After my furious kick sent the soundwave zombie crashing into the wall, killing it instantly, I quickly spun around, anxious to check if my sister had been injured by the sonic vibrations.
But the moment I turned, I saw my sister and the three others, including Big Gold Tooth, staring at me with an utterly strange look in their eyes.
It was as if they were looking at an alien, making me feel quite uncomfortable.
“Wow! Brother, you’re incredible!”
“Brother Bai, from today onwards, you are my idol.”
“Oh my god! I’ve never seen anyone so formidable. Brother Bai, you’re the first! To actually kick a zombie to death with a single blow…”
“Exactly! And this wasn’t just any ordinary zombie either. Brother Bai is truly astounding!”
After a brief moment of shock, my sister, Big Gold Tooth, and the others began to look at me with increasingly fervent gazes, their faces filled with such adoration that I felt even more awkward.
Kicking a zombie away with one blow seemed rather unremarkable to me. A mere soundwave zombie was something any ability user could handle ten years into the apocalypse.
Therefore, I didn’t see anything particularly praiseworthy about it.
Shaking my head helplessly at these guys, I walked over to my sister. I cupped her head in my hands and thoroughly checked her from all angles, only to find that she was perfectly fine.
Soundwave zombies weren’t actually very powerful. However, their sonic attacks could easily rupture human eardrums, and in severe cases, even shatter the brain.
Fortunately, I had kicked the zombie to death before it could howl for too long, so my sister hadn’t sustained any injuries.
My careful examination of her seemed a bit overly anxious in hindsight. Still, checking was better than not checking; at least it confirmed that my sister was unharmed.
“Alright, alright, I’m fine! Let’s get going!”
While I was checking her head, my sister’s cheeks inexplicably flushed. Her eyes darted away, unwilling to meet mine. After speaking, she quickly pulled her head free from my hands.
Standing aside, she lowered her head, blushing, and dared not look at me. The hem of her clothes, clutched in her hands, was almost torn to shreds.
Her resistant behavior didn’t bother me much; as long as my sister wasn’t hurt, that was all that mattered.
“Alright, let’s continue. The three of you, don’t recklessly attract any more zombies, or don’t blame me for feeding you to them directly.”
After hearing my sister’s words, I nodded at her. Then, I lifted my gaze and glared at Big Gold Tooth and the other two, warning them sternly.
They had carelessly attracted five or six zombies. If we ended up in an area with more zombies, they could easily draw in a much larger horde.
These three were a nuisance to keep around. Perhaps…
“Yes, yes, whatever Brother Bai says goes!”
“Right, we absolutely won’t attract any more zombies.”
“We’ll obey Brother Bai unconditionally!”
Even as I reprimanded them with a cold expression, Big Gold Tooth and his companions showed no shame. Instead, their faces lit up with excitement as they spoke, slapping their chests in a serious pledge to complete their task.
Watching their exaggerated antics, a few dark lines seemed to appear on my face, leaving me at a loss for how to deal with them.
If Big Gold Tooth and the others had shown any hint of insubordination, I could have justifiably killed them. But now, they were more obedient than model students, giving me no reason to eliminate them.
There was nothing for it. For now, I could only continue traveling with the three of them.
