Join the ServerSuddenly hearing Liu Hong’s shout, Lin Qing froze.
He then turned his head, looking towards the source of the sound.
There, the trio of Liu Hong, Zhou Lin, and Wang Jian were huddled together, with Liu Hong himself seated at his desk.
His expression, as he spoke, was utterly indifferent, a stark contrast to the reluctance he had shown just two days prior.
Already, many students had arrived for morning self-study. Upon hearing Liu Hong furiously call out Lin Qing’s name, they instinctively buried their heads in their textbooks, hoping to diminish their presence.
‘This damn school!’
‘Why are there always these delinquents around?’
‘We just want to study in peace, but they never let up.’
‘It just proves that we should have studied harder in junior high, so we wouldn’t end up in such a terrible high school.’
Yet, beyond those who resented the delinquents for disrupting their studies, there were others who relished in drama.
They sat at their desks, craning their necks towards Lin Qing, their eyes darting with curiosity.
They wondered how this transfer student, who usually went unnoticed in class, would be dealt with by Liu Hong.
It was widely known that Liu Hong’s nickname at school was ‘Mad Dog’ – the kind who latched on and never let go.
One simply did not cross Liu Hong.
Many had previously sought out Liu Hong, either arrogantly or obsequiously, drawn by his formidable reputation.
They hoped to befriend him, to rise through the ranks of high school together, and perhaps even form a powerful campus gang, raking in a fortune from protection fees alone.
Alas, before they could even voice their propositions, Liu Hong had beaten them beyond recognition.
The reason? Simply because they looked ‘wretched’ – clearly not good people in his eyes.
****
Ahem.
Considering Zhou Lin and Wang Jian’s handsome features, and Liu Hong’s own respectable looks, it was clear.
And then there was Su Yao, the beautiful school belle whom Liu Hong secretly adored.
Liu Hong was undeniably a ‘looks-first’ kind of guy.
But why was Liu Hong bothering Lin Qing?
Every incident had its cause, and Liu Hong’s anger towards Lin Qing was no exception.
Just last week, before the weekend holiday, Liu Hong had been exceptionally kind to Lin Qing, running errands for him with great enthusiasm.
Logically, he shouldn’t be this angry now.
However, word had it that Lin Qing and Su Yao had been seen together, outside of school, in what appeared to be an intimate interaction.
This, reportedly, had infuriated Liu Hong, for everyone in the school knew of his feelings for Su Yao.
Even accidentally brushing against Su Yao would earn someone a brutal beating from Liu Hong the next day.
Lin Qing was truly in for it this time!
Recalling Lin Qing’s previous episode in the classroom, some students silently prayed that Liu Hong would go easy on him, lest he accidentally kill him.
That would be disastrous. For students like them, who hadn’t even graduated, their entire lives would be ruined.
If such news broke out at school, they, as ungraduated students, would be the first to suffer the repercussions.
Their school would be branded as a ‘shoddy high school,’ and they would face endless gossip and judgment.
“What is it?”
In stark contrast to the anxious spectators, Lin Qing calmly walked to his seat.
He looked down at Liu Hong, who was occupying his chair, his gaze composed.
As Lin Qing spoke, the students watching were utterly dumbfounded, wondering just how much nerve he possessed.
Facing imminent doom, he dared to speak to Liu Hong in such a manner. Did he truly believe himself indestructible?
Just as his classmates were collectively holding their breath for Lin Qing, he observed Liu Hong’s flushed complexion, devoid of his previous weakness.
The last time Lin Hong had seen him, he was in a pathetic and miserable state.
Now, having cleaned himself up, he looked much like his usual self, save for the bandage wrapped around the arm that had been bitten by a dog.
This served as proof that their visit to the slaughterhouse that day had been a real event, not some fleeting illusion.
“On Saturday, you told me to text you to let you know I was safe, but I don’t even have your phone number!”
Upon seeing Lin Qing finally arrive, Liu Hong could no longer contain himself and erupted!
Heaven knew.
After returning home, Liu Hong had nervously recounted the slaughterhouse incident to his elders, earning him a scolding.
However, his family had also informed him that they would help handle the aftermath.
Relieved, Liu Hong had put his worries aside and, in high spirits, decided to send Lin Qing a message – perhaps even to playfully tease him.
Suddenly, Liu Hong realized he didn’t have Lin Qing’s phone number!
‘How was he supposed to send a message then?’
‘How could he report his safety?’
‘Could Lin Qing have just been making polite conversation?’
‘No way! No way! No way!’
‘Lin Qing wouldn’t do that to him, would he? They were like brothers, born of different parents, who had faced life and death together!’
Feeling dejected, Liu Hong then called his subordinates, hoping to get Lin Qing’s number from them.
To his dismay, not a single one knew it.
This, surprisingly, alleviated some of his frustration, as he realized he wasn’t the only one in the dark.
His mind found a semblance of balance.
However, recalling the ambiguous atmosphere between Lin Qing and Su Yao, Liu Hong ultimately couldn’t resist.
He dialed Su Yao’s phone number.
Though he had never called her since obtaining her number, he kept it at the top of his contacts, often gazing at the note ‘Su Yao, Little Angel’ and grinning foolishly to himself.
Now, looking at that note, Liu Hong felt as if his past self had been utterly deluded.
‘Little angel indeed… more like a devil.’
While waiting for Su Yao to answer, Liu Hong hastily changed the note to avoid further vexation.
He had considered ‘Devil,’ but knowing Zhou Lin and Wang Jian enjoyed playing with his phone, he decided against anything too conspicuous.
To avoid drawing attention, Liu Hong dutifully changed it to ‘Su Yao,’ removing her from the top of his contacts.
But why hadn’t anyone answered after so long?
It was only after repeatedly dialing Su Yao’s number without a response that Liu Hong belatedly realized he had been blocked!
He regretted making the call at all.
Thus, unable to find Lin Qing’s phone number, Liu Hong entered a state of melancholy, akin to being ‘cloud-depressed’ online.
He had impulsively considered going to Lin Qing’s residential area to find him, but then remembered he had no idea which building Lin Qing lived in.
While Liu Hong and Zhou Lin had been discussing their plan to go to the abandoned slaughterhouse to apprehend Wang Fanran, Lin Qing and Su Yao had actually gone home.
At the time, Liu Hong had felt too guilty from mistakenly hitting Lin Qing, so he’d nervously waited in place.
He now realized, with dread, that he should have shamelessly followed them.
And so, after more than a day of Liu Hong’s ‘online depression,’ his frustration finally erupted on Monday!
Everyone had expected Liu Hong to unleash his fists upon Lin Qing, staging a live performance of campus bullying.
However, witnessing Liu Hong’s aggrieved and pitiful expression now, the students wondered if they hadn’t fully woken up that morning.
Was this some kind of ridiculous dream? They must still be asleep!
Standing beside them, Zhou Lin and Wang Jian also wore expressions of utter mortification as they watched Liu Hong.
Zhou Lin immediately raised a hand to cover his face, seized by an urge to make a swift escape.
At this moment, it was incredibly embarrassing!
Though both of them had long learned from Liu Hong that Lin Qing had risked his life to save him during the danger at the slaughterhouse, and that they were no longer to trouble Lin Qing.
Liu Hong had even warned that if he ever discovered anyone being disrespectful to Lin Qing, they shouldn’t expect his fists to be merciful.
Seeing the earnest expression on Liu Hong’s face, Zhou Lin and Wang Jian naturally said nothing more, simply nodding in understanding.
Brother Liu was incredibly loyal to his own.
Others who didn’t know him only saw him as the ‘Mad Dog’ of the school.
They were unaware that he was merely a big, goofy softy.
His fondness for fighting stemmed from the fact that his family had only ever taught him such things, and Liu Hong had simply followed suit, drifting with the current.
He had gradually become the school’s problem student, an existence akin to a small-time delinquent.
However, the last person he had beaten into the hospital was for slandering Su Yao behind her back.
Liu Hong, who regarded Su Yao as his goddess, had been utterly unstoppable upon hearing those words, charging straight over to deliver a brutal beating.
Afterward, the other party’s parents had come seeking an apology from Liu Hong.
Negotiations had broken down, and rumors soon spread that Liu Hong had beaten someone into the hospital and refused to relent.
Liu Hong, for his part, hadn’t cared in the slightest; instead, he found it incredibly ‘cool.’
Such dominance, he believed, would surely capture Su Yao’s attention.
This left Zhou Lin and Wang Jian at a loss for words, able only to conclude that whatever Brother Liu thought was right, as long as he was happy.
Now that Lin Qing had saved Liu Hong’s life, it was only natural for Liu Hong to be so attentive to him.
What they hadn’t known, however, was just how actively Liu Hong would pursue Lin Qing’s attention.
And now, Liu Hong wore such a resentful expression. It was truly an eyesore!
‘Even if Su Yao, the school belle, wouldn’t accept Brother Liu, he shouldn’t be showering affection on another man!’
‘Besides, no matter how you looked at it, they were stronger than Lin Qing!’
‘Lin Qing’s face was completely obscured, unlike their own handsome features… Wait, this was getting off-topic.’
‘Even if Brother Liu forced them, it wouldn’t work; they liked women!’
“I forgot.”
Just as Zhou Lin was silently grumbling, Lin Qing, having heard Liu Hong’s words, spoke up quite naturally, as if only just remembering.
There was not a trace of guilt for forgetting.
After all, when they had left that day, Liu Hong had departed in Su Yao’s car.
He hadn’t thought anything could possibly go wrong.
His parting words about reporting his safety had merely been polite pleasantries learned from books.
He hadn’t expected Liu Hong to take them seriously.
“Forgot?!”
Upon hearing Lin Qing say he had forgotten, Liu Hong’s voice immediately rose several octaves.
Zhou Lin instantly winced and covered his ears, thinking that his Brother Liu’s noise could rival a tenor’s.
“My apologies. Add my number now, then!”
However, after hearing Lin Qing’s next sentence, Liu Hong’s eyes lit up.
His resentment vanished instantly, replaced by a slight flutter in his heart.
“Wait, I need to talk to you about something. Let’s go to the restroom!”
However, as if suddenly remembering something, Liu Hong masked his joy, adopting a serious expression as he spoke.
He looked as if he had something very important to discuss.
Lin Qing considered this for a moment, immediately guessing what Liu Hong wanted to say.
It was surely related to the abandoned slaughterhouse and Chen Sen.
“Brother Liu, didn’t we just come back from the restroom? Let’s not go again.”
However, Liu Hong’s words, upon reaching Zhou Lin’s ears, caused his expression to instantly register shock.
He quickly interjected, trying to stop Brother Liu from going down the wrong path.
Liu Hong looked at Zhou Lin, puzzled, wondering why he would say such a thing.
Wasn’t a private place like the restroom the perfect spot to discuss important matters?
As for the school rooftop… it had long been locked by the school to prevent student accidents.
