Chapter 117: The Weight of Choice

Many words had been exchanged between them before this.

‘If you want to leave, go find her…’ Was that truly the case? Just who exactly was this person?

Ye Qing, her mind brimming with doubts, decided to voice her question directly.

“Indeed, why?”

As if anticipating Ye Qing’s confusion, Qin Yuqian offered a casual explanation.

“Because I have people above me.”

This explanation made Ye Qing’s eyelid twitch, yet she found no valid reason to refute it.

There truly wasn’t a flaw to be found, but it felt utterly preposterous no matter how she thought about it.

The organization must have been thoroughly infiltrated, like a structure eaten hollow by termites.

Who could have known that this insidious force was hiding in plain sight, even brazenly boasting to her that the higher-ups were also double-crossers?

Qin Yuqian’s description was so direct and unreserved, which only further underscored the undeniable certainty of the situation.

Ye Qing felt a shroud of gloom settle over her heart, her amber eyes gradually dimming with despair.

“So, what are you thinking now?”

Noticing Ye Qing’s wavering, Qin Yuqian grinned, her pink tongue slowly tracing her silver-white fangs.

“That depends on you.”

Meanwhile, at the entrance of the Magical Girl Academy, a group of strangely dressed individuals arrived.

They wore long white robes and towering black *tate-eboshi* hats, their faces obscured by solemn white masks. These masks bore no eye or mouth holes, only enigmatic runes painted in ink wash.

This time, the previous gatekeeper, who had leaked information, had been dismissed, replaced by a new, strong young man.

Upon seeing these peculiar visitors, the gatekeeper immediately moved to stop them. However, the masked woman leading the group suddenly produced a high-level identification from her waist.

She presented it without a word, her composed demeanor instantly causing the gatekeeper to hesitate.

Realizing his error, he quickly allowed them passage.

‘Just who were these important figures?’

A short while later, several individuals arrived at Duanmu Jin’s office, their unexpected visit surprising even her.

“Allow me to ask, esteemed members of the Corona, why such an abrupt arrival?”

“Even with your privileges, surely you could have given prior notice.”

“Our apologies. This mission is of critical importance and cannot be easily disclosed to others. Please understand.”

As she spoke, the masked woman retrieved a sealed small briefcase from a hidden compartment within her attire and opened it before Duanmu Jin.

Lying inside the briefcase was none other than Gu Xuanyu’s torn diary.

However, seeing the diary restored to an almost pristine condition, Duanmu Jin merely sneered inwardly.

‘Cannot be easily disclosed to others… Am I, at my level, considered ‘others’? Or are they simply worried I’ll interfere?’

“If it’s merely for transporting a medium, there’s no need for such elaborate measures, is there?”

Duanmu Jin’s gaze swept over the masked figures before returning to the leading woman, her pale golden pupils betraying a scrutinizing intent.

“Please understand the unique nature of our work, Miss Yinjin. We serve only the Association.”

This dismissive, formulaic retort, which also subtly jabbed at Duanmu Jin’s sore spot, instantly caused her composed demeanor to falter.

“Is that so? Yet this place is under my jurisdiction. If you act without reporting, it will cause significant trouble for my work. At that point, I may be forced to take necessary measures.”

“Rest assured, we understand.”

The masked woman replied calmly. For some inexplicable reason, Duanmu Jin sensed a hint of nonchalance beneath the mask.

‘She likely hasn’t absorbed a word of it. Bringing so many people to the Magical Girl Academy must mean they intend to take action…’

‘Things are starting to get troublesome.’

Duanmu Jin’s delicate brows furrowed, a trace of worry etched upon her face.

‘Is it truly because of Silver Moon? Was it their deliberate manipulation that made Silver Moon so eager to clear her into an absolutely safe zone, solely for establishing the Magical Girl Academy?’

‘But now that this place is about to return to my control, they’re clearly displeased.’

“Wait… I’ll handle it myself.”

Upon hearing this, the group exchanged glances.

“No need to trouble yourself, Miss Yinjin.”

“We will depart tonight. There’s no need to worry about us causing further incidents.”

‘Only staying here for a few hours? That makes it even more suspicious, as if they’re in a hurry to retrieve something.’

Duanmu Jin mused to herself, then a flash of insight struck her.

‘Could it be that Black-haired girl?’

But if that were truly the case, Duanmu Jin couldn’t interfere further, as it would most likely be the Association’s directive.

‘A secret can only be kept for so long.’

“Ye Qing, I’m curious: would you rather be a magical girl, or join an evil organization?”

As Ye Qing hesitated with tension, Qin Yuqian posed this peculiar question.

“Does it matter?”

Ye Qing, ever alert, avoided answering directly. Qin Yuqian’s question undoubtedly held some ulterior motive.

“If you don’t wish to answer, then don’t. You will have to make a choice soon enough.”

Qin Yuqian spoke casually, then suddenly changed the subject.

“Speaking of which, this matter might very well implicate your family…”

“You’re such a bastard!”

Ye Qing couldn’t help but interrupt Qin Yuqian, her amber eyes blazing as she stared at her. Yet, the latter maintained her serene composure.

“Don’t look at me like that. This was destined to happen the moment you joined an evil organization.”

“Oh,” Ye Qing responded, displeased. “You don’t need to remind me, especially since you’re clearly toying with me.”

In truth, Ye Qing had initially worried about implicating others, especially when An Yueying first mentioned Ye Yu to her.

It was then that Ye Qing understood: the moment Silver Moon made their move, she was likely already deeply mired in this quagmire, inevitably dragging those around her into it.

Fortunately, Ye Yu’s home in Mo Prefecture was not under the Association’s jurisdiction.

However, there was no guarantee that Mo Prefecture was devoid of their informants.

Ye Yu was just an ordinary person; manipulating her would be effortless, perhaps even a few street thugs would suffice.

Therefore, Ye Qing’s only recourse was to acquire enough power to protect her, rather than being pampered like a caged bird as she was now.

“I have no intention of toying with you. On the contrary, I have an excellent proposition.”

Qin Yuqian spoke with a smile, like a blooming Red Spider Lily, her words carrying a fatal allure.

“Go on. I’ll treat it as hot air.”

Ye Qing retorted with equal defiance, using coarse language. Yet, at this moment, she could only follow the other’s rhythm.

“You remember your test results, don’t you? A pure magical energy index of 101. Honestly, I was quite surprised; this wasn’t the result of any tampering on my part.”

Upon hearing this, Ye Qing’s eyes narrowed, a sense of unease creeping into her heart.

“You’re not going to say…”

Qin Yuqian spread her hands, her smile fading as she returned to an extremely calm and indifferent state.

“Precisely. What I want to ask is—do you want to become a magical girl?”
