Chapter 143: A Heavenly Hand and a Fool’s Fortune

In fact, Ye Qing’s ability worked on witches too, but Mo Yinling was different—her ability could see through Ye Qing’s concealment.

However, Ye Qing’s ability wasn’t invisibility. She merely erased her own presence. That is, she didn’t vanish from others’ sight; she stood right before them, but they simply couldn’t notice her existence.

This meant that from Mo Yinling’s perspective, Ye Qing was like the foolish emperor parading naked through the streets, swaggering back and forth right in front of her, peeking at her hand.

Yet everyone else treated her as if she were air, their gazes never lingering on the girl for even a moment, as if she were an invisible ghost. They didn’t even realize she was toying with their chips…

Mo Yinling subtly shielded her pitiful stack of chips, her pretty face full of vigilance.

‘I hope this girl doesn’t decide to mess with me.’

If it weren’t for her mission, she would have toyed with the little girl. Unfortunately, Ye Qing was a key observation target—she couldn’t do anything reckless.

But in a sense, Ye Qing was also her lucky star. Her arrival meant that Mo Yinling had finally received payment from the organization after a long time.

So tonight, Miss Mo had come to the Water Moon Tower to splurge once again, even if the start wasn’t so wonderful.

After drawing tiles, Mo Yinling’s hand, hidden beneath her sleeve, gently brushed over the red chips. She pinched the bottom one and slid it upward, letting the chips slip through her fingers and fall onto the green table, clinking lightly.

The sound was quite pleasant, making her unconsciously narrow her beautiful eyes.

In the brief interval of drawing tiles, she had already sorted her hand. For a veteran like her, this was merely basic skill. Judging by her relaxed expression, she had drawn a satisfying hand.

So, soon a little ghost of a perfect hand appeared behind her.

Then another ghost of a tile appeared.

Ye Qing poked her head out from behind Mo Yinling’s shoulder, curiously looking on.

‘What good hand is that? Let me see.’

Mo Yinling pretended not to notice, helplessly picking up her chips and tapping them rapidly on the table edge, urging Liu Qingruo, who still hadn’t even figured out her tiles.

The red-haired girl was currently looking troubled, clumsily and carefully pinching the white jade tiles that made her dizzy.

Even though she had imitated the others and stood her tiles in a row before her, it didn’t help her understand them.

“Miss, if you really can’t figure it out, just play any tile,” the person beside her urged in a flat tone. Judging by her look, her luck seemed mediocre, and she was eager to draw.

Fortunately, Liu Qingruo didn’t fall for that. As long as no one set a time limit, she could continue stalling without any psychological burden.

‘What if I lose Ye Qing’s money? I couldn’t even pay it back if I sold myself… Bah, I could, but I’m not here for that!’

Forced into a corner, Liu Qingruo cast a pleading look toward Ye Qing. Mo Yinling, whose form almost overlapped with Ye Qing’s, keenly noticed her plea.

‘So this little Ye Qing girl can control the concealment effect? What a convenient ability. If I had it, I’d just rob a vault…’

‘Of course, a gang’s vault. Robbing a bank would cause too much trouble later.’

“So, sis, if you have a scattered hand, just play any tile…” Mo Yinling chimed in with urging when she suddenly caught a flash of astonishment on the black-haired girl’s face behind Liu Qingruo.

Ye Qing had already started helping Liu Qingruo sort her tiles, and the more she sorted, the more shocked she became.

‘This hand… wasn’t it shuffled?’

Even someone as calm as her couldn’t help raising an eyebrow, unable to hide her delight.

On the other side, Mo Yinling sensed something was off from her expression and grew wary.

Although she hadn’t obtained Ye Qing’s file (apparently all written records had vanished, with only a few pictures remaining), her contact had told her that the little girl was an exceptionally calm type—the so-called “sanwu” girl. For her to show such an expression, it must be a big hand.

‘But so what? Hmph, I have a tenpai for a heavenly hand. As long as I draw one tile from the wall, with my incredible luck, I’m sure to win this round…’

Mo Yinling narrowed her eyes into slits, looking at the tiles on the wall stacked as obediently as quails, trying to foresee what tile she would draw.

She saw it clearly. If nothing unexpected happened, within one draw, she would get that winning tile and achieve an “earthly hand” (TL: winning on the first discard).

Then, hehe, the two little girls would be left crying!

Mo Yinling couldn’t help but curl her lips, unable to suppress her growing excitement. The shadow of missing out on a “Thirteen Orphans” due to a stolen win was swept away, replaced by surging exhilaration.

‘Hurry up and play, hurry up…’

Mo Yinling grew impatient waiting. She looked at Ye Qing, who was still secretly helping Liu Qingruo sort her tiles, and felt a little annoyed. She picked up the cappuccino from the side tea table and took a big gulp.

‘What’s there to sort? It’ll be over when my turn comes. You can’t just show your hand directly, can you?’

‘With fourteen tiles, if you can beat me instantly, I’ll eat this mahjong table on the spot!’

“WINN!”

Liu Qingruo’s lively voice exploded in Mo Yinling’s mind like a bomb. Even she herself was half-dazed.

Though she didn’t understand much, Ye Qing said it was a “heavenly hand” (TL: winning on the initial draw), so she happily pushed her tiles down.

If this weren’t at a mahjong table but in a mahjong software, Liu Qingruo’s hand would have shot up to the sky with flashy effects.

A heavenly hand, and also “no terminals or honors” (TL: no 1, 9, or honor tiles). But with a heavenly hand, whether it had terminals or not didn’t matter—it only added salt to Mo Yinling’s wound.

Counting the points…

The other two reluctantly handed over sixteen chips each, sighed at their bad luck, and left the table, leaving only Mo Yinling, once again petrified, and Liu Qingruo, whose nose was almost pointing to the sky.

“Hehe, though I don’t really understand, it seems I’m a mahjong expert. My tile-drawing skill is superb.”

Ye Qing nodded repeatedly in approval, while Mo Yinling lay crying on the mahjong table.

‘There’s no skill in drawing tiles! You weren’t cheating… well, even if you were, you’d drool! It’s just pure dumb luck!’

Compared to the previous “stolen win with no terminals,” Liu Qingruo was clearly a noob who didn’t even understand mahjong, but her strong luck was too much. They say fools have fortune…

‘Indeed, fools have fortune. The type that can be lured into bed with a cup of instant noodles.’

“I don’t accept it, I don’t accept it…”

Hearing Mo Yinling’s lament, Liu Qingruo was merciless.

“Cry? Crying counts as time! Hurry up and hand over your losses!”

Who would have thought that when Mo Yinling straightened up, the chips in front of her had mysteriously disappeared.

“Um… actually, I don’t have any chips left. Can we negotiate other terms?”
