Chapter 121: A Second Wish

The long coat flapped wildly in the wind as the purple-haired woman extended a hand towards Ye Qing.

Her pale palm, pristine as jade beneath the moonlight, beckoned with an alluring, phosphorescent glow in her violet eyes, a silent invitation.

Ye Qing remained speechless for a moment, then picked up her cake and gently took An Yueying’s hand.

“You arrived just in time.”

“I’m delighted to hear you praise me, my dear.”

Yet, uncharacteristically, Ye Qing offered no retort to An Yueying’s words. She simply accepted them.

Not only would she finish this cake, but she would also move on to another place to continue indulging.

Ye Qing pressed her lips together, yet her mouth couldn’t help but curve upwards. Fearing An Yueying might discern her thoughts, she had to lower her head, though she couldn’t resist a quick glance at the woman’s flawless face, framed in shadow.

‘Damn her allure,’ she thought. ‘Though, she’s still a little short of my own charm.’

“Why the sudden early arrival?”

An Yueying had spoken of tomorrow night, yet she was here now. This made one wonder if she had been secretly lurking within the academy.

But the answer was no. An Yueying had arrived as an intruder, which meant she would soon face a siege.

“Because I knew that if I waited any longer, I might not be able to fetch you.”

An Yueying was adept at waiting, but she never waited in vain. Sensing Ye Qing’s hesitation, she had changed her mind.

Her presence today was more akin to a forceful abduction, hence her blatant, undisguised approach.

Meanwhile, in Duanmu Jin’s office, Gu Xuanyu sat opposite her, propping her chin with her hand, her face etched with worry.

On the table lay the diary, her former medium.

To an ordinary person, it was merely an exquisite notebook. However, Gu Xuanyu could clearly perceive the soft white light emanating from its surface, flowing continuously towards her, resonating with the pure demonic energy within her body.

Yet, she was in no hurry to connect with it. Her wine-red eyes, usually dazzling like gems, now appeared dim.

“It’s repaired. Won’t you take a look? These should be very important memories.”

Duanmu Jin pushed the diary towards Gu Xuanyu, completely unguarded. She seemed unconcerned that Gu Xuanyu might seize the opportunity to snatch the medium.

Not all Magical Girls were benevolent, and there was always the possibility of corruption. There had been instances of Magical Girls forcibly taking mediums, leading to nearly half of the evil cadres from the confinement prison being released. Many of them still roamed free.

However, Duanmu Jin did not believe Gu Xuanyu was such a person. She trusted her own judgment.

Seeing Gu Xuanyu’s prolonged silence, Duanmu Jin seemed to guess the source of her distress.

“Are you thinking about Ye Qing again?”

Gu Xuanyu nodded. There was no point in hiding it.

Duanmu Jin and Gu Xuanyu had conversed extensively these past few days. With permission, Duanmu Jin had also read Gu Xuanyu’s novel, gaining a certain understanding of her relationship with Ye Qing.

While Duanmu Jin did not wish to meddle in their complex emotions, she could offer her own insights.

“She likes you too, right?”

“Yes.”

Gu Xuanyu’s eyes focused, and she gave an affirmative reply without hesitation.

“But I always sense an underlying anxiety in you, as if you fear she might leave you, or that her affection for you isn’t what you truly desire.”

Gu Xuanyu nodded slightly, remaining silent, but the anxiety Duanmu Jin spoke of was evident in her subtly trembling pupils.

“So, do you wish for her happiness, or do you wish more for her to stay by your side?”

Gu Xuanyu’s eyelashes fluttered. She initially wanted to choose the former but found the answer incredibly difficult to utter.

“Can’t these two things exist simultaneously?”

‘Can’t these two things… exist at the same time?’

‘Of course they can, but you actually want to monopolize her, don’t you?’

Duanmu Jin’s clear voice, sharp as a frost blade, grazed Gu Xuanyu’s ear, forcing her to acknowledge this truth.

However, Duanmu Jin spoke not to lecture, but to guide Gu Xuanyu in confronting her own heart more effectively.

‘There’s no shame in it. Love is possessive; everyone wishes their beloved would forever gaze upon them. Yet, at the same time, love and giving are reciprocal. You must understand this too, right?’

Gu Xuanyu nodded, seemingly misunderstanding Duanmu Jin’s intent. She was about to speak, but Duanmu Jin interrupted her.

“I understand. You’ve always hoped to reciprocate her devotion, just as you wished for initially. But have you noticed that Ye Qing’s love for you is quite unique?”

Gu Xuanyu paused, falling silent.

“Her love is different from yours. She’s the kind of person who is willing to give selflessly, without expecting anything in return. Anyone who treats her well, she’s willing to return with almost infinite kindness, solely wishing for their happiness.”

But this also meant she was difficult to truly belong to any one person.

“She’s someone who doesn’t know how to refuse. Even if your attitude were more forceful, she would most likely accept. So, what are your thoughts on this?”

Duanmu Jin retrieved Gu Xuanyu’s other medium. Compared to the black leather-bound diary, this notebook, used for her novel, was relatively simpler, with a white, lacquered cover.

Its radiance was also considerably dimmer than the diary’s, as it had not yet been fully activated by a wish.

This implied that when Gu Xuanyu confronted the purified Chi that day, she wasn’t at full strength; she might not even have been able to exert a third of her power.

“I believe, for you, it’s time to consider a second wish.”

Gu Xuanyu suddenly looked up, her eyes entangled with complex emotions.

“You can use a wish to fulfill your love for Ye Qing. I won’t condemn you; that is your freedom.”

“But if I did that… would she truly be happy?”

Duanmu Jin gazed calmly at Gu Xuanyu, as if intending to see straight into her heart.

“Would she be happier with someone else? You must love her more deeply than anyone else.”

If she lacked even that confidence, then she truly should let Ye Qing go.

Gu Xuanyu firmly nodded, but after a moment’s thought, she shook her head.

“But if that were the case, I would never again receive her genuine love—or rather, I would never know if she loved me because of magic or from the heart.”

Upon hearing this, Duanmu Jin’s golden eyes brightened, a hint of approval entering her gaze.

“You are correct. However, wishes are not twisted; everything will be realized according to your intentions. This is unequivocally true, so you don’t need to worry about such a thing.”

At these words, the silver-haired girl seemed somewhat swayed. If that were the case, she truly wouldn’t want to yield Ye Qing to anyone else.

But just as Duanmu Jin had said, Ye Qing’s thoughts might not align with her own…

As Gu Xuanyu pondered, a piercing shriek ripped through the sky, instantly drawing her gaze to the window.

What followed was an aura of dark magic so potent it sent shivers down one’s spine.

Simultaneously, a dazzling silver light shot up from the ground, soaring towards the heavens, intercepting the falling star-like points.

It was none other than Fading Star, the grey-haired girl wielding a long spear.

And the one she intercepted was her old acquaintance, with whom she had fought not long ago. However, the Pink-haired woman now wore a maid-style qipao, having lost her previous sharp demeanor.

Luo Huayin bit her lip, a flicker of impatience stirring within her as she looked at her opponent.

She had lost interest in Fading Star. She knew that even if she defeated this grey-haired girl, there would still be an insurmountable mountain—the purple-haired woman who had utterly crushed her.
