Chapter 144: The Enigma of Bai Lengleng and Liu Ying’s Descent

Suddenly, hearing the name Bai Lengleng from Lin Qing’s lips, Liu Ying’s smile instantly froze, and her eyes involuntarily widened. She hadn’t uttered a single word.

Lin Qing shouldn’t have known!

From what she had witnessed that night, Bai Lengleng killed without batting an eye. If she had encountered Lin Qing, she would have ruthlessly taken his life without a second thought.

Therefore, it was impossible for Lin Qing to know the name Bai Lengleng and still be standing before her, alive and well.

“Don’t assume you’re the only one who knows.”

Seeing Liu Ying’s utterly shocked expression, Lin Qing’s lips curved into a slight smile. His gaze, devoid of any emotion, fixed on Liu Ying as if she were a complete stranger.

Initially, Lin Qing had only been guessing. Now, observing Liu Ying’s reaction, he knew his suspicions were correct.

The young girl, Bai Lengleng, who had just appeared downstairs by the teaching building, was clearly no ordinary person. However, he still had no idea what her true identity was, or why she would want to kill him.

Recalling the skull symbol above Bai Lengleng’s head, Lin Qing couldn’t help but frown. He found Bai Lengleng utterly contradictory, an enigma impossible to decipher.

“Lin Qing, I love you! Why don’t you understand?”

Realizing Lin Qing already knew about Bai Lengleng, Liu Ying’s final trump cards were all spent.

This prompted her to continue her erratic, loud declarations. She then raised her hands to cover her face, sobbing uncontrollably. Tears mingled with blood, creating a grotesque and terrifying sight.

“Holy hell, I initially thought Liu Ying had just taken the wrong medicine. But now, it’s clear she’s completely insane!”

With the police controlling Liu Ying’s movements, there was no need to worry about her. Liu Hong, his face etched with frustration, let go of his injured arm and walked over to Lin Qing and Su Yao, all the while muttering complaints.

Lin Qing wondered if he had been an unforgivable scoundrel in a past life. Why else would his romantic path in this life be so arduous?

Su Yao, the first person he had ever liked, turned out to be a murderous psychopath.

Then there was Liu Ying, the second person he’d developed feelings for, a mentally unstable escort.

They say bad things come in threes, but he no longer had the strength to love again.

He was exhausted.

Life, it seemed, was truly this difficult.

“Although I haven’t been at this school for very long, when I encountered Liu Ying before, she wasn’t this hysterical. Even if she were hiding something, there would have been subtle clues, but Liu Ying showed no such signs.”

After hearing Liu Hong’s words, Lin Qing shook his head. He didn’t believe Liu Ying was simply mentally ill.

While her past actions and behavior certainly suggested she was unstable, he felt there was more to it.

Her sudden transformation was far from normal.

How could a perfectly normal person suddenly devolve into this state in such a short span of time?

Lin Qing immediately thought of the increasing number of skulls above Liu Ying’s head.

Perhaps the sudden surge in skull count had created immense pressure, causing Liu Ying’s entire being to rapidly unravel.

To others, she simply appeared to have gone mad.

But what exactly had Liu Ying come into contact with that would cause the number of skulls to suddenly multiply?

Lin Qing had never witnessed a similar instance.

The increase in skulls above Liu Ying’s head was the first case he had ever seen!

“Lin Qing, you’re too naive! How could a mentally ill person expose themselves? Su— *cough, cough* — Just look at the scratch marks on my hand, and you’ll know she’s truly sick!”

Liu Hong disagreed with Lin Qing’s assessment. However, just as he was about to use Su Yao as an example, he met her gaze and instantly changed his tune.

Regardless, no normal person could shed their facade and become so utterly, irrationally mad, as Liu Ying had.

“Oh, right, Lin Qing. Liu Ying found out about our last trip to the factory.”

Liu Hong suddenly recalled something he’d just heard and immediately leaned closer to Lin Qing, whispering.

With the police present, Liu Hong couldn’t shout. He could only offer a brief explanation as best as he could.

Even with a concise explanation, Lin Qing would surely grasp the events the three of them had personally experienced.

“She was muttering about Haozi being dead, the one who was caught stealing dogs before.”

As Lin Qing listened to Liu Hong’s additional details, his confusion about why Liu Ying claimed Bai Lengleng would kill him began to clear. He now had a general idea.

He had gathered enough clues to connect them and deduce the truth.

Bai Lengleng was the new recruit sent by the Shadow Organization.

After Chen Sen, a member of the organization operating within Lian City, went missing, a new recruit was dispatched by the Shadow Organization to take his place.

Naturally, Bai Lengleng began a thorough investigation into the slaughterhouse incident, which inevitably led her to him.

After all, Wang Fanran had always believed that his miserable fate was entirely due to his deskmate, Lin Qing.

Thus, even after joining Chen Sen’s dog-stealing syndicate, he never forgot his desire for revenge against Lin Qing.

He specifically chose to steal dogs from Lin Qing’s residential area, always poised to exact his retribution.

Wang Fanran had made no secret of his plans for revenge, so many people knew about it. Even after the slaughterhouse was burned down, there were still survivors.

For instance, Haozi, one of his accomplices in the dog theft.

At this point, Lin Qing immediately understood Bai Lengleng’s identity without needing anyone else to tell him.

Bai Lengleng held a significant position within the Shadow Organization. Why, then, would she choose to proactively approach him?

Yet, she was capable of taking over Chen Sen’s position.

And then there were the skulls above Bai Lengleng’s head…

Pondering these thoughts, Lin Qing shook his head, a headache beginning to throb.

Not only did Lin Qing now understand Bai Lengleng’s identity, but Su Yao, standing nearby, instantly grasped the situation after hearing Liu Hong’s words.

Unlike Lin Qing, who had been speculating based on the skulls, Su Yao possessed a much more comprehensive understanding of the information.

In fact, there were even things Lin Qing didn’t know.

For instance, Lin Qing and Liu Hong had always believed Chen Sen was merely missing. However, according to the reports Su Yao had received, Chen Sen was likely already dead.

Previously, to prevent the Shadow Organization from tracking Lin Qing, Su Yao had made specific arrangements. She intended to put some pressure on Chen Sen, making him stop pursuing Lin Qing.

Though she desperately wanted to kill Chen Sen directly, Su Yao faced the risk of exposure.

If she were to act rashly, with so many eyes on her, Su Yao risked revealing herself.

Yet, before Su Yao could even begin to deal with Chen Sen, something had already happened to him.

He had vanished.

Chen Sen had not checked out of his hotel. When the surveillance footage was reviewed, it showed him secretly leaving the hotel with a black satchel, his destination unknown.

Intriguingly, after Chen Sen’s disappearance, a lost-and-found notice for a black satchel appeared in Lin Qing’s residential area.

Its appearance and brand were identical to the satchel Chen Sen was seen carrying in the surveillance footage.

Even down to the smallest scratches, they matched perfectly.

While nothing useful was found inside, it proved that Chen Sen had sought out Lin Qing before his disappearance.

Given Chen Sen’s personality, he wouldn’t have simply glanced and left. He would undoubtedly have done something to Lin Qing.

And yet, Lin Qing was unharmed.

He hadn’t even met Chen Sen…

In Su Yao’s estimation, the chances of Chen Sen leaving voluntarily were slim. It was far more likely he had been taken by someone else. Besides the Shadow Organization, another mysterious group was also watching this area.

Whether they were observing Chen Sen or Lin Qing remained uncertain.

With the new recruit from the Shadow Organization actively approaching, the hypothesis that Chen Sen was taken by them didn’t hold.

That left only the mysterious individuals…

As these thoughts swirled, Su Yao quietly glanced at Lin Qing, hoping she was merely overthinking things.

“Students, I sincerely apologize for involving you in this incident. Aside from Liu Hong, who needs to provide a statement, the other two students are free to leave.”

Seeing Liu Ying’s uncontrollable state, the police officer addressed Lin Qing and Su Yao with an apologetic expression.

Upon hearing that Lin Qing was about to leave, Liu Ying’s struggles intensified. Her eyes wide, she stared at Lin Qing, uttering incomprehensible sounds, and forcefully raised her hands to clutch her head.

It was evident that Liu Ying’s entire being was abnormal.

Just by looking, one could tell her mental state was severely disturbed.

“Lin Qing, my perfect partner, don’t leave! You’re mine, all mine!”

Even now, Liu Ying remained lost in her own delusions, unwilling to return to reality.

Lin Qing looked in Liu Ying’s direction, not at her face, but up at the top of her head.

Among the three white skulls, only one was roaring frantically. The other two white skulls remained motionless, simply serving as decorations as they always had.

Even as Liu Ying’s mental state steadily approached collapse, the two additional white skulls showed no change whatsoever.

His initial concerns, it seemed, had been misplaced.

The increase in skulls above Liu Ying’s head had not triggered a murderous impulse, but rather, had led to more severe psychological issues.

If this continued, it would only be a matter of time before Liu Ying truly became insane.

“How could he be yours?”

While Lin Qing was silently pondering the mystery of the skulls, Su Yao observed Liu Ying’s manic state. A corner of her mouth curved up in amusement, and without any hesitation, she directly wrapped her arm around Lin Qing’s neck.

Then, as Liu Ying glared intensely at them, Su Yao, with a hint of triumph, pressed herself close to Lin Qing’s cheek and gave a loud, audible kiss.

“He’s mine.”

This blatant act of provocation, catching Liu Ying’s eye, made her shriek aloud.

Witnessing this, Liu Hong, standing nearby, was already accustomed to such antics. He knew Su Yao’s true nature was quite mischievous.

Moreover, he had already seen them kiss at the arcade earlier.

A mere kiss on the cheek now was hardly surprising!

The police officer observing realized that keeping Lin Qing and Su Yao there would only further agitate the victim. It was best to escort them out quickly.

Meanwhile, the school administrators, who were assisting the Principal, had a profound impression of Su Yao, the sole daughter of a powerful conglomerate. Seeing her interact so intimately with the boy named Lin Qing, they immediately showed surprised expressions.

To be favored by the daughter of a conglomerate—this young man was truly fortunate!

Regardless of whether their relationship blossomed, it was an enviable experience.

“Medicine, give me medicine, I need to take my medicine!”

As Lin Qing nodded to the police officer and led Su Yao towards the rooftop exit, Liu Ying suddenly cried out from behind them, frantically demanding her medicine.
