Join the ServerDeeply moved by a blend of pity and agonizing guilt, Guen stared at Ye Feng. If I didn’t exist, perhaps Sister Murong would have married him instead. Carrying that heavy burden, he bowed deeply before the boy on the bed.
“I’m sorry, I’m truly so sorry… I don’t even know what else to say besides ‘I’m sorry.’ But… I have to marry Sister Murong. I know it’s selfish, but if it’s alright with you, I would love for us to be friends. I know this request is completely out of line, but…”
Ye Feng stared at him in utter bewilderment. What on earth is this guy talking about?
He badly wanted to ask, Who the hell are you?—but he knew he couldn’t afford to break character.
Still, he managed to glean a critical piece of information: this young man was going to marry Murong Fanghua. A bitter wave of humiliation surged through his chest.
If she married him, what did that make Ye Feng? What would become of him and his unborn child? Was he just a side piece, an illegal mistress?
He loathed every bit of it, but he knew he was completely powerless to stop it. He couldn’t even figure out what was wrong with his own mind, let alone control her marriage.
Besides, Murong Fanghua had never truly loved him. He was merely a tool to satisfy her desires—he didn’t even possess the standing to object.
Forcing his emotions to settle, Ye Feng fixed a quiet, intense gaze on the blonde young man before him.
“Er…”
Guen trailed off as he noticed the strange intensity in Ye Feng’s eyes. He froze, falling silent. Does he hate me that much…?
Seeing him grow quiet, Ye Feng hesitated briefly before deciding to speak. This naive noble might just be his only way out.
“You… want to be friends with me?”
“May I?” Guen raised his head, his eyes brimming with earnest hope.
“Sure. Of course we can be friends.” Ye Feng nodded, forcing a soft, friendly smile onto his face. “So… as my new friend, could you give me a gift?”
He offered a smile that felt utterly hypocritical even to himself.
“Uh…” Guen blinked, patting down his outfit. He realized he wasn’t carrying anything suitable to give as a friendship present.
Watching Guen frantically search his pockets, a genuine smile finally touched Ye Feng’s lips.
Just as he suspected, this guy was remarkably naive—or perhaps just hopelessly foolish. From Guen’s perspective, Ye Feng was the third party in his marriage, yet he had come here to apologize to the mistress. If that wasn’t pure innocence, what was?
Yet Ye Feng knew he had no right to mock him. He had been just as foolishly naive once upon a time. While he still appreciated that pure innocence in others, he simply had no use for it anymore.
“Do you have a phone on you?”
“Yes! I do.” Guen quickly retrieved a sleek smartphone from his pocket. Ye Feng glanced at it—it was a luxury model he had never seen before.
“I’ve always wanted a phone,” Ye Feng murmured, adopting a wistful, pitiful expression. “It’s so suffocatingly lonely trapped in this room all day. If I had a phone, I could play games, watch videos, or stream shows to pass the time.”
Guen’s heart melted at his tragic expression. He rarely used his phone anyway; he kept it strictly to stay in touch with his family.
“Why don’t you take mine? It’s not much use to me anyway.”
Gaze locked on the phone being handed to him, Ye Feng felt a surge of triumph, closely shadowed by a pang of guilt. Is it truly right to manipulate someone this innocent?
“Thank you. You really are a wonderful person.”
The best he could offer in return was a useless “good guy” compliment. Yet hearing those words made Guen beam with quiet pride, genuinely happy to help a friend.
Ye Feng swiped up on the screen—the phone wasn’t even password-protected. Glancing at the top corner, he saw 67% battery remaining. More than enough.
“Could I ask you for one more favor?”
“Of course! Tell me.”
“Thank you.”
Ye Feng reached over to the nightstand, picking up Murong Fanghua’s phone containing the scheduled alarm.
“Is that…”
“It’s her phone,” Ye Feng clarified before Guen could misunderstand. He unlocked it and pointed to the clock application. “There’s an alarm set on this phone with a specific audio track. Whenever I hear this music, I fall right to sleep. I want you to play this audio, and then put the phone back right where you found it. Can you do that for me?”
“Why?” Guen understood the request, but the logic behind it eluded him completely.
“Are we friends?”
“Yes.”
“Then just help me out, and please don’t ask any questions. Okay?”
“Um… okay!” Guen hesitated for a second before nodding firmly. In his mind, friends helped each other unconditionally; even if he didn’t grasp the reason, he was determined to carry out his friend’s wish.
“Thank you!”
Without delay, Ye Feng pulled out Guen’s phone, opened the voice recorder application, hit record, locked the screen, and slid it smoothly under the bed frame.
“What are you…”
“My friend… don’t ask!” Ye Feng handed Murong Fanghua’s phone back to Guen, flashing a sweet, innocent smile. “Here, play the music.”
Guen stared at the adorable smile, flustered. Snapping back to his senses with a blush, he took the phone and pressed play on the audio clip.
The moment the haunting melody filled the air, an intense, crushing wave of unnatural drowsiness hit Ye Feng’s brain. Within seconds, his body went limp, collapsing onto the mattress with a soft thud.
The sudden fall startled Guen, but recalling Ye Feng’s instructions, he quickly turned off the playback and carefully set the phone back on the nightstand.
After staring at Ye Feng’s peaceful, sleeping face for a few long moments, he turned and walked out of the room with a flushed face.
In truth, Ye Feng was gambling everything. He hated placing his fate on a reckless gamble, but he had no other cards left to play.
He could only pray that Murong Fanghua wouldn’t notice what he had done, and that Guen would keep his word and remain silent. The biggest flaw in his plan was the phone hidden beneath the bed frame—if Murong Fanghua searched the room or if the device made any noise, he would be completely exposed. Though he had switched Guen’s phone to airplane mode beforehand, unpredictable accidents still terrified him.
Still, this was the absolute limit of what he could accomplish right now.
Roughly half an hour after Guen departed, Ye Feng opened his eyes.
Looking around the room with a hazy, affectionate gaze, he stretched his arms comfortably. That was such a wonderful sleep!
Now came the eager waiting game—waiting for his Master to return and shower him with affection. Just thinking about her made his chest swell with overwhelming happiness.
Sometimes waiting was agonizing, but when the destination guaranteed pure bliss, even the longest wait felt meaningful and sweet.
In the midst of his happy anticipation, the door finally opened, revealing the person he longed for most. It felt as though she had returned much sooner than yesterday.
Leaping out of bed, he threw his arms around her neck, nuzzling his head against her shoulder in sheer delight.
“My sweet boy, did you miss me that much?”
“Mhm! Ye Feng missed Master so much he almost went crazy!”
“So… did you miss me, or did you miss what I do to you more?”
“Ngh… I… I missed both!”
