Chapter 67: He Disappeared

“Then… this old servant shall take her leave.”

Having said her piece, Lady Belle trembled as she made her way toward the exit. She had entered the hall with pride and arrogance, only to leave in absolute fear and hesitation.

Yet the moment she stepped clear of the royal palace gates, her trembling front vanished, replaced by her usual composed demeanor.

She picked up her pace, quickening her steps toward her waiting luxury sedan. It was only after sliding into the plush leather seat that her racing heartbeat gradually normalized. Taking a few deep, steadying breaths, she retrieved her phone and dialed a encrypted line.

“It is just as you suspected. What Prince Guen claimed is indeed the truth.”

“Very well. We understand.”

Meanwhile, deep within a hidden subterranean chamber of the Hild ancestral castle, several clan elders sat in a tight ring around a heavy stone table.

“Judging by the current turn of events, that young Murong girl holds no romantic affection for Guen whatsoever.”

“Hmph! Regardless of her personal feelings, she will accept a son of the Hild family, whether she likes it or not!”

“Patience. According to our latest intelligence, a man gave birth inside the palace quarters on the very day of their grand wedding. My private investigation confirms that this man is her secret lover—and that newborn child carries her royal bloodline.”

“What?! She already bore a child with another man?! Dammit, how dare she disrespect our family like this?!”

“Calm down. What’s done is done. What matters now is how we handle this outrage, not venting useless anger.”

An elderly noblewoman radiating imposing authority raised her hand, instantly hushing the heated murmurs around the table.

“Since the Princess values this man so deeply, the solution is simple: make him disappear.”

“Disappear? How? He is kept deep inside the royal quarters under heavy guard. Assasinating him inside the palace is virtually impossible!”

“Heh, you needn’t worry about logistics. Guen has already cleared the path for us. His little schemes might fool others, but they cannot slip past my eyes.”

The elder paused, gesturing toward the shadowy corner behind her. “Allow me to introduce our primary asset—the world’s top assassin: Ryoko Kyosei.”

The elders turned their heads toward the dark corner, yet saw nothing but empty shadows.

In the very next breath, a silver blade cut through the air with terrifying speed, grazing the cheek of one of the elder women before embedding itself deep into the stone pillar behind her.

Thunk!

The sharp impact echoed through the chamber, sending a wave of icy sweat down the elder woman’s spine as she realized how close she had come to death.

A soft pair of footsteps echoed from the darkness as a figure with flowing silver hair stepped into the candlelight, cradling a tiny, fluffy pink fox in her arms.

“You’ll stay here for the time being. Once the dust settles, I’ll come back to check on you.”

“Mhm!” Ye Feng gave a quiet nod, his cheeks warming with an unexpected flush.

Guen pulled out a key, unlocked the door, and ushered him inside the quiet apartment.

The space was a standard two-bedroom unit—neither overly grand nor cramped, but Ye Feng took an immediate liking to it.

“This residential complex has very few tenants, and the building security is fairly relaxed. Staying here won’t draw any unwanted attention.”

“Thank you, Guen.”

Ye Feng offered his heartfelt gratitude, tears brimming at the corners of his eyes. If a man was willing to risk everything to secure his freedom like this, Ye Feng felt that if he were a woman, he would have married him on the spot.

Of course, even if Guen were a woman, he would gladly give his heart to such kindness—yet unfortunately, both of them were men.

“Brother Ye Feng, please take care of yourself. I must head back now.”

“Ah… alright! Take care!”

Snapping out of his stray thoughts, Ye Feng said a reluctant, affectionate goodbye to the youth.

Once Guen departed, Ye Feng explored his new home. The furnishings were simple and unassuming, yet the quiet space granted him an unprecedented sense of safety.

No more living as a manipulated puppet… no more facing a demanding Master who viewed his body as a personal indulgence. Everything felt serene and free—yet a hollow ache lingered deep within his chest.

Ye Feng touched his flattened stomach. He missed his daughter.

A sudden, terrifying realization struck him: by choosing to run away, had he forfeited the chance to ever see his child again?

Though he hadn’t been permitted to hold her for long after labor, he had carried her inside his own body for ten whole months. He had felt every kick, every shift, every sign of life as she grew.

He had long since regarded that child as his entire reason for living. That profound paternal bond was something no distance could ever erase.

It was a parent’s purest, most selfless love for their child—just as mothers in his former world cherished their offspring above life itself.

As the realization washed over him, a warm tear slipped down his pale cheek. He pressed his palm against his lower abdomen, desperately longing to feel her tiny movements once more, yet knowing it was impossible.

Ye Feng spent the entire night tormented by remorse. Weighed against each other, which mattered more—his personal freedom, or his daughter? He wanted his baby back; even just a single glance would be enough!

He hated himself for being so selfish. How could he abandon his own flesh and blood just for some elusive dream of freedom?

Yet returning was impossible. He had been driven here in a dark, tinted vehicle, leaving him with zero knowledge of the city’s layout. The drive had taken hours; trying to navigate his way back to the palace on foot was a hopeless fantasy.

Inside the main administrative hall, Murong Fanghua rubbed her exhausted eyes and glanced at the wall clock. It was already past five in the morning, with the first light of dawn creeping through the high windows.

She stood up and stretched her stiff shoulders. It seemed she wouldn’t be able to spend time with her sweet boy tonight; she needed to catch a few hours of sleep before the morning sessions.

With a helpless, tired smile, she stepped out of the hall and walked down the silent corridor toward Ye Feng’s suite.

Pushing the door open softly, she looked toward the bed—only to find it completely empty.

She froze for a moment, then turned toward the bathroom, assuming he was using the facilities.

Yet the bathroom was equally deserted. Telling herself he must be taking an early bath, she opened the inner shower door with a trembling hand.

An absolute, thunderous shock slammed into her chest, sending a violent tremor through her entire body.

“No… No! Where is he?! Where did he go?!”

Before she could process the panic, a sharp rush of footsteps burst into the suite.

Hearing Murong Fanghua’s terrified screams, Qing had rushed inside with her weapon drawn.

“Your Highness! What happened?!”

“Ye… Ye Feng is gone!”

“Your Highness, please stay calm! I will deploy the guards to search the compound immediately!”

“No! I’ll find him myself!”

Murong Fanghua’s mind raced at top speed, connecting the dots back to Lady Belle’s bizarre, confrontational arrival hours prior. That old noblewoman had clearly been stalling for time while her accomplices smuggled Ye Feng out!

Yet when Murong Fanghua led a armed squad and tore through every corner of the Hild ancestral castle, she found no trace of Ye Feng whatsoever.

She was on the verge of a complete breakdown.

Where is he?! Where on earth did he go?!

She asked herself repeatedly, her eyes bloodshot, her hands clawing frantically through her hair.

“Fanghua? What in the world are you doing?”

A calm, authoritative voice cut through the chaos. Murong Fanghua lifted her hollow, bloodshot eyes to see her mother standing in the doorway.

“Mother… he’s gone… Ye Feng disappeared! Sob…“

Like a helpless child whose entire world had shattered, Murong Fanghua collapsed into her mother’s arms, breaking into hysterical, agonized weeping.

Hearing that Ye Feng had vanished, Murong Qingning felt her own heart skip a frantic beat. Yet looking at her weeping daughter, she forced herself to remain calm, wrapping her arms around Murong Fanghua to soothe her before investigating the situation.
