Chapter 27: Living Under Someone Else’s Roof

Aside from [Aged Vinegar], who detested the opposite s*x, [Don Quixote]’s other three companions all added Qin Yu as a friend, much to her annoyance.

“What was your final evaluation rank?”

Sugar asked about Qin Yu’s character template.

“S. What about you?”

[Don Quixote] wanted to know the evaluation rank of this pro player; she assumed it would be higher than hers.

“It’s a secret.”

Qin Yu had no intention of revealing his aptitude. If word got out about having an Aptitude of 9, a horde of people would likely come knocking on his door, which would only bring him trouble.

“…”

Feeling cheated, [Don Quixote] really wanted to punch Qin Yu, but the vampire behind him was clearly no pushover, so she had to suppress her irritation.

“Brother Yu~ do you want to join our guild?”

[Rock Sugar Pear] began trying to recruit Qin Yu into their guild, which was supposed to only accept female players.

“Absolutely not!”

[Aged Vinegar] was the first to object. They had agreed on only female players; how could they try to recruit someone the moment they saw a handsome guy?

“Doesn’t your guild only accept female players? It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to join.”

In his past life, Qin Yu had heard of Sugar’s guild; they indeed only recruited women.

“How do you know that?”

[Don Quixote] was a bit dazed; how did Qin Yu know this when they had only just established the guild?

“I guessed.”

Qin Yu brushed it off with a random excuse. Although Sugar had her doubts, she didn’t overthink it. She had actually called out to him to ask for help regarding a [Territory Core].

“A [Territory Core]? I happen to have one right here…”

As soon as those words left his mouth, Sugar and her friends were stunned.

“Are you serious?”

“Brother Yu is so amazing~!”

[Don Quixote] believed he was telling the truth; after all, in her mind, Qin Yu was a top-tier player.

“Brother Yu! Can we stay in your territory for a while? We can help you build it!”

[Rock Sugar Pear]’s proactive nature was starting to feel a bit uncomfortable. [Aged Vinegar] was simply disdainful of associating with her.

As for Sugar, her thoughts were similar to Pear’s. She planned to learn the basics of territory construction from Qin Yu first, then strike out on her own once she obtained her own [Territory Core]. This way, she could avoid many pitfalls.

It was like wanting to start a business; you go to work at someone else’s shop to learn the trade before opening your own, so you don’t fail too miserably.

“As long as you’re willing to put in the work, it shouldn’t be a problem. I happen to be short on hands.”

To build a territory, he did indeed lack manpower in the early stages. Qin Yu only had the fifty children from the Blood Soul Realm monastery, and he felt somewhat bad about making them do all the labor.

Normal subjects would take about a week to arrive at the territory, so in the meantime, Qin Yu was very understaffed.

“That’s great!!!”

[Rock Sugar Pear] was the first to jump for joy.

“Then we won’t be polite. Once we get our own [Territory Core], we’ll move out.”

[Don Quixote] negotiated with Qin Yu as the guild leader. This wasn’t about being subordinates; it was a temporary partnership.

Having rested for a bit and logged back in, [Xiao Ya] stood at the church entrance, scanning the area with the expectation that she wouldn’t see Qin Yu again.

‘He’s not here, as expected…’

Unable to find him, [Xiao Ya] walked into the church alone. This game world had truly given her a second life, allowing her to live like a normal person.

“May the Holy Light guide you.”

A nun received [Xiao Ya], who gave a small bow in return.

Seeing [Xiao Ya]’s monk attire, the nun knew her purpose and got straight to the point.

“The Holy Light is willing to embrace those who believe in it. Before that, there is one thing I must state clearly.”

“Mhm.”

[Xiao Ya] nodded.

“The Holy Light brings brilliance to the world and dispels all evil. It represents the goodness of the world. To use its power, your heart must also uphold that goodness.”

“Mhm.”

“Light and darkness are opposites. As a believer in the Holy Light, you must never be tainted by darkness, or you will fall into the endless abyss.”

“Mhm.”

“As a follower of the Holy Light, you have the duty and responsibility to spread its brilliance to more people in need and guide them out of suffering.”

“Mhm.”

After a series of sermons and explanations from the nun, [Xiao Ya] successfully became a member of the Holy See, a [Tier 1 Believer of the Holy Light].

This was the basic class required to become an elite unit of the Church.

“Now, follow me. You need to make a choice between three paths…”

The induction ceremony wasn’t over. The Holy See had three different factions, and [Xiao Ya] had to choose one.

Generally, those like nuns belonged to the [Holy Light Faction], focusing on healing and support.

The [Judgment Faction] was famous for the Heresy Inquisition, responsible for purging heretics and evil; they focused on combat.

The [Divine Grace Faction] was also the Pope’s Faction; their duty was legion warfare, focusing on large-scale battles and defense.

Each of the three factions had its own specialized function.

For [Xiao Ya], the choice was obvious.

“I choose… the [Holy Light Faction]…”

“Then we are family from now on.”

The nun had likely guessed which faction the girl would choose. The kindness in her heart was only suited for the [Holy Light Faction].

“Now, let me take you to collect your things…”

Led by the nun, [Xiao Ya] arrived at a warehouse where uniforms and equipment were distributed.

[Xiao Ya] accepted her habit and gear. Her gaze fell upon the sword that came with the scepter, looking puzzled.

“As nuns, healing is our primary work, but that doesn’t mean we should neglect our combat abilities…”

Though called a nun, the full title was [Sword-bearing Nun], a low-level unit of the [Holy Light Faction]. Besides healing and support, they also possessed a certain degree of combat capability.

“Once your mana is depleted, you must rely on the sword for self-defense. You must remember this well.”

“Mhm.”

[Xiao Ya] silently memorized the nun’s words. After changing into her habit and gear, she officially became a [Sword-bearing Nun].

Only then did she realize that the nuns’ swords were hidden beneath their skirts. Combined with how light and nimble the blades were, it was no wonder she hadn’t noticed them before.

“Xiao Ya.”

A familiar voice called out to her. [Xiao Ya] turned around to see Qin Yu walking toward her, followed by a group of girls…

“It looks like you’ve finished your class change. Have you decided whether to stay at the Holy See or head out?”

Players could choose to stay in the service of the Church or head out to gain experience and build their own path, returning later when their strength grew to undergo higher-level class trials.

If a player had their own unit structure, it was a different story.

“I… want to stay here.”

[Xiao Ya] felt the atmosphere here was very pleasant and that everyone was friendly.

“It is indeed a good choice for a beginner. In that case, I’ll have to say goodbye. We’re leaving the Holy City. Let’s meet again when we have time.”

Hearing that Qin Yu was leaving, [Xiao Ya] felt a bit reluctant, but she nodded after seeing the group of girls behind him.

“Mhm.”

After bidding farewell to [Xiao Ya], Qin Yu and the others prepared to head out and find a good spot to establish a territory. Qin Yu already had a place in mind.

“Brother Yu, do you know that girl in real life?”

“I don’t. I met her in the game.”

“Oh, that’s good~ It looks like she’s a bit reluctant to see you go. Introverted girls always tend to rely on the first young man who proactively approaches them, especially a handsome guy like you, Brother Yu~”

“Thank you for the compliment.”

Sugar thought to herself that the girl named [Xiao Ya] seemed a bit strange.

Whenever she spoke, she instinctively reached out as if to gesture something, only to pull her hand back down. It felt awkward no matter how she looked at it…
