Join the ServerLin Qing seemed to be trapped in a long, endless dream. There was nothing particularly remarkable within this dream, only boundless darkness accompanying him, no matter what he did.
He kept falling, the sensation repeating endlessly.
Suddenly, the darkness vanished, and familiar reality returned.
Except…
Lin Qing gazed at the glass window before him. Though his reflection was indistinct, he could clearly see a dark silhouette clutching his shoulder, like a mass of black flames hovering in mid-air.
As Lin Qing looked over, the shadowy figure’s crimson eyes widened, and its mouth stretched into a grin, revealing sharp fangs. A shriveled, skeletal claw, no longer gripping Lin Qing’s shoulder, extended directly forward.
A dilapidated Balance of Good and Evil hung before it. On one side rested a white skull, while the other held a black one.
Perhaps the weights on both sides were identical, for the scales remained perfectly level.
This caused the shadowy figure to let out a silent, booming laugh. Through the glass’s reflection, its red eyes fixed intently on Lin Qing’s face, creating an utterly bizarre spectacle!
Startled by the sudden appearance of the shadowy figure, Lin Qing froze. Once he regained his composure, he immediately averted his gaze, no longer looking at the reflection in the glass.
After so many years, he was seeing it again.
It was truly unsettling.
Sensing that Lin Qing had not slammed into the glass, Liu Hong cautiously raised his head for a quick glance. Upon seeing Lin Qing turn his head away, a hint of disgust flickered across Liu Hong’s face, a stark contrast to his previous blank expression.
‘He seems to have returned to normal?’
“Holy shit, Lin Qing, are you back to normal?”
Liu Hong immediately asked, a tentative note in his voice, his eyes glued to Lin Qing, terrified he might lash out again.
Having just witnessed Lin Qing’s fierce side, Liu Hong finally understood that this was not a man to be trifled with.
Thus, even his speech was hushed, fearing that angering Lin Qing might lead to another incident.
“Yes, open the door.”
Lin Qing nodded, listening to Liu Hong’s voice. His words caused Liu Hong to let out a sigh of relief, his legs suddenly trembling uncontrollably.
Had he not been quick enough, he might well have been among those now groaning on the ground.
‘It was truly an indiscriminate attack!’
Immediately, Liu Hong stopped pressing against the glass door. Once it was open, Lin Qing stepped out into the blood-soaked, wailing scene.
After Lin Qing had averted his gaze earlier, he noticed the injured individuals. The pointed cone-shaped tag still clutched in his hand was no longer dripping blood; instead, a solidified layer of crimson marred its surface.
This served as a stark reminder of what had transpired.
Although he didn’t know the full story, he recognized that his own state was far from normal.
Beyond the injured people and dogs, Liu Hong’s attitude toward him was no longer as casual and natural as before.
It was as if Liu Hong was deliberately forcing himself to pretend nothing had happened, yet a raw fear was undeniably etched in his eyes.
It was impossible to conceal.
Lin Qing had already surmised the truth.
All of this was connected to him.
From the moment the small kitchen room door was opened, and the iron cage appeared before his eyes…
Lin Qing’s mental state had been highly abnormal. Had he not suddenly seen his reflection in the glass, he wouldn’t have regained his clarity so easily.
Regardless, this was no place to linger.
Recalling Su Yao’s long-prepared murder plot, Lin Qing took a deep breath, knowing he couldn’t stop now.
He couldn’t allow Su Yao to succeed!
From initially spreading rumors of Wang Fanran’s whereabouts in the neighborhood to orchestrating the use of a dog to lure him out.
Even Liu Hong’s appearance and the opportunity for Wang Fanran to escape were all part of Su Yao’s meticulous plan.
To fulfill her long-held desire, she would stop at nothing.
This was the true Su Yao Lin Qing knew.
Not the seemingly gentle and harmless persona she usually adopted.
She had deceived everyone.
However…
Unlike his initial reaction when he first met Su Yao, which was simply to escape, Lin Qing had now made a firm decision. He would not allow Su Yao to fall into depravity, nor would he grant her the chance to kill.
No matter how meticulously Su Yao plotted, he would be there, doing everything in his power to stop her.
“Liu Hong, let’s go. We need to find Su Yao.”
With that thought, Lin Qing wasted no more time and spoke to Liu Hong.
Upon hearing this, Liu Hong was startled by Lin Qing’s sudden change, realizing he had completely forgotten that Su Yao was in danger, potentially at the mercy of that man at any moment!
‘Damn it, how could I forget!’
“Lin Qing, wait a moment. I’ll ask for directions.”
The thought of Su Yao’s peril made Liu Hong disregard his apprehension towards Lin Qing. After speaking, he immediately headed towards the wailing guards in the arena.
Originally, these guards were burly men, and Liu Hong was no match for them.
However, after being attacked by Lin Qing, they had been reduced to defenseless weaklings.
Recalling how excited these men had been, eager to see the vicious dogs tear them apart, Liu Hong’s anger flared. He then brutally tortured them, extracting a detailed map of the slaughterhouse from one of the guards.
To ensure there were no tricks, Liu Hong sought out other individuals as well.
Once he was certain of the information, Liu Hong picked up two iron rods. He then rushed towards Lin Qing, who stood motionless, proudly thumping his chest as he declared he knew where Dog Brother’s room was.
‘Time is short; we should leave quickly!’
Lin Qing nodded in response, taking the iron rods Liu Hong offered and gesturing for him to lead the way.
Dog Brother’s room was quite a distance from the kitchen. Even at an accelerated pace, it would take several minutes, so Lin Qing and Liu Hong rushed there in silence.
Although their immediate priority was to rescue Su Yao, both Liu Hong and Lin Qing pondered various thoughts as they hurried along.
Ultimately, it was Lin Qing who broke the silence, knowing they couldn’t remain quiet any longer.
“Liu Hong, whatever you just saw, forget about it!”
“Are you referring to your abnormal state?”
Hearing Lin Qing voluntarily bring up what had just happened, Liu Hong knew he should simply nod in agreement. Yet, the questions simmering within him began to snowball, growing larger and larger.
He couldn’t help but voice his query, eager to unravel the confusion in his mind.
However, Lin Qing offered no reply.
He merely nodded silently.
It was an unspoken acknowledgment.
As for anything more, he wouldn’t say.
He couldn’t say.
“Alright, after all, you just saved me. I can’t be ungrateful! I’ll pretend this never happened. Anyway, these guys at the slaughterhouse haven’t done anything good, so even if they’re injured, they won’t call the police.”
Seeing Lin Qing’s reluctance to elaborate, Liu Hong knew he couldn’t press further. The only reason he dared to ask these questions now was because the ‘normal’ Lin Qing posed no significant danger; otherwise, he wouldn’t have said another word.
Besides the question about Lin Qing’s abnormal state, Liu Hong still had another unspoken query.
As someone who had just witnessed the entire scene, Liu Hong observed that while Lin Qing struck with extreme force against the slaughterhouse guards, he had spared their lives.
Given Lin Qing’s bizarre demeanor and indifferent gaze, Liu Hong wouldn’t have found it strange even if he had killed them outright.
Yet, he had merely injured them.
It was as if an invisible thread bound Lin Qing’s body, preventing him from taking that final step, forcing him to remain rigidly tethered.
Liu Hong and Lin Qing’s relationship wasn’t particularly close.
Therefore, it was only natural for Lin Qing to keep such private matters to himself.
However, despite his fear of Lin Qing’s abnormality, ever since their shared experience of nearly being fed to dogs, Liu Hong found himself regarding Lin Qing with increasing favor.
‘Could this be the suspension bridge effect?’
“Don’t worry,” Lin Qing assured him, “I will never kill anyone. You don’t need to fear that I’ll lash out at society.”
It was as if Lin Qing had read Liu Hong’s mind, for he then offered a solemn promise.
Yet, rather than merely reassuring Liu Hong, it felt more like he was reaffirming to himself that he truly wouldn’t kill.
“Who’s worried about that!” Liu Hong exclaimed. “You’re not some murderous maniac, just a bit… unique. How could you possibly do something like that?”
Liu Hong’s heart jumped at Lin Qing’s words, yet he quickly feigned indifference as he spoke.
Hearing this, Lin Qing couldn’t help but smile, though the upturn of his lips held a hint of bitterness.
He couldn’t kill.
Once the scales tipped, disaster would ensue.
Consequences he could not bear.
“Hm, is this it?”
Listening to Liu Hong, Lin Qing abruptly changed the subject, pointing towards a solitary, secluded room ahead. Even without Liu Hong’s detailed explanation, Lin Qing instinctively felt this was Dog Brother’s dwelling.
Liu Hong looked up and immediately nodded in confirmation.
The guards had mentioned Dog Brother’s peculiar hobby of keeping various dog specimens around his room. Seeing the neatly arranged specimens now, it was clear this was their destination.
The thought of Su Yao being inside immediately ignited an uncontrollable rage within Liu Hong.
He swiftly rushed forward, flung open the unlocked door, and smoothly entered the room.
“Ahhh, spare me!”
Contrary to Liu Hong’s imagined scene of Su Yao being tormented, it was Dog Brother who knelt before the bed, drenched in blood.
His once ferocious expression had now twisted into one of terror and unease.
His two strong arms hung limply, and Liu Hong instantly recognized that his shoulder joints were dislocated, rendering him incapable of fighting back.
As for his legs, his Achilles tendons had been severed. Dog Brother had not a single uninjured spot on his entire body.
In contrast, Su Yao stood smiling before Dog Brother, a sharp blade in her hand continuously dripping blood.
All clues pointed to Su Yao having defeated Dog Brother and tortured him into this state.
‘This is impossible!’
‘Pure and kind Goddess Su Yao.’
‘How could she do such a thing?’
‘He didn’t believe it!’
Upon seeing someone enter, Su Yao ignored the incredulous Liu Hong. Her gaze fell upon Lin Qing, who followed into the room, and she couldn’t help but raise the knife-wielding hand, waving it near her cheek, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she spoke.
“Lin Qing, it’s a good thing you’re still alive,” Su Yao said. “This guy just told me you’d been fed to the dogs, and that made me angry.”
Su Yao spoke, yet her body remained motionless, still standing in place.
After seeing Lin Qing completely unharmed, Su Yao looked down at the terror-stricken Dog Brother, knowing it was time to act.
Not only could she kill, but there was also an audience watching.
Especially, in front of Lin Qing…
‘Everyone but Lin Qing must die.’
The more she thought about it, the more excited she became. Su Yao’s dark eyes gleamed, and the smile on her lips grew even more radiant.
“Su Yao, I won’t let you kill.”
However, Lin Qing’s sudden words interrupted Su Yao’s good mood.
She tilted her head charmingly, observing Lin Qing’s serious expression. Then, as if a thought struck her, she plunged the knife into Dog Brother’s shoulder.
‘How would Lin Qing stop her?’
‘She truly looked forward to finding out!’
