Chapter 47: The Healer’s Awakening and a Brother’s Caution

Upon learning that my sister’s true ability was healing, my heart swelled with joy.

In this perilous apocalypse, I knew I couldn’t protect her forever. Even a moment of carelessness could lead to her death.

However, if my sister embraced her role as a healer, her life would be secure. She could easily find refuge in a powerful army or a large base filled with ability users.

One day, Bai Xia would leave my side. She had to become strong on her own.

As these thoughts swirled within me, my gaze softened as I looked at her.

It wasn’t that I wished to abandon her; rather, I had to prepare for the inevitable. In the apocalypse, anything could happen.

“Brother, why does my head hurt now?”

“It’s nothing, you just overexerted your ability.”

After playfully nudging me, my sister immediately clutched her head, her eyes wide and pitiful as she looked at me. She continued to complain about her headache, leaving me feeling both helpless and amused.

‘This girl truly doesn’t make things easy…’

I pulled several crystal cores from my spatial storage and pressed them directly into her hand.

“Absorb these crystal cores one by one, and your ability should level up to around tier one. After that, you won’t feel dizzy when using your power.”

“Is it like leveling up by slaying monsters in a game? Zombies are the monsters, crystal cores are experience points, and we’re the protagonists?”

“Something like that! But reality is never like a game. If you die, there’s no chance to start over.”

Seeing her look so delighted, I couldn’t help but add a small word of caution to my reply.

If my sister treated everything happening now as a mere game, she might relax her guard and eventually lose her life.

In the apocalypse, nothing was more valuable than one’s own life. Therefore, I had to correct her attitude as soon as possible, making her take this world seriously.

“I know! No game has only disgusting monsters like zombies! Even some apocalypse mini-games have mutated animals and plants!”

I didn’t speak immediately after hearing my sister’s words.

Everything she mentioned had existed during the ten years of the apocalypse. It was just the second day since the zombie virus outbreak, and mutated animals and plants weren’t as formidable as hordes of zombies, so no one had paid them any mind yet.

Given more time, powerful mutated creatures would undoubtedly emerge.

Mutated animals and plants, like zombies and ability users, were species that had been infected by the zombie virus and subsequently evolved. However, unlike mindless zombies and ability users who retained their humanity, these mutated creatures would only follow their instincts, seeking food: zombie crystal cores and the flesh and blood of ability users.

What set them apart from zombies was that these mutated animals and plants didn’t indiscriminately attack humans; they retained their previous habits. If one encountered a non-hungry mutated creature, they might survive. Zombies, however, would simply devour them.

These were things my sister was better off not knowing too soon. So, I didn’t tell her immediately. Instead, I simply urged her, crystal cores still clutched in hand, to another room, instructing her to absorb the energy in peace.

After my sister left, I reached out and instantly flung the window open. I gazed at the three figures still clinging to the tree, a gentle smile gracing my lips. Since they had already found their way to my doorstep, it was only right they left something behind before returning.
