Chapter 135: The Missing Memory

Mo Yinling put away the cigarette case, her fingers still stiff in her pocket.

“Tsk, that little girl’s hypnosis is actually something.”

She exhaled a mouthful of acrid white smoke, leaning against the wall. In Mozhou, working in such a high-pressure industry, one needed some diversion. At least she hadn’t picked up hypnosis yet.

Just as she was enjoying this moment of peace, a phone call suddenly came.

Looking at the number on the screen, Mo Yinling bit the cigarette holder lightly, her expression turning impatient. She didn’t want to answer. It was another job assignment.

“Let me make it clear first—if you’re occupying my time this late, you’ll have to pay.”

Whatever the other party said, Mo Yinling’s gloom immediately turned to delight.

“That’s more like it. If only you’d said that earlier… You want me to keep an eye on that woman named An Yueying from the tea party? Forget it.”

She still wanted to avoid dying young; she hadn’t saved so much money just to leave it as an inheritance.

“And, who is Ye Qing? You can’t make things this difficult. Mozhou is huge—how many Ye Qings are there? Where am I supposed to find one for you? …You have a picture? Let me see.”

Mo Yinling received the image, staring at the familiar black-haired girl in the picture. She gazed silently for a moment, then took a deep breath.

This really was a case of ‘effortlessly getting what you want.’

Before the plaque outside the western-style building, Ye Yu stopped.

“This is a tea house?”

Ye Qing blinked, surprised that the tea party wasn’t well-known at all, and then smoothly started telling a little white lie: “Yes, inside are all big sisters who know the way of tea.”

In reality, only Green Tea was proficient in the tea ceremony; the new generation were all heretics who ordered Wang’s Snow Pearls.

As she pushed open the door, many curious eyes converged on the entrance, including a blue-haired and a pink-haired girl.

The two of them jumped down from their chairs in unison and approached Ye Qing. Tang Nuo deliberately adjusted her glasses, a faint blush creeping onto her cheeks.

“Ye Qing, this is…”

“Her name is Ye Yu. She’s my younger sister.”

Ye Qing lowered her voice, but the two could still hear clearly.

‘So she’s our sister-in-law!’

And so, Ye Yu was dazedly invited to the table and handed a cup of Peach Four Seasons Spring—clearly, the two were also reformers.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Lin Shaoyao, a friend of Ye Qing’s.”

The pink-haired girl said with a smile, while Tang Nuo beside her was very shy, unsure of what to say, not daring to glance at Ye Yu, so she simply took off her glasses.

Ye Qing looked at the delicate glasses, puzzled.

“Xiao Nuo, did you wear glasses before?”

“Uh, well… Sister An had them made for me. She said they could enhance my combat power.”

Tang Nuo was, as always, not good at lying, but some things she was too shy to say outright even when pressed.

Unlike Ye Qing, she and Lin Shaoyao hadn’t been targeted by CCB, so coming to Mozhou only required an excuse of traveling.

After just a few days here, they were already shocked by everything in Mozhou, so completely different.

Logically, since this wasn’t CCB’s controlled area, relations with Jinzhou should have been tense, with mutual vigilance like enemy nations, but surprisingly, exchanges between the two states were very relaxed.

However, the differences between states were huge, and each was vast; most people never left their home state in their lifetime—in fact, it could be said that the concept of tourism didn’t even exist in this world.

The people of Jinzhou viewed Mozhou as a dangerous area with chaotic public security, while Mozhou people considered Jinzhou a backward, impoverished region. Neither thought much of the other.

So neither of them said they had come to Mozhou; they could only pretend to be going to Yuzhou, the other side.

Tang Nuo was always the type that made people worry, and her family kept a close watch, so she had to ask An Yueying to reimburse a plane ticket to Yuzhou, but in the end, she flew over on her own small wings, occasionally sending messages to her family to report she was safe.

Even Tang Nuo herself, upon first arriving, worried about encountering human traffickers in Mozhou, being tied up in some compound and shocked with electric batons. Clearly, Miss Nuomi Tang hadn’t yet gotten used to her current identity.

But soon, the two were completely immersed in life in Mozhou. As the saying goes, it’s easy to go from frugality to luxury…

There was no helping it—every kind of entertainment here far exceeded Jinzhou. Even the magical girl content that Tang Nuo loved was abundant in Mozhou, and it was even more thrilling.

Even the movies An Yueying had made in the past were mostly imported from Mozhou—after all, in Jinzhou, that kind of thing was illegal.

Jinzhou could publish Liu Qingruo’s little adult books and didn’t restrict Ye Qing’s illustrations, but when it came to magical girls, the regulations were quite strict.

In a sense, it was only here that Tang Nuo truly found what she liked.

As for Lin Shaoyao… she enjoyed it even more.

Put simply, she could find money just walking down the street now.

Her intuition for seeking advantage and avoiding harm was especially effective in Mozhou. Compared to the rule-abiding Jinzhou, the opportunities here were far greater, allowing her to maximize her abilities.

Even without the tea party’s allowance, she was already a proper little rich woman. She had won from most of Mozhou’s casinos and had now been blacklisted by all of them.

But Mozhou was perfect in every way, except that Ye Qing wasn’t there.

So as soon as Ye Qing arrived, she was thoroughly pestered, but now she had Ye Yu to help draw fire—after all, everyone wanted to get on good terms with the ‘sister-in-law’.

Ye Yu accepted this enthusiasm without being pretentious. From Ye Qing’s attitude toward her, she could vaguely sense that their relationship wasn’t simple—most likely she wasn’t a secret little sister.

…If it were true, she should be the older sister now.

If she had to choose, she actually preferred having an older sister, especially one so petite, cute, and gentle.

‘Brother…’

Ye Yu murmured softly to herself. Whenever those two words reached her ears, it felt like a heavy hammer striking her consciousness, filling her with unease.

It was as if some familiar yet alien instinct was about to awaken within her, helping her recall the connection between those words and herself.

But Ye Yu didn’t remember ever having a brother, not even a cousin her age. She was an only child. If anything, there was that annoying silver-haired person who often came over.

Before she turned fifteen, she lived with her mom in Jinzhou. Although her dad was often away for work in Mozhou, she still had her mom to take care of her.

That Gu Xuanyu was clearly ‘someone else’s child,’ but she came over every day to freeload meals, always stealing my chicken drumsticks. When she was around, my older brother wouldn’t even serve me food… Huh?

Ye Yu blinked blankly, as if she had grasped something, but soon that elusive feeling slipped away from her consciousness, leaving only emptiness.

I seem to have forgotten something, something very important…
