Chapter 35: What Exactly Do You Mean?

“This is internal Mu family business, and it’s hardly the place for an outsider like you to stick your nose in!”

Mu Yutong couldn’t care less about her opponent’s noble lineage or political backing right now. The woman was openly making a play for Ye Feng, and no matter the cost, she refused to hand him over to anyone else.

Spit-shining her teeth, she spun around to leave, but within two short strides, a formidable figure cut across her path, blocking her exit.

“What is the meaning of this?”

Mu Yutong turned back, glaring fiercely at the woman relaxed on the leather sofa.

“What I intend to accomplish is already well underway. There’s no operational need to brief you on the details. Let her pass,” Murong Fanghua commanded smoothly.

Mu Yutong knit her brows in deep suspicion. What kind of twisted mind game is this woman playing? Bringing me all the way here just to toss out a vague threat?

Unable to decipher the riddle, she decided to stop wasting cognitive bandwith on it. She still needed to rush back to the villa to prepare a meal for Ye Feng.

Murong Fanghua watched Mu Yutong’s hasty departure, a faint, calculating smile curling her lips.

“The execution timeline should be reaching completion. Go check the perimeter to ensure no variables fall out of alignment.”

“Understood, Miss!” Qingning bowed crisply and exited the suite.

Mu Yutong sped through traffic on her way home, a growing sense of unease gnawing at her mind the more she pondered the encounter. That final line—“What I intend to accomplish is already well underway”—kept echoing in her ears, signaling that something terrible had likely transpired in her absence.

The second her vehicle pulled up to the estate, she bolted straight down toward the subterranean bunker.

Mapping the shattered lock and splintered frame of the basement door, she clung to a desperate, last-ditch shred of optimism as she stepped inside. But as her eyes landed on the vacant mattress and the dark crimson pool of blood staining the sheets, that final flicker of hope was violently extinguished.

At that exact moment, Ye Feng was pinned in the rear seat of a black luxury vehicle, flanked on all sides by stern women in dark suits.

Panic surged through his veins, but he possessed zero physical leverage to resist. In a healthy state, he lacked the force to counter a trained security detail; in his current hemorrhaging, exhausted condition, he was entirely at their mercy.

Just a few minutes prior, this precise squad had breached the villa’s perimeter, bypassing security and heading straight for his basement quarters.

His head was still spinning in complete confusion. He couldn’t comprehend what was happening, who these people were, or why they were kidnapping him. Are they using me as leverage to extort Mu Yuchen?

He gave a faint, weary shake of his head, forcing his racing thoughts to quiet down. His mind was too hazy and overwhelmed to process strategic logic anyway. Rather than driving himself insane, he could only passively watch the situation unfold.

Before long, the motorcade pulled up outside an opulent hotel complex—a towering structure far grander than anything he had ever seen in his life.

While waiting at the VIP elevator bank, Ye Feng’s peripheral vision caught a brief, familiar outline in the lobby. He desperately wanted to shout out to draw her attention, but his physical state was far too fragile. The rasp that escaped his throat was barely audible even to himself, completely failing to bridge the distance to the lobby.

Ding!

The elevator doors slid open, and the squad ushered him inside, permanently severing his final window of opportunity.

Truth be told, Ye Feng realized that if he had summoned every remaining ounce of strength to thrash around and create a commotion, he might have caught her eye. But he had hesitated—because he was utterly lost.

The second the elevator ascended, a sudden wave of dizziness hit him. The weightless surge of the lift, combined with his continuous blood loss, proved too much for his battered body to handle. His head slumped sideways against the plush interior padding, and he drifted into complete unconsciousness.

When the elevator doors reopened on the upper executive floor, Qingning was waiting right outside, preparing to head downstairs.

She paused, taking a moment to inspect the unconscious, vulnerable young man. He really is quite breathtaking, she thought privately. No wonder the Young Miss lost her composure over him.

“Hand him over to me. The rest of you may stand down and rest,” Qingning instructed.

Taking hold of Ye Feng’s limp frame, Qingning didn’t immediately transport him to Murong Fanghua’s suite. He was far too unkempt, drenched in a thick, metallic scent of blood. It was paramount to wash him clean first and make the proper preparations.

Inside her private suite, Murong Fanghua was quietly brewing a fresh batch of tea. She held a deep appreciation for the art of tea, a passion passed down directly from her parents.

However, she only ever personally prepared the brew when her mood was exceptionally bright.

Down on the first floor, inside the grand private dining hall, Mu Yuchen was in the middle of a pleasant conversation with her corporate partners when her phone vibrated intensely.

“Excuse me for a moment, everyone. I need to take this urgent call.”

Offering a polite nod to the room, Mu Yuchen stepped out into the quiet hallway.

“Sister! Where are you?! Someone just breached the house and took Ye Feng!”

The second the line connected, Mu Yutong’s frantic, panic-stricken voice exploded through the speaker.

“What did you say?!”

“Sister, where are you right now?!”

“I’m at the Xifeng Grand Hotel! Tell me exactly what happened!”

“The people who took Ye Feng are at the Xifeng Grand Hotel right now! Room 206 on the second floor! Get up there immediately!”

Mu Yutong didn’t bother answering her sister’s questions, blurting out the emergency coordinates in a desperate rush before abruptly severing the call.

In reality, she had just been pulled over by traffic enforcement. Driving while making frantic calls and shouting at her phone constituted a severe traffic violation—a clear reminder that one should always maintain absolute focus on the road rather than multi-tasking during a crisis.

Mu Yuchen slipped her phone back into her blazer. Though the exact details of the situation remained murky, one imperative was crystal clear: she needed to reach Room 206 immediately.

“My apologies, everyone, but an urgent matter requires my immediate attention. Xiaowen, with me.”

Before the corporate partners could process her sudden departure, Mu Yuchen had already swept out of the room with her secretary in tow, leaving the executives exchanging bewildered glances.

“Boss, what’s going on?”

Du Xiaowen, completely out of the loop, followed breathlessly behind Mu Yuchen as they surged up the stairwell.

Arriving at Room 206, Mu Yuchen didn’t bother knocking, delivering a sharp, decisive kick that burst the heavy double doors open.

Stepping into the lavish suite, her eyes immediately locked onto Murong Fanghua, who was casually pouring tea on the central sofa.

“Miss Mu, we finally meet face-to-face,” Murong Fanghua offered with a polite, faint smile, seemingly entirely unbothered by the violent intrusion.

“Where have you taken Ye Feng?”

Mu Yuchen dropped all pleasantries. The unauthorized abduction of her private property had crossed her absolute red line.

“Heh. Miss Mu, you appear to be laboring under a fundamental misunderstanding. I didn’t ‘take’ him—I rescued him.”

“What exactly do you mean by that?”

“It means precisely what I said.”

“Precisely what you said? Then what is the exact meaning behind kidnapping him?!”

“My reason for taking him should be fairly obvious to a woman of your intellect.”

“I don’t care what your motives are! Return Ye Feng to me—right now!”

“Heh. As I mentioned, you’re viewing this through a skewed lens. I am merely extracting him from an abusive situation.”

“He doesn’t need your ‘extraction’!”

Had this not been her opponent’s private turf, Mu Yuchen would have already ordered a physical assault.

Murong Fanghua shook her head gently, taking a slow, refined sip from her porcelain cup. She was more than content to draw out this confrontation, because… she was actively stalling for time.

“Miss Mu, allow me to pose a simple question: Do you believe a human being naturally prefers to exist in a dark, subterranean basement, or to walk under the open sunlight?”

“What point are you trying to make?”

“I’m simply asking a straightforward question.”

“The answer shouldn’t require vocalization—you understand it just as clearly as I do. No one willingly chooses to be locked in a dark basement. No one desires to wear a dog collar around their neck, driven like livestock. And certainly, no one enjoys being rotated through three different women every single day!”

“So, tell me… do you still genuinely believe I am not saving him?”

“That… that is none of your business! That is a private matter between us, and he voluntarily accepted those terms for my sake!”

“Voluntarily?” Murong Fanghua’s eyes flashed with icy amusement. “Then why don’t we bring him out and ask him directly whether he’s ‘voluntary’?”
