Chapter 75: The Road to B City

“Elbows high, feet firm. Don’t fear your opponent; strike directly with your blade.”

“Yes!”

In the narrow alley, my sister approached a Level 3 zombie.

I stood nearby, my gaze fixed on her. As I watched her grip the blade and charge swiftly towards the Level 3 Enhanced Zombie, the serene resolve in her eyes was a stark contrast to the initial panic she’d shown upon seeing a zombie. It was clear she had grown accustomed to this new reality.

A gleaming katana was clutched in her hand. She held the blade horizontally across her chest, aiming for the zombie’s head, poised to strike. The sunlight caught its polished surface, reflecting a blinding glare.

The Level 3 Enhanced Zombie my sister faced primarily boasted reinforced arms. It was significantly more formidable than the Level 1 zombies we had encountered before. Its elongated fingernails could slice a sharp fissure into a wall with a mere brush.

Simultaneously, the zombie’s movements had also drastically improved.

As my sister drew near, a strange smile spread across the zombie’s decaying face, and its hands lunged violently towards her.

If this had been before, my sister would have been utterly incapable of handling a Level 3 zombie. However, a week had passed since we parted ways with Li Fenghua, Big Gold Tooth, and Brother Li at the factory, and I had led my sister all the way towards B City.

My original plan was to stay home with her, awaiting the army’s arrival, out of concern for her safety on the road.

But after the incident with Brother Li, I realized that merely waiting was insufficient. The more pressing matter was how to enhance my sister’s abilities.

Therefore, I abandoned my initial plan and led my sister through the harsh realities of the apocalypse, allowing her to adapt to the rhythm of combat as early as possible.

Now, it seemed the results were quite promising.

At this moment, my sister no longer exhibited the same fear when confronting zombies, and her movements had become considerably more practiced.

As long as I watched over her, it was unlikely any serious problems would arise.

“Brother, I found a ‘Heaven’ attribute crystal core!”

With a slight flick, she cleaned the black blood from her blade. Then, ignoring the zombie’s mangled face, my sister took a few steps forward and retrieved a red crystal core from its half-severed skull.

The crystal core pulsed with a crimson glow, three tiny black dots swirling within it. Under the sunlight, it appeared exquisitely clear and translucent.

It was so beautiful, one could scarcely believe it had been extracted from a zombie’s head!

“Mm, excellent. Keep this crystal core for absorption. Didn’t you say yesterday you felt you were nearing a bottleneck? After absorbing this Level 3 crystal core, you’ll definitely reach Level 3.”

“Brother, hold onto the crystal core for me for now. I’ll ask for it when I need it… I lost the last one, and it broke my heart!”

“…”

“It’s just inconvenient because I don’t have spatial abilities! Brother, your ability is truly cheating! You can attack and even create storage space; it feels just like hacking in a game.”

My sister gazed at the red crystal core in her hand, sighing heavily, as if recalling the pain of accidentally dropping the crystal core she had tucked into her pocket three days prior.

Upon hearing her words, a helpless smile touched my face. I took the crystal core from her hand and tossed it directly into my spatial storage.

I concealed my spatial ability from others because I simply didn’t want to get embroiled in any more conflicts.

After all, spatial abilities were exceedingly rare. Even before my rebirth, I suspected I might be the only one who possessed such a power.

Various factions and organizations coveted a spatial ability user who could serve as a mobile transport.

Therefore, if I exposed my spatial ability, it would likely invite a great deal of trouble.

However, while I couldn’t tell others, I could certainly tell my sister, Bai Xia.

After all, she was my sister.

Immediately after I revealed my spatial ability, my sister circled me in astonishment, her mouth agape in exaggerated gasps of surprise.

Exclamations like ‘Brother is amazing!’, ‘Spatial ability is the best!’, and ‘No one can compare to my incredible brother’ filled the air. Listening to her words made me feel both helpless and amused; my sister was truly so lively now.

In my memories, there was only the tsundere sister from before my rebirth, who always loved to make things difficult for me for no reason and enjoyed secretly watching me with strange eyes.

This vibrant demeanor was a stark contrast to her past self.

“Sigh! It’s so unfair! I’m exhausted working myself to death to reach Level 3, yet Brother absorbed a ruby and instantly jumped to Level 6… In a while, I’ll go find a rock to absorb too.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll find you heavenly treasures to upgrade later on too.”

“Really?”

“When have I ever lied to you? However, we need to hurry to B City now. Your training these past few days is sufficient. Let’s drive.”

I reached out and ruffled my sister’s hair. Then, extending one hand to my right, I retrieved a modified vehicle directly from my spatial storage.

These past few days, my intention wasn’t just to familiarize my sister with the apocalypse, but also to give her ample exercise.

Even though I had directly ascended to Level 6 thanks to a mid-grade heavenly treasure, my ten years of survival experience in the apocalypse, coupled with already being a Level 6 ability user before my rebirth, meant that reaching Level 6 again had no significant impact on me.

However, if my sister didn’t engage in combat with zombies, even if I merely gave her crystal cores to upgrade, it wouldn’t be beneficial for her future development.

It would be like constructing a skyscraper with shoddy foundations, making the building precarious and prone to collapse at any unknown moment.

Nevertheless, in just one week, my spatial storage had accumulated quite a few more crystal cores. This clearly indicated that my sister had gained a considerable amount of combat experience by now.

Given this, we could now drive directly to B City and pick up the pace.

After all, our parents were in B City…

“Yay! Finally, no more walking! Brother, hurry up and get in… Eh? Brother, a car is coming, but what’s that behind it?”

Upon seeing me retrieve the car from my spatial storage, my sister’s face lit up with surprise. However, just as she opened the car door to get in, her movements abruptly froze.

My sister stared ahead in astonishment, and her words piqued my curiosity, prompting me to follow her gaze and look forward as well.
