X
After entering the Holy City without further incident, Qin Yu and the others bid the head merchant a temporary farewell.
“Thank you…”
Xiao Ya thanked Qin Yu for his help.
“Don’t be so quick to thank me; you’re going to the Holy See to register, right? It’s on our way.”
“Mhm.”
Still unsure of how to interact with the opposite s*x, Xiao Ya nodded and continued walking with them.
Soon, they arrived in front of a massive, harmonious, and solemn cathedral; this was the core of the Holy City—the Church of the Holy Light.
Besides Qin Yu’s group, other players had arrived here as well; many guild players were scrambling to change their class and become members of the Holy See.
“It seems there are quite a lot of people…”
“We can just… wait slowly. Qin Yu, I… need to log off for a bit and rest.”
“Alright. Let’s add each other as friends first and stay in touch.”
“Mhm.”
After they exchanged friend requests, Xiao Ya logged off.
With that settled, Qin Yu could proceed with the task he needed to accomplish.
“Excuse me, sorry to bother you.”
Qin Yu approached a nun who looked somewhat older, intending to have her pass on a message.
“The Holy Light guides you, traveler from another world. If you wish to become a follower of the Holy Light, please join the queue and wait.”
The nun mistook Qin Yu for just another player wanting to join the Church.
“I’m afraid you’ve misunderstood; I have intelligence I wish to report to the Holy See…”
Qin Yu lowered his voice before continuing.
“…It concerns Saintess Daisie, who went missing ten years ago.”
Hearing Daisie’s name, the nun visibly froze.
“Please wait here a moment; I will go report this immediately.”
The nun hurried into the church, while Qin Yu waited outside with Yin Feixue and Luna.
****
Inside the Pope’s Hall.
Nine leaders of the Holy See—the three Great Legion Commanders, three Bishops, the Saintess, the Director of the Heresy Inquisition, and the Pope—were holding a meeting.
The Gryphon Legion had just brought back news: there was movement among the undead in the northern part of the Central Continent.
Moreover, it wasn’t just the Central Continent; undead factions across other continents were also beginning to stir, as if something terrifying had awakened.
“The situation is as follows: the undead forces are awakening again. We must prepare our response as quickly as possible to prevent the tragedy of ten years ago from repeating…”
The Commander of the Imperial Guard, one of the three Great Legions, relayed the situation to the others present.
At the mention of the events ten years ago, everyone’s face carried a hint of grief and indignation—especially the Saintess.
“The Dwarf Empire should have also detected the undead movement. Should we discuss a joint campaign with them?”
A Bishop suggested.
The three largest powers on the Central Continent were the Holy See in the southwest, the Dwarf Empire in the northwest, and the Drow Elves of the Underworld.
“Mhm. The Dwarf Empire is closest to the undead; if they strike first, they can suppress the undead’s growth and buy us more time.”
Another Bishop echoed.
“However, I worry about the Dwarves’ combat effectiveness. They are not followers of the Holy Light, so they don’t have much of an advantage against the undead.”
The Commander of the Temple Legion expressed a slight concern.
If the Dwarf army were converted into undead, the situation would only worsen, merely strengthening the undead forces for nothing.
At this point, the Commander of the Judgment Legion stood up, cleared his throat, and said, “I suggest sending the Gryphon units of the Imperial Guard to support the Dwarves and suppress the invasion first. Then, we can dispatch a combined knight regiment from all three legions; there shouldn’t be a problem with the timing.”
The others nodded in agreement with the Judgment Legion Commander’s words.
“Very well. We shall do exactly that. First, notify the Dwarf Emperor.”
The Pope gave the final word, and the matter was settled.
People began to leave one after another, leaving only the Saintess, the Director of the Heresy Inquisition, and the Pope.
“Monet, you should go back and rest as well. Do not forget to keep up with your training.”
“Yes, Your Holiness.”
Monet, who had only recently come of age, bid farewell to the Pope and the Director and left the Pope’s Hall.
Just as she closed the doors, the nun who had come to report found her.
“Lady Saintess, there is news!”
“Speak slowly. What is it?”
The nun relayed what Qin Yu had said to Monet.
Upon hearing Daisie’s name, Monet’s expression shifted.
“Where is this person! I must see him!”
Consequently, the nun immediately went out to find Qin Yu.
Qin Yu and the others were still waiting outside, bored.
“It’s taking so long…”
Yin Feixue was growing impatient and voiced her complaint.
“Don’t be in such a rush, Xiao Xue. They should be here soon.”
Qin Yu glanced toward the entrance.
Sure enough, the nun who had gone to report came running back in a hurry.
“You three, please follow me inside…”
The nun led Qin Yu’s group into the cathedral and brought them to a conference room.
“Lady Saintess is inside waiting for you.”
The doors opened to reveal a sacred young girl with short brown hair waiting in a seat.
She was Monet, the Saintess of the Holy See.
At this moment, she was taking a moment to read a book.
Snap.
The book suddenly closed as Monet walked toward Qin Yu and the others.
Before the nun could even introduce them, Monet asked directly, her eyes filled with urgency, “What exactly do you know regarding Saintess Daisie?”
It was rare to be this close to Saintess Monet, whom Qin Yu had seen a few times in his past life.
He walked past her and spoke.
“Ten years ago, during the Holy See’s war against the undead army, Saintess Daisie died after falling from a cliff due to exhaustion. That is how your final battle report reads, correct?”
Monet nodded.
“But in truth, you never found Saintess Daisie’s body…”
Qin Yu’s slow, deliberate way of speaking was making Monet frantic. She asked directly, “Have you seen Saintess Daisie?”
“No…”
“…”
Monet felt an immediate urge to strike Qin Yu with a Cross Punishment, but his next sentence provided a critical piece of information.
“But I know she is still alive, and I know roughly where she is and what she is doing…”
Qin Yu turned back toward Monet and continued.
“Severely wounded from the battle with the undead ten years ago, Saintess Daisie fell into the abyss. Fortunately, she didn’t die, but was carried away by the river to another location…”
Hearing this, Monet let out a small sigh of relief.
As long as Saintess Daisie was still alive, that was enough.
“Fortune depends on disaster; disaster lurks within fortune. Unfortunately, the half-dead Saintess Daisie was picked up by the Greenskins…”
“…”
The nun and Monet couldn’t help but shudder, their eyes now filled with grief and rage.
Monet’s fists clenched. “Then Saintess Daisie, she…”
“Exactly what you’re thinking. After being abducted by Greenskins, what kind of end could she possibly have? The only silver lining was that her physical constitution was better than average, allowing her to survive the cruel breeding process…”
Monet and the nun could no longer bear to listen to what Qin Yu said next.
To think a Saintess of the Church had fallen to such a state—how could their hearts not ache?
“I won’t dwell on the tragedies; I’ll only speak of what is important. After suffering such a massive blow, Saintess Daisie’s mind gradually warped. After giving birth to an exceptionally gifted goblin, she raised him. That goblin has now become the leader of the Green Forest Tribes. The fact that the Greenskin tribes have become increasingly cunning and difficult to deal with in recent years has everything to do with the teachings of this Goblin Emperor and Saintess Daisie…”
