X
The zombie apocalypse had descended, though this time, it was different from before my rebirth.
My sister hadn’t vanished without a word this time; she was safely by my side. However…
“Are you feeling better?”
“Mm, I can still endure it. Just let me take one more look.”
“No, don’t! I don’t think you can handle it.”
“I can do it! I want to see!”
My sister and I stood by the window. I blocked her attempt to peer outside, first glancing myself at the horrific scene of zombies still tearing into living people.
Recalling how violently she had vomited earlier, I couldn’t bear to let her witness the hellish spectacle outside again.
Yet, my sister showed no desire to compromise. Though her face was pale, her gaze met mine with unwavering resolve.
This not only drastically altered my previous impression of her as soft and naive but also made me deeply admire her transformation.
Only by adapting could one survive in this hell.
Those unwilling to change would simply be eliminated by the apocalypse.
“It’s just zombies eating people. I’ve seen plenty of scenes like this in movies, absolutely— mmph…”
My sister’s words were cut short. Just as her gaze fell upon the window, a zombie brutally tore off someone’s head and began devouring the flesh.
While she could tolerate moderate gore, this level of brutality instantly drained the color from her face, and she couldn’t help but rush to the bathroom to vomit.
I decided it was best to let my sister adapt at her own pace.
I turned my head, surveying the street below, my gaze slowly extending towards the distant roads.
Today marked the second day since the zombie virus outbreak. Fewer and fewer living people appeared on the streets. Most, having heard broadcasts or witnessed zombies firsthand, were now hiding in their homes, too terrified to venture out.
The government seemed to have long researched the zombie virus. Immediately after the outbreak, a series of policies were swiftly issued. Simultaneously, methods for killing zombies were broadcast on television and radio.
To combat zombies, merely severing their limbs or piercing their hearts would not kill them.
Only a headshot, destroying the brain, could truly put a zombie down.
While people knew this through various channels, very few dared to actually fight the zombies.
The majority simply huddled in their homes, silently awaiting government rescue.
Remaining inactive was, of course, the safest approach initially. However, people would soon discover…
Food and water supplies would dwindle. To survive, they would naturally be forced to venture out in search of resources.
By then, however, the zombies would have evolved, their attacks far more brutal and inescapable.
Therefore, the time to hunt zombies was now.
While zombies had only just transformed, even ordinary people could kill them. They simply lacked the courage.
My sister’s immediate issue was resolved. Both she and I needed crystal cores to awaken our abilities. Furthermore, I needed to accumulate even more crystal cores to upgrade my own supernatural power.
Though the energy within a Tier 1 crystal core was modest, its acquisition was relatively safe.
Later, as zombies advanced in rank, obtaining crystal cores would become exceedingly perilous.
However, given my sister’s recent bout of sickness, I couldn’t take her out directly right now.
My current physical condition wasn’t up to par. If I brought my sister along, it would be difficult to guarantee her safety from unforeseen dangers.
For her safety, it was better for her to remain at home.
With that thought, I retrieved a backpack from my spatial storage and slung it over my shoulders. I then selected a short blade from my collection of purchased weapons, tucking it into my waistband, preparing to head out and hunt zombies.
“Brother, where are you going?”
“I’m going out to kill zombies.”
