Chapter 78: The Driver’s Demise and a Sister’s Sympathy

After dealing with the Corpse Orb, I decided it was time to properly deal with the driver.

Since he intended to use my sister and me as bait, letting him off easily simply wasn’t my style. Not the way Bai Han operated.

However, the moment I opened the car door and saw the man in the driver’s seat, alongside several bound women in the back, I realized the situation was far more complicated than I initially thought.

I had no intention of letting the driver go in the first place. So, when the man tried to ambush me and fired his gun, I effortlessly tilted my head, evading the bullet’s trajectory.

With a swift movement, I reached out and clutched the man’s throat with one hand.

“Big Brother! Let’s talk this out… I…”

“There’s nothing to discuss. Those who commit many wrongs will perish by their own hand. Go meet the King of Hell!”

The man who had ambushed me immediately filled with terror upon seeing how easily I dodged the bullet. As my hand closed around his neck, he pleaded incessantly for mercy.

But alas, I, Bai Han, was no saint. A simple plea for mercy wouldn’t suffice.

I would never show leniency to anyone who tried to harm me.

With a loud ‘crack’ of bone, I snapped the man’s neck without hesitation, killing him instantly.

“Brother, how is that person… Oh, he’s dead!”

“Hmm, perhaps he was driving too fast just now! So he broke his neck.”

My gaze was cold as I watched the now lifeless man. Only after confirming he had completely stopped breathing did I release my grip.

Because he was buckled in, his body sprang back into the seat the moment I let go, his grotesquely twisted neck leaning against the headrest.

Just as I had tossed the corpse back into the seat, my sister, who had remained behind, heard the gunshot. Overwhelmed with worry, she immediately ran towards me.

When she reached my side and saw the dead man in the car, she gasped. However, after my forced explanation, she smiled and nodded, indicating her understanding.

I didn’t want my sister to know that I had killed someone!

Even though the corpse’s neck now bore a prominent ring of finger marks, visible to anyone who wasn’t blind…

Since this was still the early stage of the apocalypse, while zombies eating people was common, murder was still rare. If we reached the mid-to-late stages of the apocalypse, people likely wouldn’t be so surprised by it.

After all, to survive in the apocalypse, one had to contend not only with zombies but also with other humans.

But for now, I couldn’t let my sister see me kill. I didn’t want to leave a negative impression on her heart.

“Hmph, death was too easy for him! To lure the Corpse Orb towards us, I really wanted to beat him… Eh? Brother, look, there are people in the back seat!”

“Yes, I see them.”

However, to my surprise, my sister wasn’t startled by the driver’s death. Her expression was almost as if it were a common occurrence, which made me frown involuntarily.

My earlier explanation that the man died on his own was too far-fetched, especially with the clear strangulation marks on his neck.

Yet, my sister’s nonchalant demeanor now made me worry about her.

‘I know my thoughts are contradictory right now. I don’t want my sister to see my ruthless side, but I also don’t want her to become cruel and cold-blooded. These two conflicting ideas constantly churned within me.’

If I hadn’t awakened my precognitive abilities, and hadn’t known my sister would become the Faceless Butcher, perhaps I wouldn’t be so anxious now.

But reality had granted me precognition, revealing that my sister would become a ruthless demon lord who killed without batting an eye.

Based on what I knew of the rumored Faceless Butcher before my rebirth, they were a complete antisocial psychopath in the apocalypse, killing indiscriminately, slaughtering any human they encountered.

This led to various large bases and survivor alliances jointly pursuing and apprehending the Faceless Butcher.

But the ultimate outcome was that anyone who sought out the Faceless Butcher would be brutally killed by them.

These rumors, at the time, seemed like a fantasy to me, as I wasn’t on the same level as the Faceless Butcher. But I never imagined the Faceless Butcher would be my own sister!

“These women are tied up; they look so uncomfortable. I’ll go release them right away.”

“Yes, go ahead.”

As I worried about my sister, a sudden look of sympathy appeared on her face. Following her gaze, I saw the bound women in the back seat.

Their mouths were gagged with towels, so they could only emit meaningless muffled grunts.

However, their eyes, fixed on my sister and me, were filled with desperate pleas, hoping we would save them.

I had intended to untie these women myself, but my sister had now volunteered, so I allowed her to help them escape their predicament.

At least, my sister still felt sympathy for these women. Perhaps my worries were excessive.

As long as I kept my sister by my side, watching over her personally, I would absolutely prevent her from becoming the Faceless Butcher!

“It’s okay, my brother and I are here to save you! Don’t worry, I’ll untie the ropes for you right now.”

Watching my sister excitedly rush to the back seat, quickly untying the women and violently tearing the ropes with her bare hands, made me shake my head helplessly.

My sister had a kind nature; she wasn’t someone who would stand by and watch others die.

My ruthless killing of the driver earlier wasn’t just because he had drawn trouble to us and shot at me. It was also because… I had seen the bound women in the back seat.

Their clothes were torn, and the exposed skin bore marks of abuse. All of this indicated that the man I had choked to death was certainly no good person.

Scum like him deserved to die, saving others from his future harm.

“Please, save my mother.”

The moment my sister untied a teenage girl and removed the cloth gagging her mouth, the girl immediately fell to her knees, her eyes brimming with tears, pleading desperately.
