Chapter 6: A Demon’s Whisper

“Surprise~”

Su Yao stood by the side of the hospital bed, her gaze fixed on Lin Qing, whose eyes remained tightly shut.

After uttering the playful word, she lifted her hand, pulled a nearby chair closer, and settled onto it. Her upper body leaned forward, drawing her closer to Lin Qing until the soft cadence of their breaths became distinctly audible.

At such an intimate distance, Lin Qing knew he couldn’t afford to panic. He had to remain absolutely calm.

Yet, his body betrayed him, reacting instantly and involuntarily. The tremors resurfaced, completely beyond the control of his own will.

“My dear, you’re always so excited to see me. It’s truly embarrassing~”

Upon witnessing Lin Qing’s reaction, clearly triggered by her presence, Su Yao’s lips curved upward into an immediate smile. She resembled a child who had just been given an intriguing new toy, her mood bubbling with delight.

The words she uttered next, spoken with such a cheerful laugh, filled Wu Gang, who was listening from behind the curtain, with a potent mix of envy, jealousy, and pure resentment.

It was fortunate he had pulled the curtain shut in time, or he would have been force-fed a mouthful of their public display of affection.

To think this taciturn, ill-tempered young man actually had such a stunning girlfriend!

When the beautiful woman had first arrived directly at the ward, Wu Gang had assumed she’d mistaken the room. Yet, she had strode purposefully towards Lin Qing’s bed and, with a single word, addressed him as ‘my dear’!

Evidently, their relationship was intimate, leaving no room for the possibility of a mistaken ward.

But… why the incessant trembling?

Here in the hospital, with him as an obvious third wheel, what kind of games were these young people trying to play?

*Cough, cough*. They were truly audacious.

“Are you going to keep playing with me? If you don’t open your eyes, it won’t be fun anymore~”

While Wu Gang, ears perked, was secretly listening in, convinced the young couple was about to engage in some indecorous behavior, Lin Qing’s heart was, in fact, hammering wildly. It felt as though it might leap right out of his chest.

His trembling remained relentless, the violent shudders making the hospital bed creak and groan, as if it had suffered from years of neglect.

‘Why was Su Yao still haunting him, even within the confines of the hospital?’

Though Su Yao’s tone was soft and laced with mischief, to Lin Qing’s ears, it sounded like a demon’s insidious whisper.

Every single word was a veiled threat.

Faced with Su Yao, who possessed ten white skulls hovering above her, Lin Qing knew that continuing to feign ignorance would only provoke this seemingly rational madwoman.

Even though the skulls above Su Yao’s head hadn’t turned black, Lin Qing was absolutely certain this woman would eventually become a villain.

And not just any villain, but a heinous criminal, her hands stained with the blood of countless sins.

“That’s better, isn’t it? I’m so beautiful, how could you keep your eyes closed all this time~”

Immediately, upon seeing Lin Qing open his eyes, the smile on Su Yao’s lips became even more radiant.

She playfully reached up, intimately running her fingers through Lin Qing’s semi-long bangs. Her interest in the transfer student was now rocketing upwards at an astonishing speed.

It made Su Yao eager to draw closer to Lin Qing, hoping to uncover an even more intriguing facet of his personality.

‘It’s been so long since I’ve had a new toy~’

Perhaps it was the sheer extremity of his fear, but Lin Qing actually found himself calming considerably. The creaking of the hospital bed, a constant companion to his trembling, abruptly ceased.

Realizing he had no escape, Lin Qing fixed his gaze on Su Yao’s face, deliberately avoiding the area above her head. He desperately hoped she would leave the ward at once.

Lin Qing would rather have no one visit him at all than to endure the terrifying presence of Su Yao.

“How can you be so heartless! You know I’m not the type to meekly obey.”

In response to Lin Qing’s utterly powerless words, Su Yao ceased toying with his hair. Instead, she propped her chin on one hand, then blinked her large, expressive eyes at him.

She exuded youthful vitality, radiating a charming, innocent girliness.

Yet, it was also laced with a subtle hint of temptation.

However, in Lin Qing’s eyes, her expression was nothing short of demonic, utterly detestable.

‘His body seemed about to tremble uncontrollably again.’

“Don’t worry.”

Witnessing Lin Qing’s sudden burst of courage instantly revert to its original state, Su Yao suppressed the surge of delight within her. She decided it wouldn’t be appropriate to show her pleasure at this moment.

If she were to break her new toy, all the fun would be lost.

With that thought, she rose, leaning swiftly over Lin Qing, and whispered softly into his ear, ensuring Wu Gang, nearby, couldn’t overhear.

“Though I don’t know why you’re afraid of me, we have plenty of time to get to know each other.”

Her warm breath, accompanying her words, brushed against his ear, sending an inexplicable itch through him. It felt as though countless ants were crawling over his skin, making him desperately want to scratch.

As Su Yao spoke, her face was alight with an unmistakable expression of exhilaration.

‘Pretending to be a good child all day is so annoying!’

‘She wanted to kill, to destroy, to bring about death.’

Unfortunately, her brilliant mind not only afforded Su Yao exceptional development in all aspects of her life but also made her acutely aware that the consequence of crime was self-destruction.

There was no such thing as a perfect crime, especially not in modern society, which was saturated with surveillance cameras.

Of course, the powerful Comet Group backing her could even ensure an acquittal for murder.

However, as the only daughter and sole heiress, Su Yao refused to allow herself an indelible black mark on her record. Nor would she ever give others an opportunity to harbor ambitious designs.

It was precisely for these reasons that she had always kept her wild thoughts under control, effectively shackling them within her mind.

Her words, however, caused Lin Qing to freeze in place.

Aware that she had delivered quite a shock to Lin Qing today, Su Yao didn’t prolong the torment. Instead, she decisively uttered a temporary farewell.

Observing Lin Qing lying on the bed like a dead fish, utterly unresponsive, Su Yao knew her decision to visit the hospital had been entirely worthwhile.

‘She was looking forward to the future more and more!’

With a slight tremor of excitement, she raised her hands to cover her face. Su Yao had to suppress the burgeoning joy within her; her eyes, dark as ink, glittered with an unsettling light. She needed to swiftly reclaim her rapidly slipping rationality.

A delicious, gourmet dessert, after all, was meant to be savored bite by exquisite bite, not devoured in one gulp.

“Oh, right, be careful of that nurse named Li Mei. Don’t let her charm you away~ Also, this is my phone number. Don’t forget it again!”

Without further tormenting Lin Qing, Su Yao, having delivered her final words, immediately stepped out of the ward with light, quick steps.
