Join the ServerA problem arose on the road ahead. A massive pile-up of vehicles blocked our path, making it impossible to continue driving.
The only option left was to abandon the cars and proceed on foot, navigating through the extensive debris.
Fortunately, the botanical garden was not far. According to Wang Ming and the others, once we cleared this stretch of obstacles, it would only take about an hour’s walk to reach our destination.

Feng Qie had already successfully awakened his ability. As Wang Ming and her group disembarked, I gave him a few pointers about what to expect after a recent awakening, then left him to discern the nature of his new power.
The sheer number of vehicles ahead suggested that zombies had appeared during an attempted escape. As more and more bitten individuals transformed, it led to a massive traffic jam, creating a situation where those attempting to flee found themselves utterly trapped.
“Hmm? When we left, it wasn’t like this!”
“Exactly! When did so many vehicles pile up here?”
“Could there be zombies hiding inside? I’m terrified of those monstrous things.”
“Me too, me too! My legs are already trembling with fear.”
Listening to the women’s panicked whispers, I frowned slightly, my mind already contemplating the gravity of the situation.
Given that only two days ago this area wasn’t clogged with vehicles, it was highly probable that unmoving zombies still lurked among them.
Among our group, only my sister and I could truly contend with zombies. Feng Qie, having just awakened, couldn’t yet be counted as a reliable combatant.
As for Wang Ming and her group of ordinary women, they would likely only scream and flee if zombies attacked.
Therefore, I had to ensure we navigated this perilous gauntlet on our way to the botanical garden.
My primary objective was to guarantee Wang Ming and the others reached the vicinity of the botanical garden unharmed; otherwise, my initial promise would be rendered meaningless.
“Brother Bai! I know what my ability is! It’s absolutely fantastical! I, Feng Qie, am going to be a superhero!”
“What ability?”
Just as I was racking my brain for a solution, Feng Qie’s excited voice suddenly rang out beside me. I turned my head to see his beaming face, and, humoring him, asked about his awakened power.
Upon hearing my question, Feng Qie excitedly tossed his head, flipping a lock of hair behind his ear, then puffed out his chest and proudly declared his ability.
“It’s speed! I can now boost my speed to more than twice the normal!”
“Speed ability, huh? . . . Hmm, excellent. A speed ability should be of the [Human] attribute. Take these; absorb them right here, right now.”
My eyes lit up at Feng Qie’s words. The more I looked at him, the more satisfied I became.
I then feigned reaching into my pocket, but in reality, I retrieved several Level 1 blue core crystals from my spatial dimension and tossed them to Feng Qie.
“This . . . this . . . Brother Bai, you’re too good to me! Mwah!”
“. . . Just absorb them first.”
Not long ago, I had given Feng Qie a brief primer on ability users, so when I threw him the core crystals, he already knew how to absorb them.
I offered an awkward smile, seeing Feng Qie’s excited expression. I urged him to quickly absorb the core crystal energy and rapidly break through to Level 1.
Once Feng Qie swiftly broke through to Level 1, and as he excitedly tested his new abilities, I reached out and patted his shoulder, a sympathetic expression on my face.
“Well? How does it feel to upgrade?”
“Brother Bai, it’s amazing! It was only double speed before, but now it’s quadrupled! Will it double every time I level up? That would be incredible!”
“Don’t dream of such good fortune. Your ability boosts are incredibly simple right now because your level is low. Once you reach Level 3, the improvements will slow down significantly. . . We’ll discuss these things later. For now, with your quadrupled speed, I feel much more at ease.”
“At ease about what?”
“Go scout ahead. Observe your surroundings carefully for any lurking zombies. Return and report to us every five hundred meters.”
“No way! Brother Bai, I’ll be bitten to death by zombies!”
“Do you want to be bitten to death by zombies, or beaten to death by me?”
“Then . . . I’ll go.”
After coercing Feng Qie into scouting ahead, I gathered my sister and Wang Ming’s group. I took the lead at the front of the formation, while my sister stood guard at the rear, protecting Wang Ming and the others in the middle.
“Bai Han, I’m a little scared.”
As we advanced, a woman from the middle of the group suddenly stepped forward, pressing tightly against my back.
Her ample chest pressed against my back, swaying rhythmically as she spoke. I glanced back slightly at the woman, realizing I had no impression of her.
She hadn’t spoken much before, so I wondered why she was suddenly acting this way.
‘Perhaps she feels insecure now and wants to forge a connection with me to gain protection.’
Despite her rather delicate features, her eyes were filled with an obvious desire that only made me feel more impatient.
If it were the sixteen-year-old Bai Han, I might have been flustered by this, but alas . . . I was Bai Han, reborn from ten years into the apocalypse. Such a minor trick would not faze me.
“If you’re scared, stay at the back. Otherwise, if zombies attack, you’ll only die faster.”
Just as I finished speaking, Feng Qie returned from scouting. He ran back, his face alight with excitement, waving his arms at me. As he drew closer, I finally distinguished what he was shouting.
“Brother Bai, run! A huge horde of zombies!”
Upon hearing Feng Qie’s words, the woman who had been clinging to my back quickly retreated, her expression horrified as she, along with Wang Ming and the others, stared ahead.
My sister, who had been guarding the rear, couldn’t help but step forward, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with me.
Behind the frantically running Feng Qie, the silhouettes of a zombie horde began to emerge clearly.
