap out of her chest.

Before she could say anything, an irresistible force pushed her backward, and her back sank into the slightly rough but soft fabric of the old sofa.

“M-Master…”

Lin Shishi whimpered, her hands weakly pressing against Song Qinghuan’s chest as she leaned in.

Song Qinghuan’s full, round curves pressed against her palms, warm and springy.

“What’s wrong?”

Song Qinghuan bent down, her hands braced on the armrests on either side of Lin Shishi’s body, trapping her completely in her shadow.

She looked down at the girl beneath her, her gaze burning.

It roamed from the girl’s slightly parted, tender lips in panic, to the rapid rise and fall of her chest tightly wrapped by a dress, to her slender waist, and finally to her snow-white thighs.

“Before Auntie comes back, I naturally have to properly collect the medical fees, you know.”

“But—didn’t I already pay in the hospital?”

“Ha, that was just the principal. Today is the interest,” the bad dog owner laughed loudly.

“Squeak—let go, you tyrannical dog owner!” the girl protested.

“Pfft haha—”

“Ah… Mom will be back soon…”

The girl’s twin tails splayed across the sofa backrest, a few strands of hair sticking to her flushed cheeks.

“Don’t worry.”

Song Qinghuan chuckled softly, lowering her head until her nose almost touched Lin Shishi’s, their breaths mingling.

“Auntie is smart enough to have already set aside time for us. Can’t you tell?”

Squeak…

The girl…

Was paying her debts again…

……

Outside the window, a gentle breeze blew, causing the rose branches in the yard to sway softly, tapping against the walls and window frames with faint pattering sounds.

Song Qinghuan let out a breath, cradling the now limp Lin Shishi in her arms, her fingers lovingly combing through the damp hair at her temples.

“Tsk, my Water Fairy—”

Song Qinghuan teasingly tapped Lin Shishi’s reddened little nose.

“Ugh—you big villain. I’m going to wash the sofa cushion—Mom will scold me when she sees it,” Lin Shishi said, fidgeting with her fingers.

“Good thing I came prepared.”

She carefully moved Lin Shishi aside.

Then she pulled a folded, soft waterproof pad from her small bag.

She spread the pad over the sofa, pressed it down, and quickly absorbed the surface liquid.

After that, she carefully rolled up the waterproof pad and set it aside.

The sofa returned to its dry, tidy state.

Except for the faint sweet scent in the air, there was almost no trace.

Song Qinghuan helped Lin Shishi adjust her skirt and pulled down her rolled-up top.

She also meticulously put the girl’s white socks back on her slightly reddened little feet.

Only after all this did she pull Lin Shishi back into her arms.

“Well? My pretty little cutie, isn’t your hubby clever?”

Lin Shishi’s whole body was limp, lacking even the strength to lift her hand, so she could only give a soft “hmph” through her nose.

It carried a lazy aftertaste of repayment and a hint of resentment from being “bullied” too hard.

“Oh?”

Song Qinghuan raised an eyebrow, pinching the girl’s delicate chin and forcing her face up.

“Is my little cutie rebelling? How dare you hmph at me?”

“I… wouldn’t dare…”

Lin Shishi immediately softened her tone, her eyes shimmering with moisture, casting a coquettish glare at her.
