Join the ServerDeadly traps had been set throughout the entire house. In the pitch-black darkness, one wrong step could trigger disaster. To keep Jiang Shulan from getting hurt, A-jin simply bent down and picked him up.
Jiang Shulan was completely dumbfounded.
Being carried was one thing, but why was he being held like a child? Was he really that light?
He couldn’t help feeling irritated.
A-jin, however, mistook it for fear. He patted Jiang Shulan’s back with his broad hand in reassurance.
“Don’t be afraid. I’ll get you out of here. I promise.”
“…Thank you, A-jin.”
Jiang Shulan took a deep breath, trying to make his voice sound calm and mature.
“But I have my own way of staying alive. If something dangerous happens again, don’t worry about me. Just run out and call the police.”
He had cried for so long that no matter how hard he tried to suppress it, the heavy nasal tone in his voice remained.
The way A-jin looked at him immediately became even more affectionate.
Jiang Shulan was genuinely grateful that A-jin had saved him.
But he still needed to complete his mission and get himself killed.
He definitely couldn’t let A-jin rescue him for real.
Still, after thinking about how many times A-jin had saved him already, Jiang Shulan decided he would help A-jin escape first before resuming his self-destructive plans.
A-jin carried him into Hannah’s bedroom, the room belonging to the employer’s youngest daughter, and made a gesture for silence.
“Stay here quietly. Don’t make any noise.”
“I need to save someone. A little girl, Hannah. She’s too young. I can’t leave her alone in this house.”
Taking advantage of the earlier chaos, he had already removed the boards covering this room’s window. They could escape through it at any time.
But Hannah was still somewhere inside the house.
Thinking about how adorable she had been during the day, A-jin couldn’t bear the thought of a child facing a serial killer like Night Demon alone.
Especially since he had a niece around the same age.
“If something happens to me, climb out that window and run. Can you do that?”
A-jin still couldn’t stop worrying about Jiang Shulan. After carefully explaining everything, he started to leave.
Jiang Shulan quickly grabbed his hand.
“I can help.”
A-jin froze.
How could someone like this possibly exist?
Even after being trapped in danger himself…
Even after being treated so horribly by Night Demon…
Even after crying until he could barely breathe…
He still wanted to help others.
A-jin couldn’t tear his eyes away from those blue eyes.
They were a pure, crystalline blue, like the sky after autumn rain.
Bright and clear.
Around the edges of his irises was a darker ring of deep sapphire blue, like the deepest part of a lake.
The combination made his eyes look both innocent and breathtaking.
Meanwhile, the corners of those eyes were still flushed red from crying, creating a striking contrast that was almost mesmerizing.
A-jin swallowed.
His fingers tightened involuntarily.
Reason and emotion battled fiercely inside him.
In the end, beneath the gaze of those blue eyes, he couldn’t help leaning forward and placing an incredibly gentle kiss on Jiang Shulan’s forehead.
“No, good boy. Just protect yourself.”
He would get Jiang Shulan out of here.
Even if it cost him his life.
A-jin left the room.
Jiang Shulan touched his forehead blankly.
[What… was that supposed to mean?]
[Tch.]
The system sounded thoroughly annoyed.
[Just hurry up and get yourself killed, Jiang Shulan.]
[I’m trying!]
Jiang Shulan pouted miserably.
“He likes you.”
A little girl climbed out from beneath the bed, clutching a teddy bear.
Her childish voice sounded completely certain.
“I guarantee it.”
Jiang Shulan’s eyes widened instantly.
“Why are you here?!”
And why would A-jin like him?!
He hadn’t even done anything!
‘Wait…’
Wasn’t A-jin looking for her?
What happened to the child-protection rule that always existed in horror movies?
Jiang Shulan quietly opened the door and peeked outside.
A-jin was nowhere to be seen.
Great.
This was bad.
Very bad.
He felt like crying.
Then…
“Honk-”
A car horn suddenly sounded outside.
Jiang Shulan quickly picked Hannah up and looked out the window.
The house had no lights on, so they hadn’t been able to see outside before.
Only now did he realize that thunder was rumbling overhead and fierce winds were howling.
A storm was approaching.
Not far from the house, a man and a woman climbed out of a car.
They were obviously a couple.
They were kissing so enthusiastically while walking that they practically seemed attached to each other.
Jiang Shulan immediately covered Hannah’s eyes.
Hannah, however, seemed completely unbothered.
“That’s my sister, Jill,” she whispered.
“Hey! Jill!”
Ignoring the risk of attracting Night Demon, Jiang Shulan shouted through the window.
“Call the police! There’s a murderer here!”
“Why would we call the police?”
Hannah tilted her head.
“Aren’t we just playing hide-and-seek with Mom?”
Only then did Jiang Shulan realize the children’s mother had lied to them to keep them from worrying.
She had told them it was just a game.
Jiang Shulan played along.
“That’s right. But now we’ve reached the part where the police are supposed to show up.”
“Who’s going to play the police officer?”
“I don’t know.”
While continuing to shout for Jill’s attention, he answered:
“It’s a surprise your parents planned.”
The wind was too loud.
Jill and her boyfriend were about to enter the house completely unaware of the deadly traps waiting inside.
Without hesitation, Jiang Shulan set Hannah down and grabbed a flower vase from the table.
He smashed it against the window.
Crash!
He had expected the glass to be much harder to break.
Instead, it shattered instantly.
The noise successfully caught Jill’s attention.
She hurried toward the house.
There wasn’t time to explain much.
The sound he had made was enormous.
Night Demon would probably arrive any moment now.
Jiang Shulan didn’t care what happened to himself.
He was supposed to die anyway.
But who knew what that insane, twisted killer might do to a little girl?
Quickly explaining the situation, he tore a bedsheet into a long strip.
He wrapped Hannah’s body and limbs securely, tied one end to the bed frame, and looped the rest around his wrist.
“Hannah, let’s keep playing, okay? Don’t move.”
Hannah nodded obediently.
“Okay!”
Jiang Shulan carefully fed the sheet through the broken window.
Little by little, he lowered her down.
Hannah stayed perfectly still.
She only watched him with bright, trusting eyes.
When Jill finally caught her and ran away carrying her, Jiang Shulan let out a sigh of relief.
[Jiang Shulan, your hand is bleeding.]
He looked down.
Long red cuts stretched along the outside of his forearm.
His skin was so pale that the torn flesh and blood looked especially shocking.
In the chaos earlier, he had only managed to smash the center of the window.
He hadn’t paid attention to the surrounding shards.
He definitely hadn’t expected the injuries to look this severe.
[It’s fine. It doesn’t hurt.]
He casually flicked the blood from his arm and wiped the wounds.
He still needed to find A-jin and help him escape.
The moment Jiang Shulan turned around, he froze.
Someone was standing directly behind him.
Less than half a step away.
If either of them leaned forward or backward even slightly, they would touch.
What made his scalp go numb was the fact that he hadn’t sensed Night Demon’s presence at all.
Night Demon was tall.
Before Jiang Shulan could even properly see his expression, all he registered was a massive black silhouette silently blocking out every bit of light.
When had he arrived?
How long had he been standing there?
Why hadn’t he stopped him?
Jiang Shulan could hear his own heartbeat.
The other man remained perfectly motionless.
Silent.
Still.
Not even a breath could be heard.
Jiang Shulan wanted to retreat.
But the wall was already at his back.
At last, his gaze met Night Demon’s.
Those terrifying eyes stared down at him in eerie silence.
He swallowed.
Then raised a hand and waved awkwardly.
“Hello there.”
The moment the words left his mouth, he shoved both hands against Night Demon’s chest and tried to run.
The next second, something covered his head.
Darkness swallowed his vision.
And then…
A storm of kisses descended upon him.
