Chapter 37: The Bishop’s Interrogation

“Oh…” I nodded. “Heh heh, good thing I didn’t ask loudly just now. It would’ve been bad if I offended someone.”

“By the way, there are dragons in this world? And what’s this ‘Saint race’?”

There were even more things I didn’t know, but I decided not to ask on the road, to avoid trouble.

But I still had one question: “Then why do you all ride horses? Aren’t war beasts better?”

“Oh, that’s because a spell was cast over Shengqing Ridge. Low and mid-level spirit beasts go berserk there. But ordinary animals like horses aren’t affected. My Sherry is a high-level spirit beast, so she’s fine too.”

“So unicorns are really impressive!” I said, stroking the unicorn’s mane.

“Unicorn? Heh, well… this is actually a Unihorn.”

“Ah… um… sorry.” I blushed. I realized I didn’t know anything!

“It’s fine, it’s fine.” He comforted me gently.

“Aah! So embarrassing! I don’t dare ask anymore…”

“Ask without shame… since high school I’ve basically never asked anyone, just Baidu…”

“Asking others for advice… it’s really hard…”

Suddenly, I remembered something I had to ask, before I forgot again.

“Then, big brother, may I ask about something? Do you know what the ‘Sinless Pure Body’ is?”

General Cloud: “Huh? What’s that?” It seemed he didn’t know either. Could it be something only demons knew?

Me: “I don’t know either…”

Suddenly, the general patted my head.

“Mm…” I accepted it somewhat unhappily.

Well, I had to admit head pats felt nice…

Like when Dad used to pat me… when did I start having people pat my head?

Aah, I felt like my thoughts were getting weirder and weirder!

The carriage continued deeper into Huaying City. I was especially excited.

Soon, a reddish-brown castle appeared before my eyes. It seemed no smaller than the demon’s castle.

A different kind of solemnity made me even more eager to see it.

The castle also had a surrounding wall, tall and more ornate than the city wall, but with fewer guards.

“Why? Even though there aren’t many people, this is the last line of defense for the castle. Why are there only two or three people?”

Under normal circumstances, there were two possibilities: either they were very confident in the castle’s security, or they were stupid.

I thought the Red Demon race must be very powerful.

“So my Black Feather clan must be really weak… we’re extinct now.”

Two swordsmen in silver-gray armor stood guard at the inner gate. Seeing us approach from afar, they made some small move, and the inner gate opened.

“Aah~ So excited! I’m going to visit a castle again!”

I was in a great mood.

But once inside, tragedy struck again! An elderly man with small round glasses, accompanied by a group of guards, immediately surrounded me and the general’s Unihorn.

“This… heh, are they here to catch me?”

I didn’t want to think that way, but my experiences over the past few days forced me to assume the worst and pin it on myself.

The old man had a face that screamed villain: cunning, harsh, and malicious all written on it.

But I had even experienced the smoke fiend PM2.5, so why would I be scared? I just thought he was ugly.

“Kong Yingcai?” The general reined in his horse, his tone suspicious. “Why are you here? Looks like you’re here to arrest someone?”

“Hahaha.” The old man spoke bureaucratically, his laugh especially fake. “General Cloud, that’s not a nice thing to say. I’m just afraid that young people might have good intentions but cause trouble.”

“Yun Feibai, what’s wrong? Why have you stopped? The soldiers behind are waiting.” Yi Qin rode up on a sweaty steed.

“Yo, old man, what are you doing here? With so many people? Trying to claim credit, or looking for a fight?” Yi Qin asked cheekily, showing no fear of this Kong Yingcai.

Kong: “Marquis Yi Qin, you… really know how to joke.”

“What? Marquis? Of the five ranks… damn, he’s already a Marquis! And he’s still fighting? Serving in the army? As a military doctor?”

“Alright, let’s cut to the chase. You brought eight guards. What are you doing here?” General Cloud demanded sternly.

It was clear that both my big brother and Yi Qin were annoyed.

“Ai…” The old man spread his hands and sighed long. “I’m just being considerate, tsk tsk. Look at you two, why so angry? I’m only worried about the King’s safety.” As he spoke, he placed his right hand over his left heart, bowed his head with a look of sincerity, immersed in his own words.

He looked like… an idiot!

“And then?” General Cloud asked.

“So, for the safety of His Majesty the Crown Prince, I cannot allow you to bring a white-haired vampire inside.” Kong Yingcai’s expression was extremely narcissistic.

I really wanted to retort, “Go to hell, you vampire,” but I knew first impressions were important, so I maintained my quiet, aloof demeanor.

“Oh, very well.” With that, General Cloud dismounted. His expression turned calm, and he smiled, patting his horse’s back. “Sherry, take him home first.”

“Wait, wait, General. Heh heh, I don’t think you understood me. I mean, I need to entertain this vampire a little.” Kong Yingcai raised a hand to signal a stop. The eight guards beside him immediately gathered, holding swords, spears, and magic wands.

“Kong Yingcai, what are you?” General Cloud still had a smile, but now his hand was on his sword hilt.

“Haha, it’s just a vampire rescued from a demon. General Cloud, what do you intend to do?”

“What do I intend to do? The person I saved is my person. And he is not a vampire.”

“Hehehehe, he’s not? That’s not for you to say.”

“Then you get to say?”

“Yes, that’s right. As Prime Minister, at least, I have the responsibility! The duty! To eliminate dangers for His Majesty the Crown Prince.”

“Kong Ying!” The general’s voice suddenly rose several notches. He was burning with anger.

I didn’t understand why he was so angry for me. Maybe he just didn’t like this old man?

Just as General Cloud was about to explode, Yi Qin placed a hand on Yun Feibai’s shoulder.

“Hey, why are you getting so worked up with him?” Yi Qin said.

Hearing this, I could no longer hold back. After all, this involved me. If not for me, they probably wouldn’t be arguing.

“Aah, it’s me again, isn’t it? So what now? Should I dismount or not? Looking at that old man, if he doesn’t get his way, he won’t let General Cloud go.”
