Join the ServerBeyond the door stood a colossal sculpted human face, surrounded by stone pillars arranged across the floor.
Dr. Shaw picked up the severed head and looked toward the walls.
They were covered in murals, seemingly depicting the experiences of the Engineers.
Jiang Shulan stared at them until his head began to spin.
David approached one of the pillars and studied it intently.
A steady stream of black liquid was flowing from its top.
Jiang Shulan walked over curiously.
“David, what are you looking at?”
“Is this oil?”
“No. Of course not.”
David immediately moved him backward, placing himself between Jiang Shulan and the pillar.
He didn’t allow him to touch it.
In fact, he didn’t even want him to look at it.
“Then what is it?”
Jiang Shulan stepped left, then right.
David continued blocking him firmly, refusing to let him get any closer.
Jiang Shulan pursed his lips.
“David, let me see.”
His voice dragged out at the end.
He was acting spoiled again.
But these things were dangerous.
“No.”
David smiled gently.
“We still don’t understand anything here. For safety reasons, it’s best if you don’t touch anything.”
Jiang Shulan immediately became dissatisfied.
“Then why are you touching it?”
Because he was an android.
If he became contaminated, he could be destroyed.
If he broke, he could be rebuilt.
Only his little master would ask such an innocent question.
After all these years, his little master still hadn’t changed at all.
“Because if something happens to my body, my parts can be replaced.”
David chose his words carefully.
He didn’t want to draw such a clear line between them.
“But if your body is harmed, nothing can truly make up for that.”
Jiang Shulan still refused to give up.
He raised one finger seriously.
“David, I’ll only take one look.”
David remained utterly unmoved.
“Not even one look.”
When it came to Jiang Shulan’s safety, he and Weyland were equally uncompromising.
Vickers’ voice came through the communicator.
“Little Treasure, you have to come back immediately. The storm has accelerated. You have about fifteen minutes left. David, if you fail to bring Little Treasure back before then, you know the consequences.”
“I will bring Little Master back.”
David replied calmly.
“Please be prepared to seal the hatch at any time.”
He casually slipped the stone pillar into his bag, scooped Jiang Shulan into his arms, and began running.
The scenery blurred past Jiang Shulan’s eyes like a violent wind.
David had pushed his speed to its absolute limit.
By the time Jiang Shulan could clearly see his surroundings again, David had already placed him inside the vehicle.
The storm surged toward them like a tidal wave.
Jiang Shulan turned around and knelt on the back seat, facing the approaching catastrophe.
He murmured softly, “It really looks like the end of the world.”
“Little Master.”
David’s elegant voice came from the driver’s seat.
“The end of the world is not this gentle.”
He had heard him, despite how quietly he had spoken.
“And even if it were the end of the world, I would still protect you and bring you back unharmed. I promise.”
Jiang Shulan didn’t really believe him.
Still, he smiled politely.
“Okay. Thank you.”
They chatted briefly.
Dr. Shaw, Holloway, and the medic Ford still hadn’t emerged.
David calmly assessed the storm and the distance between them.
“I’ll give them one more minute. If they’re not back within a minute, I’ll return immediately.”
When it came to Jiang Shulan’s safety, even his own plans came second.
Fortunately, Dr. Shaw and the others arrived in time.
David immediately started the vehicle.
Jiang Shulan turned to look at the storm again.
Sand and rocks were lifted into the air and hurled around like meteor showers, crashing violently against the vehicle.
Dr. Shaw followed close behind them in another vehicle, clutching the Engineer’s head tightly.
About ten minutes later, they reached the entrance to the ship.
David carried Jiang Shulan out of the vehicle and hurried inside.
Only after safely delivering him into Vickers’ hands did he turn and head back out.
Dr. Shaw also got out of the vehicle.
But she stumbled.
The bag containing the Engineer’s head was instantly ripped away by the wind.
“No!”
Ignoring the danger, she lunged after it.
The storm immediately swept her away.
Holloway rushed after her.
Vickers looked toward David.
David understood instantly.
Grasping a safety line, he stepped directly into the storm and managed to rescue both of them.
The entrance was sealed immediately.
Inside the ship, everyone struggled to calm their racing hearts.
The silence became almost oppressive.
Jiang Shulan wasn’t frightened at all.
David had protected him so thoroughly that, compared to the others who were covered in dust and debris, the only thing dirty on him was the mud on the soles of his shoes.
Still, in the interest of fitting in, he kept quiet.
His blue eyes darted around, observing everyone’s reactions.
Vickers said nothing, but her fingers were trembling slightly.
She was far more worried than she let on.
Noticing Jiang Shulan watching him, David winked.
Jiang Shulan’s eyes widened.
The newer models of David would never make such a playful gesture.
The only one who used to tease him like that was the original David.
“Shaw!”
Holloway was furious.
“You can’t keep doing this! If the head was lost, we could find another one. But if something happened to you, what would I do?”
“I’m sorry, Holloway.”
Dr. Shaw hugged him.
“It won’t happen again, alright?”
After comforting her boyfriend, she turned to David.
“Thank you, David.”
“You’re welcome.”
David’s behavior was impeccable.
“It was my duty.”
Holloway was still angry and took it out on David.
“He’s just an android. Why are you thanking him?”
Jiang Shulan brushed the dust off David’s shoulder.
David quietly thanked him.
Jiang Shulan smiled pointedly.
“Well, it seems some people on this ship have terrible manners. Even an android knows to say thank you when someone helps them.”
“You…”
Holloway’s face turned green.
Jiang Shulan snorted loudly.
Competing over who could be more arrogant?
He had never lost to anyone.
Captain Janek asked, “Where are Fifield and Milburn?”
Dr. Shaw looked confused.
“Didn’t they come back before us?”
“No.”
Janek immediately connected to the communicators inside their helmets.
After briefly explaining the situation, he instructed them, “The storm has already begun. Stay where you are. Don’t touch anything. We’ll come get you tomorrow morning.”
Milburn and Fifield both agreed immediately.
Vickers stood outside the quarantine chamber with Jiang Shulan.
Inside, Dr. Shaw and Ford were preparing to examine the Engineer’s head.
They soon discovered that what looked like the Engineer’s skull was actually a helmet.
Working together, they removed it.
Beneath it was the face of an Engineer, indistinguishable from a human.
Ford gasped.
“My God. Shaw, your theory was actually correct!”
Unable to hide her excitement, Dr. Shaw personally connected bioelectrical currents to the Engineer’s brain.
She awakened a being that had been dead for two thousand years.
The Engineer slowly opened his eyes.
Less than a second later, his face twisted in agony.
Black, foul-smelling fluid poured from his head.
Vickers almost shouted.
“What are you standing there for? Destroy it immediately!”
She couldn’t help thinking that these scientists were somehow less cautious than she was.
