Chapter 40: The Anaconda Disaster – Being Captured by a Giant Python

Jiang Shulan’s vision spun.

Caught completely off guard, he met those golden, slit pupils.

His heart seized.

The reaction made the man behind him draw in a sharp breath.

“Shu! Mate! Where are you?!”

Danny had come back to look for them.

Danny didn’t know there was a giant python here.

What should he do?

Tears welled up in Jiang Shulan’s eyes.

But the giant python merely “looked” at him quietly.

Then, with a flick of its tail, it disappeared without a trace.

The river’s surface quickly returned to calm.

There was no evidence left behind that anything had visited at all.

Danny’s voice drew closer and closer.

“Tch.”

The insatiable siren clicked his tongue in annoyance at being interrupted.

Even so, he finally withdrew his fingers.

Jiang Shulan immediately went limp and collapsed into his arms.

His tearful eyes glared fiercely.

Or at least, they tried to.

He was small.

Soft.

Far softer on the inside than he looked.

It was difficult not to feel affection for him.

Hyman lowered his gaze tenderly.

He kissed Jiang Shulan’s eyelashes.

His nose.

His lips.

Everything tasted faintly of tears and salt.

On the way back, Jiang Shulan had only just recovered a little strength when he stubbornly tried to climb out of Hyman’s arms.

Was he even human?

Hadn’t it already happened?

Then why was he still…

Jiang Shulan was genuinely worried that before Hyman even carried him back to the boat, things would get even worse.

He forced himself to walk.

Then he stepped on something slippery.

Before he could react, he fell backward into the river.

It felt as though he had sat down on a seesaw.

His legs dangled on either side.

Before he could process why the ground beneath him felt so soft, the “ground” suddenly began to move.

The immense friction only made the pain he’d already been enduring far worse.

By the time Hyman pulled him back out of the river, he was crying so hard he could barely breathe.

Being bullied by a man was one thing.

But why was the giant python bullying him too?

Did he really look that easy to bully?

Jiang Shulan cried so hard he nearly passed out.

Hyman supported him with one arm and lifted him slightly, the way one might soothe a child.

Their chests pressed tightly together.

Then Hyman carried him back onto the boat.

Jiang Shulan wrapped both arms around Hyman’s neck and buried his face in his chest.

He didn’t want to lift his head.

He’d cried too hard.

If he looked up, everyone would know.

And if they asked questions…

Thinking about what had just happened only made him cry harder.

A visible pool of tears quickly formed in the hollow of Hyman’s neck.

Faced with everyone’s confused looks, Hyman patiently explained,

“His pants got wet. He’s a little embarrassed.”

Danny looked baffled.

“But all of our pants are wet. Our clothes too. What’s there to be embarrassed about?”

Jiang Shulan, one of the few people who understood the hidden meaning, immediately tightened his grip around Hyman’s neck.

He genuinely wanted to strangle him to death.

“There’s a giant python here. A really huge one. It’s about the size of that boat.”

He swallowed back a sob and warned,

“Terry, we should leave. Immediately.”

“A giant python?”

Kyle looked skeptical.

“The size of that boat? Are you joking?”

As an anthropologist, he had studied thousands of records.

No snake that large existed in reality.

“Could you have imagined it?”

Jiang Shulan no longer had the strength to argue.

He lightly kicked Hyman with his foot.

He’d explain after he recovered.

The python had already left.

Still smiling, Hyman carried him into his room.

After gently placing him onto the soft bedding, he asked,

“Does anything hurt?”

He had only used his fingers.

They hadn’t even gotten to the “hugging” stage yet.

How had he ended up crying this hard?

Jiang Shulan pouted and buried his face in the pillow.

He felt as though he could flood the entire room with tears.

“It already hurt… And then I fell… Now it hurts so much… Wuuuu…”

Hyman opened a drawer and took out a jar of ointment.

“I’ll apply some.”

“No!”

Did Hyman think he hadn’t noticed that tent?

It had already been obvious before.

Now that everything was soaked, it was practically the same as wearing nothing at all.

He could see everything.

Jiang Shulan officially and unilaterally revoked Hyman’s status as a human being.

He was now categorized alongside animals in breeding season.

“No.”

He was still crying.

His brain felt dizzy from lack of oxygen.

“I hate you!”

“Mhm.”

“You hate me. You hate me.”

Hyman comforted him with practiced ease while simultaneously tugging down his loose pants.

On the softest, palest skin imaginable, faint impressions resembling scales could almost be seen.

He must have landed very hard when he fell.

Then again…

His older brother really had entered breeding season.

Even his scales had become this hard.

Meanwhile, Mate still hadn’t returned.

The people sent to find him hadn’t found so much as a shadow.

“He’s dead.” The giant python killed him.”

Salang suddenly spoke.

“You’ve already entered the territory of the Xixia Ma Tribe.”

“What? That legend was actually real?”

Some people’s priorities were clearly misplaced.

Terry immediately regained her composure.

“Pythons don’t kill people.”

“No. They do.”

Salang pulled out a massive snake skin from the wooden crate beneath him.

“They’ll wrap around you. They’ll embrace you tighter than your lover ever could. Until your bones can’t withstand the pressure and shatter.”

“Then we’re leaving.”

Terry made her decision immediately.

“If it’s this dangerous, we’re turning back. Right now. Immediately.”

Everyone began following Terry’s orders.

Bang!

Salang blew the smoke from the barrel of his hunting rifle and aimed it at Terry.

“I’ve spent the last few days punching holes in the fuel drums. There’s probably only enough fuel left for one tank. I’m the only one who knows the way. If you don’t listen to me, you’ll all die.”

Kyle raised his hands.

“What do you want?”

“Nothing much.”

Salang sneered.

“I just want to catch a giant python and make a little money.”

Danny looked confused.

“Then why didn’t you ask Hyman for help?”

“Because I don’t have what he likes.”

Salang’s tone became oddly admiring.

“And besides. Aren’t giant pythons fascinating?”

“You psycho!”

Danny cursed.

“Thank you.”

Salang kicked a bundle of rope toward Gary.

“Tie them up.”

“No, Gary.”

Kyle, Danny, and Warren exchanged glances.

Just as they were about to rush him, several bullets struck the deck at their feet.

“There isn’t much food left. I don’t mind killing a few people to lighten the burden.”

Salang was ruthless and efficient.

Gary had no choice but to obey.

Just as Gary reached Kyle, Kyle suddenly struggled.

Salang raised his gun to teach him a lesson.

Then Hyman burst out of the water behind him and wrapped an arm around his neck.

He applied pressure.

The muscles in his arm bulged as they constricted around Salang’s throat.

Salang’s face turned purple.

Kyle seized the opportunity to grab the rifle and punched Salang hard.

“You won’t kill me.”

Salang forced the words out.

“I’m the only one who can get you out. And… I planted explosives on the ship.”

Kyle punched him again.

“You think we’ll believe that?”

Salang laughed.

No one knew where the trigger was.

Then…

Boom.

The section of the ship where the food was stored exploded.

“Now. Let me go.”

Hyman curled his lips.

“If you hurt him, I’ll make your death unbearable.”

Then he released him.

Salang’s expression turned manic.

“Maybe before, I would’ve been afraid. But now Mate and Machete are already dead. And I’ve come too far to turn back.”

“Hyman.”

“I am afraid of you.”

“But I’m alone.”

“If I can drag you down with me before I die, it’ll be worth it.”

Faced with explosives hidden somewhere on the ship, everyone was helpless.

The hunting rifle returned to Salang’s hands.

Kyle and the others were tied up again.

Only Terry and the other women, whom Salang considered harmless, were left untied.

Salang captured a monkey and ordered Terry to attach it to a specially designed hook.

Then he threw it into the river.

None of them had truly believed Salang or Jiang Shulan.

Until they watched with their own eyes as a green python over ten meters long bit into the monkey’s corpse.

Salang activated the mechanism and violently hauled the python toward the ship.

“There really is one!”

“Oh my God!”

“Where’s my camera?!”

Jiang Shulan finally defended himself.

“I told you there was one! But this one isn’t even half as big as the one I saw before!”

The giant python struggled violently.

Salang’s attention remained fixed entirely on it.

Terry seized the opportunity to untie everyone.

Even if they got lost in the rainforest, she’d rather risk that than let Salang continue.

The giant python thrashed wildly.

Its strength shook the entire boat.

The moment Terry untied Jiang Shulan, he saw the python’s tail sweeping toward her.

There was no time to think.

He shoved Terry aside.

Instead, the python’s tail wrapped tightly around his lower leg.

Pain exploded through him.

His vision went black.

Then, in the next instant, the giant python was sent flying.

The black python from before had appeared.

It wrapped around Jiang Shulan’s entire body and vanished into the jungle.
