Chapter 7: Deadly Bend 7 – Hehe

“Damn it!

‘He’s a grown man, and he’s actually tattling to Amy!’

Jiang Shulan rubbed his conscience, which was beginning to ache faintly.

Although he was the one who brought up breaking up first, that wasn’t really his fault… right?

“Anyway, I’m breaking up with you.”

Tilting his head, Jiang Shulan leaned close to Vincent’s ear. While cautiously watching Amy, he lowered his voice, his warm breath brushing against Vincent’s skin as he spoke.

“No matter what Amy says, we’re over. This is a notification, not a discussion!”

“You were the one who pursued me first.”

Vincent’s eyes narrowed dangerously. It seemed that ever since Jiang Shulan had suggested breaking up, Vincent had completely given up maintaining his gentle facade around him.

“Do you think this is something you can decide on your own?”

“I said it’s a notification!”

Jiang Shulan didn’t care. After saying that, he crossed his arms and turned toward the window in a huff.

Vincent grabbed one of his arms.

“Shulan, you’re not a child anymore. You need to take responsibility for the things you say.”

“I won’t.”

Jiang Shulan turned back, his blue eyes wide and round as he stubbornly argued back.

“So what?”

“So what?”

Vincent chuckled softly and slowly removed his glasses, setting them aside.

The next second, before Jiang Shulan could react, Vincent had already captured his lips.

“You-”

He barely managed to say a single word before his mouth was forced open. After that, no sounds escaped him except ragged breaths.

There were still so many people in the car…

Jiang Shulan pressed both hands against Vincent’s shoulders and pushed with all his strength, but Vincent was like a starving dog finally tasting meat for the first time, completely unwilling to let go.

He sucked greedily and urgently, as though trying to devour him whole.

The others in the car weren’t deaf. Naturally, they noticed the increasingly suggestive sounds coming from the back seat.

But because it was Vincent, they all pretended not to notice, continuing their conversations with forced composure and silently agreeing not to look back.

About an hour later, when the group finally saw the name of the town ahead, everyone hurried out of the vehicle as though escaping.

Smack!

The moment Jiang Shulan finally got a chance to breathe, he slapped Vincent hard across the face.

His T-shirt had been pushed halfway up, exposing a slender waist covered with red finger marks. His eyes were red, his lashes clumped together with tears.

His whole body trembled.

“Have you never dated anyone before?”

He looked ready to explode.

The man hadn’t given him any time to breathe. If he hadn’t struggled on his own, he might actually have suffocated to death.

“Sorry.”

Vincent calmly licked the moisture from his lips.

He wasn’t embarrassed in the slightest, nor did he care about the handprint on his face.

“Perhaps you should learn how to swim. That way you could hold your breath longer… and kiss me longer.”

Jiang Shulan kicked him in the shin.

It didn’t hurt much.

More like a tickle.

Vincent didn’t dodge. Instead, he reached out and grabbed Jiang Shulan’s ankle.

Jiang Shulan tried to yank it back.

Failed.

Vincent’s thumb traced a slow circle over the protruding bone of his ankle.

Ignoring Jiang Shulan’s furious glare, he suddenly warned:

“For the next few days, behave yourself. Don’t wander off alone.”

“Especially when you’re by yourself.”

His voice dropped lower, low enough that it seemed meant for Jiang Shulan alone.

“If you see anyone suspicious, tell me immediately.”

The things he liked…

His younger brother would surely like them too.

After all, the two brothers had always shared the same tastes.

Because he had left his brother alone in the settlement, he could give him anything he wanted.

But Shulan…

“Shulan. Vincent.”

Amy knocked on the car window, interrupting Vincent’s thoughts and rescuing Jiang Shulan.

“We’ve already checked into the inn. You two are sharing a room.”

“What?! No way! Amy! I don’t want to stay in the same room as this freaking pervert!”

Amy’s teasing gaze drifted to Jiang Shulan’s swollen lips.

“Don’t be shy. We’re all couples here, we understand.”

“But the walls in this inn aren’t very thick.”

She smiled meaningfully.

“Tell Vincent to keep it down.”

Jiang Shulan instantly turned bright red from head to toe.

He shot Vincent another vicious glare before storming into the inn.

Amy shook her head helplessly, amused.

Walking beside her, Darius spread his hands.

“Honey, I told you. It’s better not to get involved in those two’s relationship.”

The innkeeper knew the group was planning to go hiking in the mountains.

As Amy and Darius headed upstairs, she suddenly lowered her voice and said:

“Miss, I’d suggest being careful when you’re hiking. Stay on the marked trails. Don’t try exploring new routes.”

“The mountains are dangerous.”

“Dangerous?”

Amy looked confused.

“But this mountain is famous, isn’t it? I saw lots of people recommending it online.”

“That’s because…”

The innkeeper caught sight of Vincent approaching from the corner of her eye.

Her voice became even quieter.

“The weather’s been unstable lately. There might be storms.”

“Don’t worry.”

Amy nodded, oblivious to Vincent’s arrival.

“We’re only staying in the mountains for a day. The forecast says the storms won’t come for another week.”

“That’s good, then.”

The innkeeper said nothing more.

Amy and Darius went upstairs.

After what happened in the car, neither of the other couples felt particularly comfortable.

“You don’t seem very enthusiastic about us entering the mountains.”

Vincent strolled over to the counter at an unhurried pace.

One arm rested on the counter, supporting his chin, while his other hand casually flipped through the guest registry.

“Quite a few people have checked out recently.”

He scanned the pages.

“Are they dissatisfied with the service?”

“You’re absolutely right.”

The innkeeper nervously took a sip of coffee, twisting her hands together.

“I’ll have a talk with the staff.”

“Good.”

Vincent turned and headed upstairs.

He didn’t take a key.

Because his key could open every door in the inn.

No.

More accurately…

Every door in this town.

[System, are you sure you marked who the final boss is? Vincent really isn’t the boss?]

Jiang Shulan locked the room door, then dragged a desk in front of it for extra security.

Only after confirming that nobody could easily enter did he relax.

If Vincent wasn’t the boss, then why did he seem to know that people were likely going to die on this trip?

Could he be working together with the boss?!

Jiang Shulan immediately sought confirmation from the System.

[Jiang! Shu! Lan! Do you even remember your mission?!]

[…Hehe. Sorry. I forgot.]

Those who are favored can afford to be fearless.

Jiang Shulan flopped backward onto the bed and began shamelessly acting cute.

[System, it’s only because I like you so much. I want to share everything with you. That’s all.]

[…Fine. If you forget your mission, I’ll remind you.]

‘Success!’

Jiang Shulan’s eyes curved into crescents as he rolled around happily on the bed.

As for that annoying pervert Vincent…

He could go to hell!

“Shulan?”

The doorknob rattled several times.

The person outside couldn’t get in.

“Why did you lock the door?”

Jiang Shulan pretended not to hear and secretly snickered.

Oddly enough, the person outside didn’t try again.

A few seconds later, Amy’s voice came through the door.

“Shulan, we’re going to get dinner. Want to come?”

“I don’t want to.”

“Why not? Are you tired? Let’s eat first and then come back to sleep.”

The door that Jiang Shulan had locked himself was opened by his own hand moments later.

Vincent smiled knowingly.

“Hungry?”

Jiang Shulan lowered his head and said nothing.

He looked completely defeated.

Darius tactfully pulled Amy away.

Jiang Shulan shuffled after them like a wandering ghost, still refusing to look up.

‘Did I tease him too much?’

For some reason, a corner of Vincent’s cold, hardened heart softened.

A strange ache spread through him.

Just as he was about to coax Jiang Shulan…

A sharp pain exploded beneath his foot.

“Oh, yes.”

The young man lifted his face with a bright smile and stomped down harder.

“I’m hungry.”

He grinned sweetly, emphasizing every word.

“What about you?”

“…Me too.”

Vincent smiled as well.
