Chapter 55: Deleting the Alarm

By evening, Ye Feng was still unable to leave the bed normally, though the burning pain in his body had dulled significantly.

In the main administrative hall, Murong Fanghua was quietly reviewing state documents. Today’s workload was noticeably lighter than usual.

Murong Qingning observed her daughter from across the desk, sensing the profound shift taking place within her. The young princess was growing more like her mother with each passing day.

Rather than intervening, Murong Qingning silently reached across the desk, taking a thick stack of reports from her daughter’s hands to handle them herself.

Her daughter had made her choices, and Murong Qingning had no desire to interfere. She had come to peace with the situation—the empire was nowhere near collapse, and the Hild clan possessed enough political reason to avoid reckless slaughter. The worst-case scenario was a noble rebellion.

With her own military experience combined with her daughter’s authority, suppressing such an uprising was entirely feasible, even if the conflict temporarily weakened the state’s global standing and invited pressure from neighboring conglomerates.

She was fully prepared to face whatever fallout came their way.

“Mother, I’m finished for the day. I’ll be retiring now.”

“Mhm. Rest up. Don’t push yourself too hard—you’ve looked exhausted all day.”

“I know… Oh, by the way, Mother, I’ve decided to marry Guen. Please pick a suitable date.”

Murong Fanghua spoke with a calm, indifferent tone, as though arranging a minor administrative task.

Murong Qingning, who had been contemplating countermeasures against potential political unrest a second prior, blinked in surprise at her daughter’s abrupt announcement.

She smacked her lips, taken aback by the sudden shift. Opening her mouth to speak, she looked up only to find Murong Fanghua had already left the hall.

“Sigh…”

With a quiet sigh, Murong Qingning moved over to her daughter’s seat, picking up another document to read.

Having a daughter who was too decisive wasn’t entirely a blessing—it left her feeling almost obsolete as a mother. Still, this arrangement was bound to hurt that poor boy. Since he was carrying her family’s bloodline, she made a mental note to visit him when the time was right.

Upon returning to the bedchamber, Murong Fanghua’s first act was to gather Ye Feng into her arms and carry him straight into the bathroom.

She personally bathed him, while Ye Feng kept his flushed face buried tightly against her shoulder, too shy to look up.

Murong Fanghua chuckled softly at his reaction, her hand gently trailing down his back as she stroked his hair.

“Ngh… Master, no… it hurts!”

Ye Feng raised his head, tears glistening at the corners of his eyes.

“Does it still hurt?”

Murong Fanghua frowned slightly, testing the sensitive area with a light press.

“Ah… so painful… Master, please don’t!”

Seeing his tearful expression, her heart softened, and her hand switched to a light, soothing massage.

“Does this feel better?”

“Mhm… it doesn’t hurt anymore… it feels so good. Master is amazing!”

Murong Fanghua nodded, maintaining her gentle movements. After a few moments, however, she paused—his body had reacted involuntarily.

A deep blush spread instantly to the tip of Ye Feng’s ears. He was genuinely sore, yet her gentle touch felt blissfully comforting.

Captivated by his endearing response, Murong Fanghua abandoned all restraint, pulling him onto her lap right there in the warm bathwater.

By the time they finished, Ye Feng felt entirely devoid of physical strength once more. Yet the underlying soreness hadn’t worsened, and being held gently in Murong Fanghua’s arms brought him an overwhelming sense of contentment.

Over the following month, the two spent nearly every day together. Ye Feng thoroughly enjoyed this tranquil routine, though one minor detail puzzled him: why did Murong Fanghua set a daily alarm on her phone every morning?

By the time the alarm went off, she had already left for her royal duties, meaning the ringing only affected him. What was the point of waking him up so early when he had nowhere to go?

As weeks turned into a month, Ye Feng noticed a subtle change in his body—his lower abdomen felt distinctly firmer and slightly rounded.

Assuming he was simply gaining weight, he drastically reduced his food intake over the next few days in an attempt to slim down. Yet the diet yielded no physical change and only left him enduring gnawing hunger pangs.

That agonizing sensation of starvation felt strangely familiar and deeply uncomfortable.

Ultimately, Murong Fanghua gently revealed the truth to him: he was pregnant.

Propped up against the pillows, Ye Feng gently rested both hands over his stomach, his mind filling with warm imagery of raising the child—picturing the baby calling him “Dad” and Murong Fanghua “Mom.” The mere thought filled his chest with immense joy.

While lost in his daydreams, his attention drifted to the smartphone resting on the nightstand. It occurred to him that he hadn’t played with a phone since arriving here.

In his memories, he used to be glued to a phone everywhere he went. Spurred by the thought, he picked up the device.

The screen wasn’t locked. The device looked relatively new, preinstalled with only standard system software. Curiosity piqued, he opened the application store to download a few mobile games.

Half an hour later, Ye Feng abandoned the store in utter frustration. Games in this world were baffling—the vast majority were male-oriented dress-up and dating simulators.

Seeing virtual male characters styled in elaborate dresses and heavy lipstick left him feeling a wave of genuine nausea.

Curiously, he didn’t stop to question why he felt so repulsed by male dress-up games, nor why he distinctly remembered a past habit of playing on a smartphone all day.

To his current mind, those memories simply felt like natural facts.

Giving up on games, he idly swiped through the home screen until his gaze landed on a simple clock icon.

Recalling the annoying daily alarm, Ye Feng realized this device was likely the source. The morning chime served no purpose for him anyway, and a quiet voice deep inside his subconscious seemed to urge him to shut it off.

Without further hesitation, he tapped into the clock app, located the scheduled alarm toggle, and deleted it entirely before setting the phone back on the nightstand.

He sank back into the mattress, quietly waiting for Murong Fanghua’s return.

Murong Fanghua could never have anticipated that Ye Feng would remove the alarm trigger himself. In her mind, Ye Feng was merely an obedient, brainwashed pet—and pets simply followed orders.

Meanwhile, in a modest rented apartment across town:

“Keep scrubbing properly. The recruitment process starts in a few days—with your current cleaning skills, they’ll reject your application on the spot,” Mu Yutong remarked coolly, examining a stack of financial documents while watching Du Xiaowen mop the floor.

“I… I understand!” Du Xiaowen replied softly, clutching the mop tighter. She knew she had to perform flawlessly to secure the janitorial position at the palace—it was her only way to see Ye Feng again.

Mu Yutong glanced at her briefly before returning her focus to the economic reports in her hands. The files contained detailed transaction ledgers of the kingdom’s major commercial flows over recent years.

By analyzing these records, Mu Yutong could identify the state’s critical supply vulnerabilities and establish a economic foothold in the country. Only with sufficient resources and strategic leverage could she ensure a successful escape plan once Ye Feng was pulled out of the palace.

Rescuing Ye Feng from the royal grounds was only the first step; getting him out of the country required extensive logistics. Without proper backing, fleeing across the border would be impossible.

Still, her current preparations were far from sufficient. She needed more leverage than her small team could provide.

Gazing at her phone on the edge of the desk, Mu Yutong hesitated, contemplating whether she should make the call to her sister.
