Chapter 14: Happy

Like a dog on a leash, Ye Feng was paraded through the shopping mall by Mu Yuchen.

Whenever his pace lagged even slightly, she would yank the chain ruthlessly. Though a raging fury burned inside him, he didn’t dare say a word. He didn’t even possess the courage to glance at her with an angry expression.

Timid and weak—this was exactly how he was acting right now. He desperately hated being this way, but he had no other choice.

Sometimes, Ye Feng couldn’t help but wonder if a day would come in the future where he would grow completely accustomed to this lifestyle and slowly accept his reality.

Perhaps that was exactly what this woman wanted: to break him down step-by-step until he accepted it all, succumbed to her, and normalized it.

Therefore, he absolute had to escape before he completely broke. If a day truly came where he grew used to this, he would no longer be himself.

“What do you want to eat? Order for yourself!”

Mu Yuchen’s voice snapped Ye Feng back to reality. Only then did he realize he was already seated at a table inside a restaurant.

Taking the menu handed over by her, he flipped to the first page. What met his eyes were images of incredibly mouth-watering, heavy meat dishes.

Staring at the meats, he frowned slightly and decisively flipped to the second page. The second page consisted entirely of raw cuts and various side ingredients, such as enoki mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, and cilantro.

The third and fourth pages followed a similar pattern, until he reached the fifth page, which finally displayed a selection of desserts, followed by drinks on the sixth page.

Looking through the entire menu, the items that sparked Ye Feng’s appetite the most weren’t the lavish meats, but rather the desserts and beverages.

Ye Feng recalled that in his past life, he used to be quite fond of meat. But looking at these dishes today, he only felt a passing desire to taste a sample rather than feast on them heavily.

“Master, I want to eat these.”

Ye Feng pointed his finger in succession at a pudding, a slice of cake, and a bottle of juice.

“Mm.”

Mu Yuchen took the menu back, checked off a few cuts of barbecue meat and side dishes, and then passed it over to Du Xiaowen.

After Du Xiaowen added a few items she liked, she handed the menu over to the waiter.

Imitating Du Xiaowen’s submissive demeanor, Ye Feng lowered his head. However, he hadn’t even kept it down for long before a large hand abruptly gripped his hair, violently forcing his head back up.

“I don’t like the way you look when you keep your head down. Do you understand?”

“I-I understand, Master.”

Ye Feng’s scalp stung intensely from the pull, and tears began to well up and swirl within his eyes.

If you don’t like it, just say so sooner! Why do you have to yank my hair? It really hurts! Ye Feng thought to himself, feeling deeply aggrieved.

Staring at Ye Feng’s pouting, teary-eyed expression, a strange mixture of guilt and dark thrill washed over Mu Yuchen.

Originally, she had simply intended to pat or stroke Ye Feng’s head, but as she did so, she had somehow automatically grabbed a handful of his hair. By the time she realized what she had done, she could only fabricate a stern reason on the spot to cover it up.

Du Xiaowen raised her head slightly. She had also been startled by Mu Yuchen’s sharp reprimand just now, wondering if her boss was making an indirect jab at her own habit of keeping her head down. She peeked up to scan their expressions, but seeing the current dynamic, it didn’t seem to be about her.

Satisfied, she lowered her head once more, her mind slipping right back into fantasizing about a few “good things” involving herself and Ye Feng.

Right then, the waiter approached, lifted the iron cover on the table, and revealed the grill underneath. After switching it on, laying down a sheet of oil-absorbing paper, and brushing on a light coat of oil, the waiter prepared to leave.

“Wait a moment. Take away this set of utensils,” Mu Yuchen ordered, pointing directly at the plates and chopsticks set in front of Ye Feng.

Ye Feng watched helplessly as his utensils were cleared away. He truly couldn’t comprehend what this woman was constantly thinking. Why did she always act entirely on a whim?

Without any utensils, did she seriously expect him to use his mouth to snap up food directly from the grill like a dog?

That shouldn’t be possible, right?

Just imagining having to eat that way sent a cold shiver down Ye Feng’s spine.

As the waiter began serving platters of food and Mu Yuchen started arranging the meat slices onto the grill, Ye Feng finally couldn’t sit still any longer.

“Master, the utensils are gone… how am I supposed to eat?”

“You’ll find out in a bit.”

Mu Yuchen offered a faint smile, leisurely flipping the pieces of meat on the grill with a pair of tongs. Du Xiaowen quickly stepped in to help out.

Unlike Mu Yuchen, who focused heavily on a single piece at a time, Du Xiaowen was exceptionally meticulous. She flipped every single slice of meat evenly to ensure uniform cooking, and even expertly pressed down on the pieces with her tongs to squeeze out excess moisture and oil.

It was a pity Ye Feng didn’t have any chopsticks, otherwise, he would have definitely jumped in to flip a few pieces himself.

“It’s done!”

Right at that moment, the specific piece of meat Mu Yuchen had been grilling was finally perfectly cooked.

She picked up the piece with her chopsticks, dipped it gently into her personal saucer of seasoned oil, but didn’t bring it to her own mouth. Instead, she extended her chopsticks directly toward Ye Feng’s face.

“Open up.”

This time, Ye Feng didn’t offer any resistance. He obediently opened his mouth and bit down on the piece of meat in one go.

“Is it good?”

“It’s delicious. Thank you, Master.”

This time, Ye Feng’s gratitude came straight from the heart. She was personally grilling and feeding him. Even if her underlying motivation was purely the twisted thrill of feeding her pet dog, Ye Feng still felt a genuine spark of happiness.

Perhaps he really was pathetic—someone throws a tiny bit of kindness his way, and he immediately wags his tail like a dog begging for affection.

However, genuine joy is impossible to hide completely. At the very least, his current self didn’t really know how to mask his emotions.

As Ye Feng accepted another piece of meat fed to him by Mu Yuchen, his mood gradually shifted for the better, and a bright smile began to show more frequently on his face.

Yet, this entire display fell squarely into the eyes of another person.

Tucked away in a distant corner of the restaurant, a solitary figure was watching them closely.

It was Gu Yuxin.

She had never expected to cross paths with Mu Yuchen and that little man here of all places.

The day she had returned home from the incident, she had relayed everything to her mother. However, her mother hadn’t demanded justice for her like she usually did. Instead, she had severely reprimand her, even commanding her to go and formally apologize to Mu Yuchen.

At the time, she honestly thought her mother had lost her mind. It was clearly Mu Yuchen who was in the wrong, so why should she be the one to apologize? On what grounds? In the past, whenever something like this happened, her mother would firmly stand by her side, but now…

Afterward, she locked herself in her bedroom for an entire day, but her mother never came to comfort her as she had anticipated.

Only later did she slowly discover the terrifying truth: Mu Yuchen had already seized control of the vast majority of her family’s assets and corporate networks. It was to the extent where a single sentence from that woman could reduce her entire family to absolute bankruptcy.

Upon learning this news, her immediate instinct was to rush over and confront Mu Yuchen face-to-face, demanding an explanation for why she would do something so ruthless to them.

But when her car finally pulled up outside Mu Yuchen’s villa, she froze and couldn’t bring herself to step out.

Because she suddenly realized that in Mu Yuchen’s eyes, she probably amounted to absolutely nothing. After all, she herself had always treated Mu Yuchen as a personal ATM; so, it was only natural for the other party to view her family as a disposable pawn to be utilized.

When she returned home that day, she saw her exhausted, frantic mother and her father silently weeping in the living room.

The exact moment her mother locked eyes with her, she looked as though she wanted to say something, but ultimately kept her mouth shut. Her father merely stared at her with a highly complex, sorrowful gaze.

Watching the little man and Mu Yuchen together now, looking seemingly so happy and carefree…

Gu Yuxin clenched her fists tightly, only to let them go weakly with a helpless sigh. She knew deep down that she was entirely powerless against Mu Yuchen. But God, she felt so incredibly bitter!
