Chapter 20: A Copy of the Soul

All the scenes were like an old disc player that had gotten stuck.

‘WTF?!’ I was startled and couldn’t help stepping back.

‘Huh? What?!’ I let out an exclamation, but I couldn’t move.

In less than half a second, it was back to normal.

Although I had never seen anything like it, I instinctively felt this might be an inevitable scene when the Goddess was looking up information.

Goddess: “Sorry, your original world…” There was sadness in her voice, making me feel that my original world had been destroyed.

‘Destroyed?’ I immediately said it out loud.

“Well… no, I can sense that world still exists. But I cannot connect to it.”

“So… I can’t go back?” I bit my lip tightly. To be honest, this was a bit unexpected.

I had never seen a protagonist in an isekai anime actively want to go back. I thought I could handle it…

‘Cough, haha.’ I let out a bitter, disbelieving laugh.

“I’m sorry, this rarely happens.” The Goddess apologized to me again and again, which made me feel a bit embarrassed.

“That’s enough, Goddess. I don’t blame you. Please don’t apologize anymore.” The Goddess gave a slight nod.

“Then can I travel to another world? Reincarnation is fine too.” I was excited. I had never been this happy since coming to this world.

Goddess: “No problem.”

“Then, then, then, can I bring various god-like talents and travel to a magic world?” I said, excited and thrilled.

“Oh, of course.”

‘Oh yeah! Awesome! Ahh, finally, I get to have a harem!’

Goddess: “So, what kind of abilities would you like?”

‘Oh! Here it comes! Here it comes! Finally! Let me think…’

I thought rapidly: immortality, all magic mastery, return by death? How about a cell phone?

But just as I thought about the phone, I realized that in a completely unfamiliar world, ‘language mastery’ was the most important thing.

Every language carries the unique culture of its country behind it.

“Then you might as well want information, knowledge, intelligence.” A certain personality suddenly said.

That’s right, knowledge is power, intelligence is money. In this crappy world, the biggest reason I suffered was that I couldn’t use magic and had no knowledge related to magic.

Thinking of this, I suddenly felt I was asking for too much.

Goddess: “What’s wrong?”

“Can I have multiple skills?” I asked, feeling a bit embarrassed, as if my request was too excessive.

“Of course.”

‘Oh my god, she actually agreed.’

“Then I want a handsome male body! And the ability to use all kinds of magic!”

“As well as a large-screen smartphone from the 30th century! It can look up information from the past, future, even other world lines! And of course, it shouldn’t break and doesn’t need electricity.”

“No problem! Anything else?” The Goddess readily agreed.

I thought for a moment. “Well… no.”

“Then which magic world do you want to travel to?” The Goddess waved her hand and sent over dozens of cards.

Each card had settings of various magic worlds written in Chinese.

Time settings like medieval, ancient, warring states, apocalyptic, etc. Also various races, magic levels, and so on.

In the end, I even saw magic wars between planets!

‘Oh my god… interplanetary magic wars!’

I looked at these world settings excitedly. Suddenly, I realized something.

‘If I just travel to another world like this, how am I going to get revenge? That despicable goblin! That despicable Black Mist!!’

Thinking this, I looked at the Goddess and asked with a silly smile, “Goddess, can I go back to my original world with the abilities I just mentioned?”

“Revenge?” The Goddess looked at me with a smile.

“Well… no, no, no, I’m not.” I immediately denied it.

“Hehehe.” The Goddess sweetly laughed. “It’s okay, revenge is very common. Don’t worry about it.”

Seeing her say it so casually, I felt really uncomfortable inside.

I felt that seeking revenge was particularly foolish…

But I didn’t want to run away, and I didn’t want to let those who bullied me off the hook.

In the end, I nodded.

“Then let’s do it. I’ll send you back now. I wish you a happy and joyful future, and may you never encounter painful things.” The Goddess raised her hand to cast divine magic.

“Wait, Goddess, let’s chat a bit more. I have other things to ask you.” I said hurriedly.

Seeing her considerate expression, I almost forgot I had some questions to ask her.

Goddess: “Oh, no problem. I have plenty of time. Go ahead.”

‘Oh oh oh! This is what a god should be! Ah, I’m healed~’

I thought happily.

“May I ask about my parents? My adoptive parents.” I don’t care about my biological parents at all. The only ones I care about are my adoptive parents; they are my true parents!

Ever since I was adopted at age two, my adoptive father posted my information online, hoping that one day my biological parents would come for me.

But it wasn’t until my senior year of high school, when I got into a key university, that my biological parents found me—and it was the day after I got the notice!

How shameless!

Thinking about their fawning faces made me want to vomit!

They kept saying they found me at some orphanage and had been looking for me for years.

But actually, I went to ask the orphanage director, and they had never come!

And by borrowing their phone, I got their friend list and did a little survey among their friends.

The result was that out of the 100 people they often talked to, the 83 who replied had no idea they had a child, let alone that they had been looking for me for years.

Pfft! Just thinking about my biological parents makes me sick! They only wanted me when I was about to succeed?

Where were they before?!

The Goddess seemed to see through me and said gently, “In every world, there are parents who abandon their children. But you are lucky to have met parents who truly love you. Don’t worry, your parents are very healthy.”

“Oh, that’s good.” I smiled contentedly. “I was worried that my death would make them sad and sick.”

“You didn’t actually die.”

“Huh?!” I was stunned by her words.

‘I didn’t die? Then how did I travel to this world?’

“In fact, that night, your consciousness was inexplicably copied—meaning your soul was copied.”

“So… I’m just a copy?” I said helplessly.

“No, you are the original consciousness. The copied consciousness stayed in your original world, and you came to this world.”

‘Huh?’ I was very confused about what exactly was going on.
