Chapter 134: The Hypnotist’s Secret

“What are you even saying?” (Sasuke shock face)

Ye Qing wanted to get up and correct her, but then she thought of all the suffering Ye Yu had endured over the years, and her momentum faded.

‘Yeah, after all, I’ve been absent for so long. What right do I have to lecture her now?’

‘Being a little bad is fine—it helps her protect herself.’

“You listened to me, never hid anything. Alright, you can open your eyes now.”

Ye Yu clapped her hands, and Lao Mo snapped his eyes wide open. There was no grogginess of just waking up in his gaze—only a mechanical emptiness.

Ye Yu wasn’t surprised by this result. She hadn’t truly awakened him; she’d only made him open his eyes while under hypnosis.

[Hypnosis Subject: Mo Jinbao]

[Hypnosis Status: Identity “Dog”; consumes 1 MP per minute to maintain, max duration 60 minutes.]

[Extended Function: Simple commands, each consumes 1 MP.]

[Current MP: 55]

Different identity recognitions, though consuming the same MP and having the same success rate, differed in specific effects and duration.

Self-identification like “dog” couldn’t last too long—waking him might directly break the spell. Fortunately, the extended function existed.

But until she figured out how to replenish MP, Ye Yu wouldn’t easily waste the remaining mana. She used it now only for interrogation.

After all, if she didn’t get to the bottom of this assassin matter, it would hang over her head like the Sword of Damocles, robbing her of peace.

“Answer my questions as concisely as possible from now on. Nod if you understand.”

Lao Mo mechanically nodded, then naturally sat on the ground in a dog-sitting pose, making Ye Yu chuckle in spite of herself.

‘Still an old dog.’

“First, tell me, who is this guy?”

Lao Mo answered without hesitation, his voice completely flat, though inexplicably mixed with some panting sounds.

“A reliable assassin, codename ‘Zheng Tu.’ Usually does white glove jobs.”

‘White glove jobs?’

‘White glove? Meaning there’s someone big behind the scenes, huh.’

“Do you know who he’s working for lately? And what are his responsibilities?”

“I know. His client is Wang Bing, but I don’t know the specifics of the job.”

“Who is Wang Bing?”

“The most famous hypnotist in Mozhou.”

Ye Yu’s eyes darkened. ‘So it’s a feud between rivals?’

But no matter what, it shouldn’t have escalated to this level. The Beicheng Hypnosis House had been closed for so long—it couldn’t have posed a threat to him.

“How can I find him?”

“His work area is on floors eleven to thirteen of the Water Moon Tower. He often appears there.”

The Water Moon Tower was the shorter of the Twin Towers; the other was called the Golden Sun Tower.

Ye Yu frowned slightly. She’d gotten an answer, but she couldn’t do anything to him for now.

‘It’s not like I can just walk in blasting hypnosis audio. Come on, he’s the most famous hypnotist. Obviously that kind of trick wouldn’t work on him.’

Ye Yu shook her head. There was no point in asking further, so she ended the interrogation.

“Now, close your eyes. When you open them again, forget everything you did while under hypnosis.”

Seeing Lao Mo nod woodenly, Ye Yu reached into the inner pocket of his coat.

‘Since I’ve already hypnotized him, I might as well take some cash from this swindler.’

But the moment she reached out, Lao Mo suddenly backed away, as if evading. Ye Yu’s brows snapped together. She grabbed him by the collar, forcing him to stay still.

Yet after fumbling for a long while, she still couldn’t find the inner pocket. Stubbornly, she just asked outright.

“Where’s your money? Hand it over!”

This time, Lao Mo’s voice carried obvious reluctance, but bound by hypnosis, he ultimately confessed honestly.

“Right here…”

Ye Yu pulled out his wallet. It was flimsy, with no weight at all, making her doubt his tone.

When she opened it, there were only a pitiful three hundred yuan, plus the five yuan Ye Qing had given earlier, neatly arranged inside.

Ye Yu’s mouth twitched. ‘So this guy only had about a thousand on him? Then how did he have the nerve to quote five thousand?’

“No way it’s just this much. Where’s the rest?”

“That’s all. The rest is fake money.”

He couldn’t lie while hypnotized.

Ye Yu bit her lower lip hard, wanting to slap this treacherous bastard. But to avoid breaking the hypnosis, she swallowed her anger.

‘As expected, people in these grey areas have no credibility at all!’

“Xiao Qing, let’s go. We need to move out tonight.”

Ye Qing silently followed Ye Yu to the electric scooter, her eyes downcast, thick lashes hiding her thoughts.

A moment later, she touched the pistol tucked at her waist, seeming to have an idea.

“Xiao Yu, I won’t go back with you.”

Ye Yu’s expression froze. She turned to look at Ye Qing. The black-haired girl stood with her back to the bar’s lights, head slightly bowed, cheeks hidden in shadow, her expression unreadable.

She could tell Ye Qing was planning to do something big.

Though she didn’t understand why—they’d only just met—Ye Qing was willing to go this far. But Ye Yu didn’t want her to take risks for her.

“No. You have to stay and protect me.”

Ye Qing was taken aback. The slender fingers on the pistol slowly loosened. After a moment’s hesitation, she steadied herself.

“Then we won’t go home tonight. We’ll go somewhere else—somewhere safer… Trust me, okay?”

Ye Yu didn’t answer immediately. The white smoke from her cigarette drifted away and dispersed into the distance.

After a moment, she mounted the scooter and inserted the key.

“Let’s go back first. I have things to pack.”

Ye Qing’s eyes lit up. She quickly sat behind Ye Yu. The girl’s response was faint, but it warmed her heart.

Unable to resist the urge for closeness, she gently wrapped her arms around Ye Yu’s waist and nuzzled against her slender back.

“Heh, Xiao Yu is so good.”

Feeling the strange touch behind her, Ye Yu instinctively straightened her back but said nothing.

‘Feels like I’ve picked up a clingy black cat.’

Shortly after they left, Lao Mo, still lying on the ground, suddenly opened his eyes wide. The first thing he did was check his wallet.

‘Tsk, completely empty.’

Clutching the wallet, he bit his lip in pain, then sighed helplessly.

‘Ah, faking hypnosis isn’t new to me, but getting robbed is a first… I almost broke character.’

He took out the half-smoked cigarette from his pocket and brought it to his lips. But just before lighting it, as if realizing something, he didn’t press the lighter.

Then, in the shadows, his originally tall figure twisted unnaturally until he became as petite as Ye Qing. His coat had somehow turned into a brown leather jacket identical to Ye Yu’s.

Same cheap, durable, warm yet stylish—common low-end attire in Mozhou.

She expertly tucked her short chestnut hair behind her ear, then lit the half cigarette.

‘Sigh, this counts as a work expense. I’ll have to get reimbursed by the organization, or I can’t even afford cigarettes.’

Meanwhile, Ye Yu’s hypnosis system suddenly issued an alert.

[“Unknown error detected. Calibrating data…”]

[“Hypnosis Subject: Mo Yinling, connection lost.”]
