Join the ServerThese words made Lin Mo’s eyes widen in surprise.
She looked at Lin Shishi as if seeing her own daughter—timid, introverted—for the very first time.
After a long moment, a smile of relief and pride bloomed on her face. She reached out to stroke Lin Shishi’s cheek, her voice choked with emotion.
“I never thought… my little Shishi could have such ambition. Mom… I’m so happy for you.”
Mother and daughter smiled at each other, then hugged tightly.
Just then, a soft knock came at the door, and Song Qinghuan pushed it open.
A perfectly measured smile graced her lips. “Auntie, Shishi, sorry to interrupt. I just made a call—my dad, Mayor Song Siyu, happened to be nearby. He heard you were in the hospital and wanted to come by. He’s outside now. Principal Zhang Shulan is with him too.”
“Your dad? Mayor Song Siyu? Principal Zhang Shulan?”
Lin Mo was taken aback. Clearly, she was reevaluating Song Qinghuan’s status.
She quickly sat up straighter, instinctively smoothing her hair and hospital gown.
“Why are they all here? This… this is too much.”
Song Qinghuan smiled and glanced to the side before lowering her voice. “Actually—Shishi’s relationship with the Queen isn’t exactly a secret anymore. My dad has been keeping an eye on it. When he heard you were hospitalized, he insisted on visiting personally. And Principal Zhang, as Shishi’s school leader, naturally cares a lot. They just want to show their concern. Just relax, Auntie.”
Lin Mo finally understood, a flood of emotions washing over her.
“Alright… I’m really troubling them. And thank you, Qinghuan. Please ask them in.”
Song Qinghuan called out to the door, “Dad, Principal Zhang, Auntie says come in.”
The door swung fully open, and two distinguished women entered.
The first was Song Siyu.
She wore a light gray suit skirt that fell to her knees, hugging her well-proportioned figure. Her smile was warm yet dignified.
But when she saw Song Qinghuan, she rolled her eyes. “How many times have I told you? Use my title in formal settings!”
“Yes, Song Title—” Song Qinghuan flashed a sly grin.
Song Siyu: “…”
She shot her daughter a look that said, “Itching for a spanking?”
Following behind was Zhang Shulan.
She carried gifts, her smile gentle and proper.
The presence of these two women seemed to brighten the otherwise simple ward.
Song Siyu quickly approached the bed, naturally reaching out to take Lin Mo’s hand. Her tone was sincere and concerned. “Ms. Lin, hello. I’m Song Siyu. As soon as I heard you were injured and hospitalized, I came to check on you. How are you feeling now? Is the injury serious? If you have any difficulties, please tell me.”
Somewhat flattered, Lin Mo hurriedly replied, “Mayor Song, you’re too kind. It’s just a minor injury. I feel terrible for troubling you when you’re so busy.”
“Please don’t say that,” Song Siyu said, her smile broadening. She patted Lin Mo’s hand gently and lowered her voice. “Not to mention the connection through Her Majesty, even just for our two kids—Qinghuan and Shishi—it’s only right that I come. We elders are happy to see how things are between them.”
Her gaze fell warmly on Song Qinghuan and Lin Shishi, who stood side by side.
Lin Mo paused, then caught on, and couldn’t help but smile. “It seems I’m the only one who’s been kept in the dark.”
At that moment, Song Qinghuan naturally reached out and wrapped an arm around Lin Shishi’s slender waist, pulling her closer.
Lin Shishi blushed but didn’t pull away.
Seeing this, Song Siyu’s smile deepened. She said to Lin Mo, “So, Ms. Lin, we’ll be in-laws in the future. I’m taking the liberty to call you co-mother-in-law now. From now on, we’re family. Don’t be a stranger.”
She then turned and gestured. The woman at the door, who looked like a secretary, immediately stepped forward, placing nourishing supplements and a fruit basket on the table by the bed, nearly covering half the surface.
Zhang Shulan also stepped forward, setting down her gifts and smiling at Lin Mo. “Ms. Lin, on behalf of Rain Harbor University, I’d like to express our condolences. Student Lin Shishi has always performed excellently at school. You’ve raised a wonderful daughter. Please accept this small token, and I wish you a speedy recovery.”
Lin Mo quickly thanked her. “Principal Zhang, you’re too kind. Thank the school for its care and concern for Shishi. I’ve caused you trouble.”
“Not at all, it’s our duty,” Zhang Shulan replied with a smile. Her gaze inadvertently swept over Lin Shishi, lingering for a moment on her outfit and flushed cheeks.
Song Siyu and Zhang Shulan stayed to chat with Lin Mo for a while, inquiring about her injuries and treatment, offering comfort and encouragement.
But seeing that Lin Mo looked a bit tired, they considerately took their leave, advising her to rest well, not to worry about expenses or trivial matters, and to contact them for anything.
Not long after they left, several female colleagues from Lin Mo’s workplace came to visit together.
These colleagues, who were usually neither warm nor close to Lin Mo—some even distant—were exceptionally enthusiastic today, caring and concerned, bringing plenty of gifts. Their respectful attitude left Lin Mo at a loss.
After they departed, the ward finally quieted down.
Lin Mo looked at the pile of gifts beside her bed and muttered to herself in confusion.
“How strange… normally they’re not this close to me, and my supervisor especially… why are they all so warm today?”
Song Qinghuan chuckled while tidying the gifts. “Probably because Mayor Song came to see you in person. News travels fast, so they know what to do.”
Lin Mo turned to Song Qinghuan. Once again, she was struck by the girl’s maturity, insight, and social savvy—far beyond what a young woman her age should possess.
She couldn’t help but exclaim, “Shishi is truly lucky to have someone like you. You’re beautiful, smart, free-spirited, and know how to take care of others…”
Song Qinghuan walked over and affectionately hugged Lin Mo’s arm, acting coy like a daughter to her mother. “Auntie, don’t flatter me. I’m the lucky one to have such an adorable, cute princess like Shishi. She’s my treasure.”
“Shh—!”
Lin Mo and Lin Shishi simultaneously raised their index fingers to their lips, signaling silence.
After all, there was still another patient in the room, even if she was sound asleep.
Amused by their reaction, Song Qinghuan chuckled and lowered her voice.
“I’m talking about my little princess in my heart. I’ll raise her as the cutest little princess, my little pet, and hold her in the palm of my hand.”
When she said “little pet,” her tone turned ambiguous, and she shot a glance at Lin Shishi, who instantly blushed and looked down.
Lin Mo watched their interaction, understanding everything clearly.
She smiled, half-curious, half-teasing, and asked Song Qinghuan in a low voice.
“Little pet? Usually… how do you two ‘play’? You don’t actually put weird things on her and take her out… to play some naughty games?”
As a mother, that was quite direct and open-minded.
Song Qinghuan burst out laughing and waved her hand.
“Auntie, where’s your mind going? We’re pretty vanilla—just ordinary couple’s sweet games.”
She paused, glanced at Lin Shishi, whose face was about to explode, and added wickedly.
“Of course, if our Shishi is willing one day and asks for something more exciting… then I, as her master, will naturally satisfy her.”
“You two!!! That’s too much!!!”
Lin Shishi, mortified, covered her face and stomped her foot before taking the chance to run into the bathroom.
