Chapter 2: Encounter with the Spider Lord

Hearing the jailer’s shout, I realized once again that I was truly in a dungeon! Although I was already certain this was a dungeon, I still hoped it was all a dream. But that male voice I’d never heard before forced me to completely abandon my ‘fantasy’.

My initial thought that this was a prank show could now be ruled out entirely. Aside from external factors, the main reason was that in my original world, there was simply no ultra-future technology like body swapping.

“Despair!! Despair! De! spair!” I couldn’t help but sink into the negative emotions of complaint. “Ahhh, it’s over. Why did I give up a year of gaming to study?! The world is dark. Why did I get transmigrated?”

A certain personality chimed in: “Accept your fate! You’ve transmigrated into this kind of place.”

“Wait, what if my memories were all set up three seconds ago? Like in Resident Evil… But I clearly remember all those chemistry and physics formulas I crammed over the past year. I even remember going to the library the day before yesterday to look for some college books…” I tried to escape reality, assuming various possibilities besides transmigration. “If my original world had advanced technology I didn’t know about, then my current situation might not be impossible. After all, no country would expose their top technology to the outside world, let alone to an ordinary citizen like me. But is it really possible?…”

Suddenly, another personality interjected: “Kaka (imitating Shinobu’s laugh), why think about all that? Better to figure out how to escape!”

He was right. No matter the reason I came here or got a new body, getting out of the dungeon was absolutely the right move. So I began to observe and fumble around the dungeon with this incredibly weak body.

*Swish swish swish~ Swish swish swish~* (Imitating the sound of afterimages, but actually this body was super slow). After looking around, I found nothing—except for a tattered straw mat. There was nothing else in the dungeon. Despair! Not even a toilet!

But how could I give up so easily? In places like dungeons, based on my gaming experience, you’re either a criminal, a s*ave, or someone being tortured. Worst case, a death row inmate. Damn it! I didn’t want to die here.

So I persisted, slowly tapping the walls, trying to find hidden doors or mechanisms. However… (despair) I found nothing, and this body was exhausted from the exploration.

According to my internal clock, I had been active for less than twenty minutes since waking up, but this body was already famished.

“Hungry…” Due to low blood sugar, my movements slowed, and my consciousness and thinking also began to decline. I could only choose to lie down on that tattered straw mat to rest and conserve strength. Starving to death was no joke.

Before sleeping, I mustered my last bit of strength to lift the straw mat and check for any mechanisms. But it was just ordinary stone bricks. Heh, despair.

Lying on the straw mat, I felt a bit cold, but suffering from hunger and cold, I had no time to care. Conserving energy was the priority.

“Let me sleep a bit…” I slowly closed my eyes, drowsiness washing over me.

…I don’t know how long passed, but I heard footsteps—the metallic *clank-clank* sound that only soldiers in armor could make.

“So sleepy…” My first reaction was drowsiness, and I planned to ‘sleep in,’ so I ignored it. But just as I was about to continue sleeping, I remembered: I wasn’t at home; I had transmigrated. What if I got executed for being negligent!

The fear of death made me immediately sit up, which caused a brief bout of dizziness. My vision went dark, my balance wavered, and I immediately fell to my knees. Then hunger sent signals to my brain; my stomach growled softly. “Ah, so hungry…”

At that moment, the armored soldiers seemed to have arrived at the dungeon to my left. The clanking of armor ceased.

Unknown Person A: “My lord, the humans captured this time are all of top quality, absolutely meeting His Majesty’s standards.” The speaker’s voice was very deep, sounding like it had been modulated by a computer. It resembled the particularly heavy voice of a big boss in a game.

Lord A: “Hmph, we’re just looking for new slaves. What quality?! Use them up and throw them away!” The one who responded was presumably the ‘lord’ mentioned, his voice carrying a greasy feel—probably a fat person.

“Tch, that sounds exactly like the ugly voice of a medieval landlord class.”

Due to hunger, I didn’t stand up; I just leaned against the stone wall of the dungeon.

Unknown Person A: “Yes, yes, yes. This humble one misspoke.” Hearing someone with a boss-like tone say ‘this humble one’ gave me a strong sense of dissonance. And for some reason, I felt very scared. I vaguely felt that the ‘person’ speaking might not be human.

“Open the door!” With Lord A’s command, I heard the click of a key unlocking the iron cage next door.

Then, I heard the sound of armor, but I couldn’t see what was happening next door. Suddenly, there was a woman’s scream. But it didn’t sound like coercion; it seemed more like a scream of fright from seeing something terrifying.

I swallowed a gulp of saliva, mentally reviewing all the scary characters from the horror movies I’d watched, but I still didn’t dare to peek at what was happening.

Immediately after, another woman shouted: “Let me go!” It sounded like she was being grabbed by ‘someone’ and dragged away. I admired how I could still think continuously despite being hungry—it was quite sugar-consuming.

A certain personality: “After all, you often skip meals because of gaming.”

“Hey, now’s not the time to think about that.” Sigh, I continued eavesdropping.

Unknown Person B: “Come! Come with us! You despicable humans!”

Prisoner A: “You monsters!”

Unknown Person B: “Ha! Two days without food and you still have the strength to resist? Die!” As Unknown Person B finished speaking, a loud boom came from next door, like the sound of a flame explosion. I also noticed a blinding light and saw some strange shadows. ‘That’s definitely not a human head!’

Then more screams came from over there—women’s fear, men’s anger.

Unknown Person A: “See that! Foolish humans! Still acting wild! I’ll burn you all to death!” A voice as raging as a barbarian, accompanied by stomping feet. From the clanking of armor, it was clear that the one with the boss-like voice also wore armor.

Maybe out of fear, the screams over there ceased abruptly. Then, the sound of iron chains dragging across the floor came from the adjacent cell. It seemed the people from that dungeon were being led out, still in shackles.

“Oh my god, it really is another world. And why do I feel like I’ve been teleported to a very dangerous place…”

Just then, the first figure appeared before me: a spider demon wearing a suit!

The moment I saw him, he also saw me and asked arrogantly: “Huh? Why is there one locked up separately here?” From his voice, this was the ‘lord’ that Unknown Person A had mentioned.

But his appearance was truly hard for me to accept—it was a giant spider stuck on a human head. I didn’t know what was under the suit, but just that head was enough to make me nauseous. Six bulging orange-red eyes like glass beads, several moving black hairy claws at the back, and a sickle-like mouth with fangs. Tsk, tsk, utterly hideous!

As I was congratulating myself for having an empty stomach and not vomiting, the spider head looked at me and said: “Hmph! Little girl, you see me and aren’t afraid? You’ve got guts!” As he spoke, the sickle fangs at the corners of his mouth kept opening and closing. So disgusting!

‘Actually, I’m just too hungry to make any expressions, heh.’ I thought to myself as I continued staring at the figure outside the cage.

Over there, upon hearing the spider lord’s question, a wolf-headed man stepped forward—oh wait, that’s a werewolf.

“Ah, this?” The werewolf looked at me with a very puzzled expression, as if even he didn’t know why I was locked here. His green-blue eyes stared at me. After a moment’s hesitation, he turned to the lord and apologized: “My apologies, my lord, I don’t know why I grabbed a child.” The deep voice made me realize this was Unknown Person A—so he was a werewolf. No wonder his voice was so low.

At that moment, a figure in a cloak holding a magic staff floated out from behind the werewolf. The hand gripping the staff was like a mummy’s—pitch black, like a skeleton wrapped in skin. Under the hood, the face was completely covered in black mist, making it impossible to tell if it was a human face or a monster’s. Only two ‘eyes’ like small flames glowed in the darkness. Intuition told me this one was extremely dangerous.

While I was sizing up this ‘black mist monster,’ the spider lord’s eyes shifted and he said angrily: “I wanted someone to clean the palace. What use is a little kid?!”

“Uh!” Hearing the lord’s displeasure, the werewolf immediately panicked. His green-blue eyes darted about in fear and unease, completely losing the arrogant and vicious look he had when he saw me. He quickly bowed his head in fear and apologized: “Apologies, my lord, I’ll dispose of her right away.”

With that, the werewolf took out the keys and prepared to open the cell door. I knew that if I didn’t say something quickly, I would definitely be GG. So without thinking, I argued: “Hey! Who says a kid can’t work? Also, I’m a guy!” I knew it was risky to speak rashly, and what I said wasn’t the best, but at this moment, if I didn’t say something, I would be dead for sure.

‘This guy might come in and burn me to death. Wait, “dispose of” could have other meanings. After all, these are non-human creatures… using humans as ingredients isn’t impossible.’ For a moment, my own thoughts made me break out in a cold sweat. But at least I had said ‘I can work,’ which was better than staying silent.

Right after I widened my eyes and said ‘I can work,’ that black mist monster really became like a mist—suddenly! It passed directly through the bars and floated in front of me. In that dark hood, two fiery red eyes stared at me.
