“How can he be so shamelessly self-righteous?!”
Jiang Shulan puffed up with anger and lifted his head.
The man seemed to have anticipated the movement and tilted his face at just the right angle.
Jiang Shulan’s lips brushed against the corner of the man’s mouth.
The man let out a low laugh.
Beneath his thick lashes, his eyes remained fixed on Jiang Shulan.
Those deep, gloomy emerald-green pupils seemed to swallow him whole.
In a hoarse, rough voice, he murmured, “Good boy.”
The weather was far too hot.
Everyone was covered in sweat.
The man, in particular, seemed to enjoy going around bare-chested.
A thin sheen of sweat coated his shoulders, back, and chest.
The lines of his muscles were sleek and taut.
His pectorals were strikingly attractive.
A narrow waist.
The muscles beside his hips cut diagonally into the waistband of his pants.
Sweat rolled down from his jawline, tracing over his Adam’s apple, collarbones, and sternum, flowing along the grooves of his abs before finally disappearing beneath the fabric of his waistband.
With the current atmosphere, plus that ambiguous remark from the man, it looked exactly like the aftermath of something scandalous.
“You bastard!”
Jiang Shulan had stopped slapping people across the face.
Now he threw things instead.
He grabbed the palm-leaf pillow beside him and hurled it over.
The man didn’t get angry.
Instead, he rubbed his lips with his thumb in a thoroughly suggestive manner.
“Delicious.”
Jiang Shulan slammed the window shut with enough force that he wished he could have crushed the man’s nose off on the spot.
[System! Have you people been doing something illegal in violation of labor laws?!]
The system was baffled.
[What?]
[Why do I always feel like…]
He always felt that the degree of pathological madness these people exhibited was strangely similar!
And every world had one!
Could they possibly be following him from world to world?!
He was going to break down!
Hopefully, he was just overthinking it.
Dragged awake only to be ignored, the system sneered.
[Jiang Shulan, I’ve discovered that you really care less and less about me.]
Back when he needed the system’s help, Jiang Shulan would sweetly beg it.
He would even smile at it with that soft, adorable expression.
But now?!
[You hate me now, don’t you?]
Jiang Shulan’s eyes instantly turned red.
He snapped back angrily.
[I don’t want to talk to you ever again!]
After working long enough, who doesn’t go crazy?
[I’m sorry. I was wrong.]
The system apologized immediately, without hesitation.
[My attitude was bad. I expected too much. I was the one thinking incorrectly. I failed to understand the situation properly. Please don’t be angry, okay?]
[Whatever you want, I’ll give it to you.]
Jiang Shulan’s eyes were red.
His wet lashes clumped together.
The tip of his nose was tinged pink.
He sniffled once.
Then again.
[Really? You’ll give me whatever I want? Then I want to be resurrected immediately!]
[…Anything except that.]
It still wasn’t willing to let Jiang Shulan leave.
The system coaxed him in a humble tone for a long time.
After agreeing to a whole list of demands, it finally managed to stop him from crying.
Jiang Shulan cried himself tired and lay down on the bed to sleep.
It was a little hot.
The moment he pouted in discomfort, the room instantly became much cooler.
In the evening, Terry called him out for dinner.
At the same time, they discussed what he needed to pay attention to during tomorrow’s filming.
Jiang Shulan deliberately sat as far away from Hyman as possible.
Holding tomorrow’s script in his hands, he dipped his pale, slender legs into the river and played with the water.
“This time, we’re searching for the legendary Xixia Ma Tribe. They worship giant serpents and regard them as gods. The place protected by these giant serpents is called the ‘Mystic Lake.’ And hidden within the lake is a method that can transform ordinary snakes into giant serpents…”
He read through the script several times.
Then he closed his eyes and started reciting from memory.
The cool water around his calves felt wonderfully comfortable.
A few minutes later, he felt something like a mosquito bite.
He subconsciously lifted his leg.
Then suddenly, a long, slippery object slithered up his calf.
“AHHHHHHH!”
Jiang Shulan screamed in terror.
A pair of rough, broad hands reached into his pants and yanked the snake out.
A large hand stroked down from the back of his neck in reassurance.
“It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s just a small snake.”
He was so frightened that tears streamed down his face.
“Why is there a snake?!”
“Sweetheart, this is the Amazon. There are more snakes here than there are people like you.”
Hyman held him with one arm.
“Maybe it’s because it saw someone as dazzlingly white as you for the first time and wanted to say hello.”
“Say hello?”
Jiang Shulan felt a little aggrieved.
Then he remembered that Hyman had just saved him.
So he lightly slapped Hyman on the face.
“Just like you. A big pervert.”
“Still angry?”
The corners of Hyman’s lips curved upward.
“I’ll show you something fun. Will you forgive me then?”
Jiang Shulan became curious.
“Something fun?”
Hyman simply held him and crouched down before standing back up again.
He didn’t seem to struggle in the slightest.
Then Hyman threw something into the river.
A massive splash erupted instantly.
Jiang Shulan wiped the water from his face.
“Hyman!”
“Shh-”
Hyman pressed a long finger against his lips.
Those wild eyes of his resembled a beast hunting in the darkness.
Cold.
Silent.
Focused.
“Keep your voice down, sweetheart.”
At some point, all the sounds of insects around them had disappeared.
Everything fell into dead silence.
Then, within the darkness, countless red lights slowly emerged.
Dense.
Endless.
Enough to make anyone’s scalp crawl.
“Well?”
Hyman’s lips brushed against his ear.
He gently caught the tip of his ear between his lips and spoke indistinctly.
“Don’t they look like fireflies?”
“Get lost!”
Hyman’s head tilted back slightly from the elbow strike.
His Adam’s apple bobbed.
Then laughter rumbled up from deep in his throat.
“Baby, you’re so cute. I’m having a hard time holding back.”
Jiang Shulan considered himself a veteran of these situations by now.
He bared his teeth viciously.
“If you can’t hold back, then cut it off.”
Hyman shook his head.
“That won’t do.”
“Where’s the bracelet I gave you?”
Jiang Shulan looked up at the sky.
“Oh wow. The stars are really pretty tonight.”
“That bracelet keeps snakes from approaching you.”
“You have another one?”
“Of course.”
Amusement appeared in Hyman’s eyes.
“Scumbag!”
Hyman defended himself.
“I made a lot of them. But they were all prepared for you.”
“Get out!”
The two of them continued bickering for a while.
After confirming that Jiang Shulan had truly forgotten about the snake scare, Hyman escorted him back to his room.
Leaning one hand against the doorframe, Hyman asked, “Can I have a goodnight kiss?”
Jiang Shulan pushed him away.
“Keep dreaming.”
“What?”
“You agreed?”
A wicked grin spread across Hyman’s face.
“Then I won’t hold back.”
The man grabbed Jiang Shulan’s face with one hand.
…Just like the man himself, utterly uninvited.
The sharp canine tooth sent a strange, intensely stimulating pain shooting through his nerves.
Only when his breathing grew ragged did Jiang Shulan realize that Hyman actually had fangs.
They kissed in the doorway.
There was nothing behind him to lean against.
Jiang Shulan’s legs went weak from the kiss.
Standing became difficult.
Hyman simply wrapped an arm around his waist and lifted him onto his arm.
Their lips never separated.
How was he so strong?
Beneath Jiang Shulan’s palm were Hyman’s muscles, swollen with exertion.
They were nearly as large as his fist.
His mind had gone completely blank from the kiss.
His damp lashes clung together.
He could only helplessly…
In his dazed state, Jiang Shulan thought to himself,
‘Absolutely no “hugging” Hyman in this world. I’ll literally die.’
Hyman finally got the goodnight “kiss” he wanted.
Satisfied, he gently wiped away the moisture at Jiang Shulan’s chin.
“Sweet dreams, sweetheart. I hope I’m in your dreams too.”
He placed Jiang Shulan onto the bed.
Then he lowered his head and stared at Jiang Shulan for a long while.
After all, the poor thing had nearly cried himself dehydrated and suffocated from a single kiss.
Only then did Hyman leave the room.
The surroundings remained utterly silent.
The crocodiles, having completed their task, had long since hidden themselves far away.
Hyman tossed the clothes he had taken from Jiang Shulan’s room into the river.
He crouched by the boat and watched the clothing drift on the water’s surface.
Then he chuckled quietly.
“Hang in there, brother. He’s still too young. He needs more time…”
The calm river surface suddenly exploded with enormous waves.
When the water finally settled again, the clothes had already vanished without a trace.
