After shopping with my sister, I massaged my aching legs and swore to myself with conviction.
I would never go shopping with a girl again!
Though exhausted, I couldn’t rest just yet. The supermarket supplier I’d contacted earlier had just delivered the bulk order to the warehouse.
I needed to store the goods in my spatial dimension; only then would I feel at ease.
After all, unforeseen events could strike at any moment…
After several round trips in a taxi, I managed to collect all the delivered items. Only a few slower batches remained outstanding.
However, they should all arrive by tomorrow.
With everything settled, I returned home.
It had been an exhausting day. Thus, after washing up, I fell asleep the moment my head hit the pillow.
The night passed without incident. Before I knew it, dawn broke.
‘Ring, ring, ring…’
I reached out and silenced the insistent alarm. Then, I picked up my phone to check the time.
It was five in the morning. Time for my exercise routine.
My sister was still asleep. As I dressed for my run, I specifically checked her room and found no signs of movement.
I started my run near home. But the further I ran, the more a sense of unease began to creep in!
It was too quiet today. Usually, by five in the morning, many people would be out exercising.
Yet now, I only encountered a scattered few still persevering with their workouts.
The weather was excellent today. There shouldn’t be so few people out.
A sudden, ominous premonition surged within me, lingering persistently.
The more I ran, the more anxious I became. I decided to stop abruptly. After checking my phone and confirming the last few batches of goods had arrived at the warehouse, I quickly hailed a taxi and headed there.
I needed to collect these supplies as soon as possible. The ominous premonition was making me incredibly uneasy.
Despite my internal panic, I reached my destination and successfully transferred the supplies into my spatial dimension. Nothing out of the ordinary occurred, leaving me to wonder if my premonition had been mistaken.
When I sought another taxi to return home, the usually bustling streets had become eerily desolate. People moved with hurried, expressionless faces, as if a pallor of death had settled upon them.
I waited a full twenty minutes before a taxi finally appeared.
“Master, what’s happening today? I barely see anyone on the streets.”
As soon as I settled into the car, I eagerly questioned the driver, hoping to glean some information from him.
“You don’t know yet? Since yesterday, a flu virus has been spreading. They say it came from America, crossing the ocean, and it’s caused many people to catch colds and fevers. Now, everyone’s either in the hospital or staying home.”
“A flu virus?”
“That’s right! People who’ve caught it can’t even eat, and some are even throwing up stomach acid.”
“Master, please drive faster! I just remembered I might have left the gas on at home, and my sister is still there!”
“I can’t do that. I have to obey traffic laws; I can’t run a red light. Otherwise…”
The moment I heard ‘flu virus’, I finally understood the persistent, ominous premonition that had plagued me since morning. The current turn of events mirrored exactly how things unfolded ten years ago during the zombie virus outbreak.
And it was precisely at this time that my sister had left home alone.
“Master, don’t worry about running red lights. If anything happens, I’ll take responsibility, but right now, you must rush me home.”
“You young man, alright, hold on tight. Back in the day, I was known as the King of Speed.”
The more I thought, the more restless I became. I pulled out the remaining few thousand yuan from my pocket and shoved it all into the driver’s hand.
The driver didn’t refuse. After counting the money, he pocketed it, and the car’s speed instantly surged.
‘The zombie virus outbreak has actually started early! I just hope my sister doesn’t encounter any trouble!’
