Join the ServerFirst, from a personal interest perspective, if I went down, I’d probably get tortured.
And if I didn’t? Looking at Kong Yingcai’s attitude, he probably wouldn’t compromise.
So the result would be either a fight or a stalemate.
If it dragged on, with a bunch of soldiers blocking the inner city gate, eventually someone would come to mediate.
And then? Even if the general didn’t send me out, the ‘peacemakers’ who arrived later would.
They might even help the prime minister speak, since officials in court would suck up to a powerful minister, not a general who was always on campaign.
In other words, I was definitely going to be caught today. MMP!
So the conclusion was: if I didn’t jump down now, it might trigger a conflict between civil and military officials, and in the end, the general might be implicated, charged with ‘colluding with vampires.’ That would be a huge loss.
Then… as a man of honor, I had to show my loyalty! The big brother had already helped me escape Demon City. As a brother, I couldn’t drag him down!
‘Well said!’ some personality mocked me.
It only took me three seconds to think this through. By then, General Yun’s anger had subsided quite a bit, probably because Yi Qin had used some magic.
I jumped straight off the horse. I put on a scared expression, hands on my chest, fingers intertwined, looking especially pitiful and helpless.
“Fine, I’ll go with you. General Yun, thank you for saving me.” I deliberately put on a sad face and spoke in a plaintive tone.
Of course, it wasn’t entirely an act. I really was a bit sad, sad for my own plight.
Ah… despair. They said earlier they’d treat me well… If they really took me for a vampire, wouldn’t they use crosses and wooden stakes on me?
Ahh, I’m going to die again. Die, die.
“Yo, this little girl is pretty good, more sensible than some young people.” Kong Yingcai had the smug look of a winner. I wanted to punch him.
But on the surface, I kept up the scared act.
The general suddenly said, “Jiushi! Why did you come down?” “Hehe…” Before I could explain, I felt a powerful force grab me!
[At this moment, Kong Yingcai quietly made a gesture behind his back.] [Then a mage among the guards conjured a cage, swung his staff, and flung Jiushi straight into it.] [Then, with a clang, the cage door slammed shut.]
“Ah!” I cried out in pain. I had no idea what happened before I was stuffed into a cage plastered with talismans.
“Meow meow meow? What happened? Me? Luckily my head is sturdy…”
But then a wave of dizziness hit me. I touched the back of my head and felt it.
“Ahh… I hit my head again…”
I felt the cage shake quickly, and then Kong Yingcai said arrogantly, “Carry it away!” and I passed out completely.
[Jiushi fainted, and two guards carried the cage away.] [Meanwhile, General Yun saw the silver hair at the back of Jiushi’s head stained with blood. He hurried after them.]
“Kong Yingcai, are you crazy? Want to kill someone? How can you treat a child like that?” “Oh? A child? Did I hear that right? You call a vampire a child? Don’t you know vampires’ appearances are all fake?” “I don’t have time to argue with you. Anyway, I caught this person, so I have the right to participate in the interrogation. Get out of the way!” [General Yun used a Qi-charged dash, blowing away several guards blocking his path. The cage was also lifted by the airwave.] [He followed with a single slash, cutting open the magic cage, leaped to catch the unconscious Jiushi, and immediately began healing.] [The broken cage crashed to the ground. All the guards trembled in fear.]
Prime Minister: “General Yun, what are you doing?” “Saving a life! A human life!” Yun Feibai squinted and smiled.
[That smile alone could be considered a threat.]
“You?! Fine, then, General, please!” Kong Yingcai was speechless, fuming.
Then the general said to Yi Qin, “Marquis Yi Qin, I entrust my army to you.” “Oh, okay. Once I finish lunch, I’ll come find you guys to play.” Yi Qin replied.
[Over there, Yi Qin led the unicorn horse and the sweat-blood horse, commanding the soldiers as they left.] [Meanwhile, Jiushi and the others were taken to a very old-fashioned interrogation room in the palace.]
My head hurt a little. I forced my eyes open.
‘Quick self-check, recall recent fragments… Done.’
I slowly opened my eyes and found the gauze covering them had been removed. In front of me was a large square table carved from rosewood. Behind it sat Kong Yingcai, and beside him sat General Yun Feibai.
‘General Feibai? Why is he here?’
‘What else? To protect you,’ some personality interjected.
‘For someone I’ve known less than 24 hours, why would he do this…’
‘Could big brother be gay? Haha.’ I joked to myself, but I couldn’t deny that seeing the general eased my anxiety.
The room I was in was warmly decorated, with an antique feel. Though it wasn’t as ornate as Demon City, it unexpectedly calmed my mind.
I moved my hands and feet slightly. As expected, they were cuffed.
“Mm–” I made a pitiful, submissive face, and tears immediately hung in the corners of my eyes.
I breathed a sigh of relief inwardly: ‘Ah, this treatment isn’t too bad. At least there are no torture instruments! At least there are people in front of me! And this environment is great!’
“Name.” The prime minister was unmoved by my cute act.
Tsk. Sure enough, no matter what world, there are always people without pity.
“Jiushi. Heh–” I let out a long sigh, my expression turning disdainful.
‘Anyway, at worst I’ll die. What have I got to worry about?’
“Your real name.” The prime minister tapped the table.
I wasn’t startled by his action.
“I lost my memory, I don’t know. Jiushi is the name I had as a s*ave.” I sat there, slightly tilting my head back, speaking coldly, looking the prime minister in the eye without fear.
I was accusing him with my eyes: ‘You’re falsely accusing an innocent person. Aren’t you ashamed?’ Anyway, I wasn’t afraid now. I’d died before!
“Oh~ Then okay. How old are you?” Kong Yingcai was clearly annoyed by my attitude, but he didn’t dare meet my eyes.
‘Hmm, nice! This might be turning the tables!’
“Nine years old, I guess.” I still spoke with righteous indignation.
“Jiushi, nine years old, ah, nine! You? Are you kidding me?” He slapped the table again!
