Join the ServerLin Qing’s voice was not loud, but it ignited an explosive reaction among the students.
“Did I hear that right? Lin Qing said Liu Ying is sick?”
“You heard right, I heard it too!”
“Haha, what a bizarre turn of events. I thought Lin Qing would just say yes. After all, Liu Ying is so pretty now; having her as a girlfriend would be a great deal.”
“So much for a sweet campus romance. How did it turn into this ‘she’s sick’ situation?”
The students of Class Six, watching the scene unfold with one of them standing and the other seated, couldn’t help but start chattering. Their faces were alight with the thrill of the drama, fascinated by this incredible development.
However, while the other students were oblivious to the full story, Zhou Lin and Wang Jian, who knew the tangled details, exchanged a look. Shock was mirrored in both their eyes.
Xiao Yu was Liu Ying, and Liu Ying was Xiao Yu?
Oh my god!
What kind of crazy twist was this?
Could makeup really change a person so much that they were completely unrecognizable?
Wait!
This wasn’t the time to marvel at the magic of makeup. The real question was, what would Brother Liu do?
Their Brother Liu, who had fallen for Xiao Yu at first sight, now had to watch her confess to Lin Qing.
And in front of the entire class, no less.
But now, Xiao Yu—Liu Ying—had been brutally rejected and publicly humiliated by Lin Qing. Would Brother Liu impulsively rush to her defense, thereby breaking ties with Lin Qing?
It was said that brothers were like limbs and women were like clothes, but for Brother Liu, it was often the other way around.
He would do anything for a woman.
If that happened, it would be a disaster. If Brother Liu defied Lin Qing for Xiao Yu’s sake, he would absolutely regret it later.
Even if Zhou Lin and Wang Jian didn’t know why Liu Hong was so attached to Lin Qing, they knew that Liu Ying, who had deliberately hidden her identity, was definitely bad news.
Comparing Lin Qing and Liu Ying, the winner was obvious in an instant.
The two of them cast their votes for Lin Qing without hesitation.
Lost in these thoughts, Zhou Lin and Wang Jian shot worried glances at Liu Hong, praying that their brother wouldn’t do anything rash.
Receiving the looks from his two underlings, Liu Hong was indeed torn, but he wasn’t about to act impulsively as they feared.
As much as he liked Xiao Yu, he cherished his relationship with Lin Qing even more.
Heaven knew how much effort it had taken just to get a little closer to him.
Still, seeing the wounded look on Xiao Yu’s face as she bit her lip, he couldn’t bear it.
He wanted to take her and leave the classroom, to escape the malicious stares of their classmates.
Even though Xiao Yu had hidden her identity as Liu Ying, Liu Hong didn’t want to dwell on it now. He just wanted to resolve this crisis as quickly as possible.
‘But Lin Qing was way too blunt,’ he thought. ‘Liu Ying was just confessing. Why did he have to say she was sick? That’s so damaging to a girl’s pride.’
“Lin Qing, why would you say that? I just like you!”
As the class watched, Liu Ying, who had been frozen in place by Lin Qing’s words, quickly recovered. Her face filled with sorrow, and her eyes reddened. She gazed at Lin Qing, unable to hide her affection. Her face, made beautiful by makeup, was no longer plain as it once was. Her current aggrieved expression held a certain pitiful charm.
Her appearance garnered sympathy from many, who felt that Liu Ying hadn’t done anything wrong.
What was so wrong with pursuing love?
Unfortunately, she had given her heart to the wrong person.
Faced with a beautiful girl on the verge of tears, this Lin Qing truly had a heart of stone.
“I don’t like you. If you’re sick, go to a hospital. Don’t come to me.”
But what shocked the students even more was what came next. Lin Qing spoke with a tone of utter disgust, looking as if Liu Ying were nothing more than an annoying fly.
In fact, Lin Qing did find her incredibly annoying.
When he said Liu Ying was sick, he had meant it literally. A mental illness.
Through his recent interactions with her, Lin Qing had discovered that Liu Ying’s mental state was extremely poor.
When not triggered, she seemed perfectly normal.
But once provoked, she would become hysterical.
Although Lin Qing had never paid special attention to his classmates before, he had seen Liu Ying a few times in the past. Back then, she had seemed perfectly fine, without any of these issues.
Of course, perhaps he just hadn’t been around her enough to notice. But Lin Qing suspected Liu Ying’s sudden change might be related to the increase in the number of white skulls above her head.
Suddenly gaining two extra white skulls was immense pressure for a normal person. From the moment of birth, the number of skulls above one’s head was fixed; it couldn’t be altered for any reason. It was like a small fishbowl designed for one fish suddenly having three crammed into it. Not only would water splash everywhere, but the three fish in the cramped space would also collide and fight, creating chaos.
The sudden increase in the number of skulls had triggered a series of changes within her.
Lin Qing planned to go home and jot down these speculations in his notebook, hoping to find a definitive answer later to prove his theory correct.
As for Liu Ying’s heartfelt confession, Lin Qing had no intention of comforting her. Instead, he wanted to provoke her further.
The angrier and more agitated Liu Ying became, the more flaws she would reveal.
It would be a good opportunity to carefully observe the changes in the skulls above her head.
“Lin Qing, why don’t you like me? We’re a match made in heaven, the perfect couple!”
Upon hearing Lin Qing’s blunt rejection, Liu Ying didn’t cover her face in shame and run away crying. It was as if a switch had been flipped. She slammed her hands down on the edge of Lin Qing’s desk with a loud *smack*.
Her eyes were locked on his.
Despite the cheesy words, Liu Ying’s expression was dead serious, with no hint of a joke.
It was as if she and Lin Qing truly were a flawless pair.
Her words reached the ears of the other students, and some couldn’t help but snicker and whisper amongst themselves.
“Is she trying to force herself on him now?”
“If I were her, I’d be too ashamed to stay here. But she’s still fighting. That’s impressive!”
“What’s so great about a gloomy guy like Lin Qing? If Liu Ying confessed to me, I’d be over the moon.”
“Oh, please. We’ve been in the same class for so long, and I’ve never seen you say more than a few words to her.”
The gossip escalated as the tension between Lin Qing and Liu Ying thickened. Liu Hong, watching from the side, could no longer bear it and decided to step in to prevent things from getting worse.
With Lin Qing on one side and Xiao Yu on the other, Liu Hong was torn no matter who he chose.
He decided to just try and get them both to calm down first, to solve the immediate problem.
*Sigh.*
He had seen pathetic situations before, but none as pathetic as his own.
The girl he had a secret crush on was being rejected, and now he had to play mediator.
Was he really just a simp?
A simp who would end up with nothing.
Just as Liu Hong lifted his foot to take a step toward Lin Qing’s desk, an unignorable, icy gaze shot in his direction.
Even without looking back, Liu Hong knew it was Su Yao’s death stare.
Normally, a look like that from Su Yao would have sent him shrinking back in terror.
But not this time!
He had to stop things from getting worse!
With these thoughts, Liu Hong steeled himself. Even if Su Yao dismembered him later, he couldn’t just stand by and watch.
Unless Su Yao herself stepped forward to stop him, he would not be deterred!
Firm in his resolve, Liu Hong kept moving. But Su Yao neither spoke nor moved; she simply remained where she was.
She watched him coolly, her gaze fixed on him, unblinking.
Her dark eyes were filled with a thick black mist, like a bitter wind sweeping across a snowy mountaintop.
It made Liu Hong’s steps, which had started out light, grow heavier and heavier until he was forced to a halt, completely drained of strength.
Without a doubt, Liu Hong had lost.
Even though he had prepared himself, Su Yao’s relentless stare brought back memories of the slaughterhouse, making him feel as if he were nailed to the floor, unable to lift his feet.
He remembered Su Yao, covered in blood, an unnervingly excited smile on her face as she casually brandished a dagger, her eyes glinting with madness.
It was as if killing was a trivial matter to her.
In her eyes, human life was as worthless as grass.
It was just for her amusement.
Su Yao was terrifying!
The enemy was too powerful. He had tried his best.
Yielding in just a few seconds, Liu Hong obediently sat back down in his seat.
All he could do now was worry for Xiao Yu in his heart.
“Why should I like you? Liu Ying, if you keep this up, you’ll only embarrass yourself more. No matter how many times you say it, I will never like you.”
Lin Qing answered Liu Ying’s question calmly.
He had been going back and forth with her for a while now, and since nothing was changing, he was growing tired of it.
He had wanted to observe the skulls above her head, but after staring for a while, only the first one showed any rage. The other two remained perfectly still.
They were like decorations.
This made Lin Qing realize that continuing this would yield nothing more.
As for the enraged Liu Ying…
You can never wake a person who is pretending to be asleep.
Right now, Liu Ying was that person.
He didn’t know why she was so insanely obsessed with him. Was she truly seeing herself through him, fulfilling some kind of desire? Was that why she clung to him so tightly, willing to deceive even herself?
Whatever the reason, Lin Qing had no desire to play along. This boring drama could end now.
“Lin Qing, I know why you don’t like me! It’s all because of Su Yao!”
But clearly, Liu Ying wasn’t ready to let it end.
Seeing Lin Qing’s indifferent attitude, the flames of rejection-fueled anger burned brightly within her.
If she hadn’t taken a liking to him, how could he act so arrogantly?
How dare he humiliate her to her face!
Damn him!
When Lin Qing heard Liu Ying mention Su Yao, his heart skipped a beat. A bad feeling suddenly washed over him.
“So what if you and Su Yao are a couple? Will she love you forever? The only one who will love you forever and ever is me!”
“Oh? I’m Lin Qing’s girlfriend?”
And then, the worst-case scenario unfolded, as Su Yao chimed in with a voice full of intrigue.
