Chapter 51: The Unveiling of the Hero

“You’re right, we are very busy. If you have any questions, you can inquire at the police station; they have more information.”

Upon hearing Ye Lin’s words, the Principal immediately chimed in with a swift addition.

How could something that could bring honor to the school be considered insignificant?

Or perhaps, only incidents like Wang Fanran inciting students to harm others were deemed important?

In a negative sense, however, it was indeed an issue that could not be overlooked.

Having been repeatedly cornered and silenced by Ye Lin, the Mother of Wang Fanran finally realized that this man, dressed in an official’s uniform, held a grievance against her.

No matter what she said, it wouldn’t change anything.

She should hurry back and find someone to pull strings.

Yet, after being blocked for so long, to leave so abruptly left the Mother of Wang Fanran feeling utterly unwilling.

“Which police station are you from? Is this your standard of service? I’m going to complain to your superior!”

Growing increasingly indignant, the Mother of Wang Fanran spoke directly, ready to lodge a complaint.

These public servants held official positions; if someone reported them, the state would surely investigate!

She was a taxpayer, and she had every right to speak her mind!

“Pfft, after all this time, I forgot to introduce him! This Comrade Ye Lin is the Director of the Municipal Police Bureau Headquarters.”

When the Principal heard the Mother of Wang Fanran threaten to report them, he couldn’t help but let out a snort, then, suppressing his laughter, he introduced Ye Lin’s identity.

She wanted to report the Director of the Police Bureau?

Pfft.

Now, that would take some real nerve!

“We all serve the people.”

Ye Lin was initially bewildered by the Mother of Wang Fanran’s words, but once he understood, he found it utterly ridiculous.

Even if he weren’t the Director, she was free to complain.

An upright person fears no slander.

Upon hearing that Ye Lin was the Director, the Mother of Wang Fanran’s face stiffened, and she widened her eyes in disbelief, never imagining that Ye Lin could become a director at such a young age.

This was it. It was over.

Enraging the Director meant that no amount of connections would be of any use!

What was she to do?

In that moment, the Mother of Wang Fanran was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, wanting to say something but completely at a loss for words.

She yearned to slap herself, regretting her thoughtless words, which now could not be taken back.

“Principal, let’s hurry to the stadium. We shouldn’t keep the students waiting… Lin Qing, you come with us too.”

Ye Lin completely disregarded the regret on the Mother of Wang Fanran’s face, and after speaking to the Principal, he didn’t forget to remind Lin Qing.

Upon hearing this, the Principal immediately offered a forced smile and spoke.

“Director Ye, let’s go ahead. Student Lin Qing will follow us shortly.”

The Principal’s attitude towards Ye Lin was extremely cautious, like a mouse before a cat, needing to hold its breath.

There was no helping it; Ye Lin’s official position was too high. Anyone would be careful around him.

While speaking, the Principal didn’t forget to wink at Lin Qing, hoping the long-haired student would also say there was no need.

How could a student suddenly join their procession of leaders?

If Ye Lin was worried that Lin Qing might face difficulties later, at most, they could resolve it by taking him out of the Director of Discipline’s office.

However, meeting the Principal’s gaze, Lin Qing remained unresponsive.

He stood rooted to the spot.

This made the Principal frown, wondering why the student was so lacking in discernment, not even moving an inch.

“Principal, due to confidentiality, we couldn’t inform you beforehand… The student who fought against the serial killer was none other than Student Lin Qing, who helped us crack a major case with extremely adverse implications.”

However, as the Principal was thinking this, Ye Lin quickly interjected.

Upon hearing this, the Principal’s face froze. He hadn’t expected the student praised by the police to be Lin Qing!

The Principal’s first impression of Lin Qing was that he was too thin and small. Could such a student really have helped the police catch a serial killer?

No matter how he thought about it, it seemed highly improbable!

Yet, if Ye Lin said so, it was undeniable.

It was true.

The Mother of Wang Fanran, still lingering in the office, was even more greatly struck. She had never imagined that a student like Lin Qing would be the central figure of today’s commendation ceremony.

No wonder the Director of the Police Bureau viewed him in a different light and consistently defended Lin Qing in his words.

Blow after blow, appearing incessantly, left the Mother of Wang Fanran somewhat unable to cope.

However, no one present paid her any further mind; they swiftly left the office.

As one sows, so shall one reap.

She had brought it upon herself.

“Uncle Ye, why was a commendation ceremony suddenly called, and I wasn’t even aware of it myself?”

Walking towards the stadium, Lin Qing and Ye Lin advanced side by side, while the Principal and the Director of Discipline, understanding the situation, walked behind them, leaving space for the two to converse.

Simultaneously, they strained their ears to listen in.

Upon learning that Lin Qing was the student who had apprehended the serial killer, both the Principal and the Director of Discipline were utterly intrigued.

Originally, the person they had imagined would be a tall, burly sports student.

The reality, however, was completely different from their想象…

“This matter arose suddenly; I only just received the notification myself. When I tried to call you today, your phone was off, so we could only notify you at the last minute.”

Subsequently, listening to Ye Lin’s words, Lin Qing silently took out his phone.

Before entering the office, because he had just temporarily turned on his phone, he hadn’t noticed the missed call notifications, which was why he hadn’t realized something was amiss immediately.

In an instant, he grasped the crucial point.

Su Yao!!!

The incessant texting in the classroom earlier wasn’t out of boredom; it had a purpose. It was to make him intentionally turn off his phone so he couldn’t receive calls or messages.

Thereby missing contact from the police.

In that case, the ‘good show’ Su Yao had mentioned yesterday must have been this commendation ceremony.

Su Yao’s evasiveness was merely to lure him into a trap.

Like a cat toying with a mouse, she wouldn’t immediately kill it, but rather play with it, turning it over and over.

She wanted to watch him walk into the trap step by step, satisfying her peculiar preferences.

However, Su Yao couldn’t tolerate others invading her territory or touching her belongings, which was why she said she would come to save him…

The thought of Su Yao’s maliciousness made Lin Qing’s head ache.

He must have been an unforgivable villain in his previous life to encounter a woman like Su Yao in this one.

“But how did you end up with such a troublesome parent? If you ever encounter something like this again, you must call me immediately! Even if I’m in another city, I’ll fly back at once.”

Lin Qing’s silence did not make Ye Lin feel awkward.

At this point, Lin Qing occasionally responding was already a significant and welcome change.

After all, when they first met, Lin Qing had sat numbly in his chair, like a soulless puppet.

Just watching him had pained Ye Lin’s heart.

“I don’t know either; I was inexplicably dragged into it. Uncle Ye, are you here this time because of Su…”

However, just as Lin Qing was about to ask what Su Yao had done, their group had already arrived at the stadium.

The commendation ceremony was about to begin.
