Money truly makes the world go ’round; the ancients never lied. After I slipped the driver some money, he floored the accelerator, blazing through several red lights. He forcibly doubled the car’s speed, delivering me to my doorstep in less than ten minutes.
“Bai Xia! Bai Xia!”
Leaping from the car, I swiftly unlatched the main gate. Standing at the threshold, I began to loudly call my sister’s name.
For a long while, silence was my only answer.
A chilling thought struck me: had I arrived too late, allowing history to repeat itself exactly as it had ten years ago?
My sister had vanished before my very eyes again, and I would receive no news of her, just like before!
One step too late!
I raised my hand, slamming my fist against the doorframe. The sharp pain surged from my knuckles to my brain, leaving my entire body feeling profoundly weak.
Ever since I realized the apocalypse virus had erupted ahead of schedule, my heart had been lodged in my throat, gripped by an unbearable mix of worry and dread.
Now, however, a strange sense of relief washed over me.
What was destined to occur would ultimately come to pass.
I possessed no power to stop it…
After taking a moment to compose myself, I headed towards my room, intending to gather my belongings and prepare to leave this house.
Initially, I had worried about the dangers of bringing my sister along, but now that I was alone, those concerns had vanished.
On my way back to my own room, I found myself passing my sister’s door.
My footsteps hesitated. Unable to suppress a faint flicker of hope, I turned the doorknob and pushed open my sister’s door.
Perhaps my sister was still asleep, nestled deep in her room, which would explain why she hadn’t heard my frantic calls.
And then…
I truly saw her. My sister lay sprawled across her bed, fast asleep.
She lay on her side, her lithe figure facing away from me. Despite the delicate pose, an overwhelming urge to shake her awake, or even give her a light smack, surged through me!
I was utterly dumbfounded, caught between laughter and tears. I had been convinced my sister was gone, only to find her casually sprawled in her room. Why hadn’t she answered me earlier?
“Bai Xia, time to wake up.”
Dragging my heavy, listless body, I approached my sister. I reached out and gently tugged at her clothes, attempting to rouse her from her slumber.
Yet, no matter how persistently I tugged, my sister remained utterly unresponsive.
What was wrong?
Stepping closer, I unceremoniously rolled my sister onto her back. Her face was drenched in cold sweat, her lips utterly pale, and her expression was one of profound unease.
These feverish symptoms… could it be?
As that chilling possibility surfaced in my mind, I immediately reached out and pressed my hand against my sister’s forehead. The scorching heat of her skin made me snatch my hand back, my face etched with profound shock.
Immediately, I gently turned my sister’s head to the side, revealing her neck.
My eyes clearly registered a black spot on her neck, visibly expanding.
Good heavens! My sister is an ability user too!
I gazed at my sleeping sister in utter astonishment, a cascade of thoughts flooding my mind. My sister, who had vanished a decade ago, was actually a rare ability user.
At the onset of their awakening, ability users typically manifested a high fever and a black spot on their neck, signifying that their powers were actively developing.
Following the outbreak of the apocalypse virus, most people were infected and transformed into zombies, while a select few remained immune. However, a small fraction of individuals were also infected, yet their bodies and minds retained their original state. The only significant change was…
They had acquired various superpowers, earning them the title of ‘ability users.’
Such individuals were incredibly rare, truly one in ten thousand.
Though I myself was a space-type ability user, I had never imagined my sister would also possess such powers!
Lost in these exhilarating thoughts, I suddenly noticed my body growing increasingly weak.
I raised a hand to my face, only to find my skin burning with an intense fever.
My space-type ability had already returned to me, so why was I experiencing a high fever? Was I destined to undergo another awakening, complete with a black spot appearing on my neck?
Shaking my head with a wry chuckle, I noticed my sister’s dressing mirror positioned conveniently beside me.
I casually turned to the mirror, intending to check for any black spots on my own neck.
And then, to my utter shock, I discovered…
On my neck, a large, dark spot was already present, visibly expanding with each passing moment!
