Chapter 45: The Faceless Butcher’s Riddle and a Dangerous Test

After hearing my sister describe her ability, I couldn’t help but connect her with the Faceless Butcher.

The more I thought about it, the more plausible it seemed, as all the conditions matched perfectly.

These were secondary concerns, however. The main question was: why hadn’t the Faceless Butcher, who had slaughtered everyone else at the time, killed me?

After all, back then, if they had just waited a few more minutes, my ability would have collapsed on its own.

Yet, the Faceless Butcher not only spared me but fled in disarray, not even bothering to take the Enhancement Fruit from the tree.

An Enhancement Fruit could permanently boost an ability by 5%. The fact that such a potent item was left behind was what had always troubled me.

Still, it was too early to draw any conclusions.

I needed my sister to demonstrate her ability before I could determine if she was indeed the Faceless Butcher.

But if my sister truly was the Faceless Butcher, her ability would be far too formidable!

Using it on me, or even on herself, would be incredibly unwise.

As for using it on zombies… before my rebirth, I had never heard of the Faceless Butcher being able to tear zombies limb from limb.

“Someone save us!”

“Don’t you dare pull my pants, my butt’s showing!”

Just as I was contemplating how to test my sister’s ability, a chaotic clamor suddenly erupted from outside the window.

I turned my head, casting my gaze in that direction. When I saw the three individuals still clinging to the tree, my eyes suddenly lit up, and I knew exactly what to do!

There were perfectly good test subjects right before me, yet I had been racking my brain for so long.

What a foolish oversight…

“Sister, listen to me. Since we don’t know what your ability is, we need to test it now.”

“How do we test it?”

Hearing her curious question, I met her puzzled gaze and directly reached out to pull open the window.

Then, pointing to the three people in the tree, a faint smile played on my lips.

“Those guys. Target them, and use your ability!”

“Okay!”

My sister didn’t overthink it after I spoke. With excitement on her face, she rubbed her hands together, looking at the three people in the tree outside the window, eager to discover what her ability truly was.

I watched her with indulgence, not proactively revealing my suspicions.

Silently, I shifted my gaze to the three individuals in the tree, and the smile on my face slowly turned cold.

‘Let all the bloody deeds be mine. Let all the sins be laid upon my shoulders!’

“Brother, how do I use my ability now?”

“Look at one of them. Recall what you saw in the ability demonstration video. Then, using your consciousness, unleash your ability on the chosen target.”

“Alright, I’ll try.”

After answering me, my sister first closed her eyes, thinking silently for a moment. Then, she abruptly opened them and began to use her ability on one of the people in the tree.

The moment her ability activated, a strong white light enveloped her entire body.

Her hair stirred without a breeze as the white light appeared, and her body stood firm like a rock.

She extended a hand, and the white light emanating from her palm gradually condensed into a ball, which then shot towards one of the individuals in the tree.

“Oh my god! Superpowers!”

“Big brother, quick, dodge!”

“Ah! I’m going to die!”

The anomaly from my sister’s side had clearly been discovered by the three people in the tree.

Especially after the white light emitted from her palm, the three on the tree screamed even louder, seemingly unable to believe what they were seeing.

Unfortunately, the three in the tree could only scream. Unable to move, they watched as my sister’s white light accurately struck one of them.

I stared intently at the person who was hit, eager to see if their body would be torn limb from limb.

But alas, after my sister’s ability struck him, nothing happened.

“Huh? I’m fine? Hahaha, was that just a magic trick?”

“Tsk, you trash across there, come at me head-on if you dare.”

“Exactly, exactly, playing dirty tricks, how shameless.”

I watched the three of them expressionlessly, then directly reached out and closed the window.

Turning to see the dejected expression on my sister’s face, I pondered for a moment, then retrieved a dagger from my spatial storage.

“Brother, why are you suddenly taking out a knife? Are you going to throw it out and stab those three people outside?”

Ignoring my sister’s question, I tossed the dagger into the air. After it spun a few times and fell, I gripped its hilt once more.

Then, I plunged it fiercely into my right arm, and blood immediately gushed out.

“Ah! Brother, what are you doing????”

“You only have one chance. Now, use your ability on my arm.”

Although I had brutally cut myself, my expression remained unchanged. I simply opened my mouth and told my sister to use her ability on my arm right away.

“I… okay, I’ll use it now.”

Having already used her ability once, my sister, with practiced ease, summoned the white light from her palm and quickly threw it onto my injured right arm.

The white orb rushed to my arm, instantly merging into the wound.

Moments later, my wound began to slowly recover.

Before long, the wound completely vanished.
