Join the ServerThe window was wide open, letting the cold wind pour straight in, making Ye Yu shiver involuntarily.
Clearly, the uninvited guest hadn’t bothered to conceal their arrival, but from the moment they entered until they left, Ye Yu, sitting in the living room, hadn’t noticed a thing.
Behind a professional killer, there was an even more professional cleanup crew…
But since they had such capabilities, why not just take me away? Were they afraid of my hypnosis?
Ye Yu walked to the window and looked out. The street was silent, cold and desolate. Beside the road sat a covered “zombie car” that hadn’t moved in years. The streetlights cast a dim yellow glow, barely dispelling the thick shadows.
Ye Yu lived in a low-rise building, one of those remote low-rent apartments. Her parents had paid three years’ rent in advance, and it had just come time to renew—money was tight everywhere.
But even so, there was no convenient foothold nearby that could be used to leap up. And on the dusty windowsill, there wasn’t even a single footprint, as if the person had floated in from the air without ever touching the ground.
When Ye Yu tried to check on Zhai Ping through the hypnosis app again, the only thing displayed was the message: “Zhai Ping (Deceased).”
Suppressing her nausea, she took another look at the man’s bluish-black dead face, and her own expression turned ugly.
“And he left the body for me to deal with. Does he really think I’m some kind of criminal too?”
Hearing this, Ye Qing, who had slowly come up behind Ye Yu, couldn’t help but turn her head away in shame.
The little rascal was law-abiding, but she, the big sister who had always loved to boss her around, had actually joined an evil organization and run wild.
If Xiao Yu ever found out, she would definitely use it as leverage to mock her.
But for now… since Xiao Yu hadn’t recognized her, she’d better deal with this first.
With her ability, Ye Qing could also do it without leaving a trace—she just had to avoid direct contact, since her power couldn’t cover the man’s body.
“Let me see.”
Ye Qing reached out to touch the man, but found that with just a gentle tug, the hemp ropes binding him snapped apart. The break points were exactly where his hands had been tied.
Upon closer inspection, a chill ran down Ye Qing’s spine. At the man’s unremarkable cuffs, tiny glints of cold steel were visible.
Even his cuffs were embedded with blades. This guy was truly dangerous. Good thing he was already dealt with. If he had secretly freed himself and hidden behind the door waiting for them…
Ye Yu had noticed this too. The two girls exchanged glances, both feeling a lingering fear.
Ye Qing turned over the man’s corpse and soon found a lightweight pistol with spare ammunition in his pocket. At his lower back was a grenade disguised as a water bottle, and a dagger was hidden on his leg.
In a hidden layer of his clothing was a card holder containing various IDs. The photos matched the man, but under the false name of Zhai Zheng.
Clearly dressed in plain clothes, he was armed to the teeth. If pushed into a corner, the consequences would have been unimaginable. But now, it all benefited Ye Qing.
This was far better than being unarmed—it was like a pillow arriving just as she felt sleepy.
Ye Qing had been worrying that her strength wasn’t enough. Even if she could dodge attacks, she couldn’t effectively harm her enemies. Now this guy had delivered weapons. Too bad the ammunition was limited—she’d have to use it sparingly.
She tried gripping the pistol, aiming. The feel was decent. The suppressor on the muzzle made her eager to fire a test shot.
After watching all those gunfight movies, who wouldn’t want to experience the thrill of holding a gun and shooting?
Ideally, she’d weave ghostlike through a hail of bullets, precisely control each round to graze past her, then appear before the enemy, draw her gun, aim at the center of his forehead, and—”Bang!”
Lost in her fantasy, Ye Qing’s eyes grew distant. Her image was somewhat close to the young protagonist girl from “Léon: The Professional,” but unfortunately, she was still a complete rookie in this regard.
Beside her, Ye Yu was playing with the dagger. Unlike Ye Qing, she preferred cold weapons—especially the sharp whistle of a blade cutting through the air. She found it utterly addictive.
At first glance, they looked like a pair of assassin sisters. Even though this was their first time being this close to a corpse, they quickly adapted. Paired with their ink-black hair, darker than the shadows, the image was even more striking.
Ye Yu had waist-length hair, mysterious and enchanting. Ye Qing had shoulder-length hair, more lively and pretty. These slight differences made them complement each other perfectly—at least, Ye Yu was very satisfied with this “little sister.”
After looting the spoils, Ye Qing started worrying about the body problem. Worst case, she could ask An Yueying to concoct a magic potion to dissolve it, but Ye Qing didn’t want to trouble her too much.
She already owed her too many favors. If she kept adding more, she’d never pay them back in her lifetime—she’d be stuck with her forever.
But the other pink-haired girl might be worth troubling… Last time, she had taken full advantage of her. Ye Qing needed to squeeze her hard for compensation.
Besides, now that the assassin had been silenced, she was at a loss for who was behind it.
So Ye Qing called Lin Shaoyao again in the dead of night.
She had met Lin Shaoyao once at the mansion and had been thoroughly teased. Now was the time to demand compensation. When the call connected, before Lin Shaoyao could complain, Ye Qing spoke first:
“Shaoyao, do you know how to dispose of a body?”
There was a moment of silence on both ends of the line.
“You do that kind of thing?”
Lin Shaoyao sucked in a sharp breath, as if seeing Ye Qing for the first time. Not that she could be blamed—it clashed with Ye Qing’s usual image.
“No, this was a killer. He deserved to die. And it wasn’t me who killed him. But the trouble was left to me. If you could, help me divine his purpose.”
“I’ll try. Any info? Names or something…”
“Yes. His name is Zhai Zheng.”
“No, it’s Zhai Ping.”
Ye Yu interrupted. Her voice was slightly softer than Ye Qing’s, past the age of voice change, now maturing into a crisp and pleasant tone.
Hearing this, Lin Shaoyao froze for a moment, doubts arising. Still, she took out her crystal ball. This time she was more cautious, remembering the last time she had collapsed from exhaustion.
She was worried Ye Qing would give her another tough problem.
Fortunately, this time the result surfaced easily—though it still consumed most of Lin Shaoyao’s magical power.
“Go to 102 City Avenue. Find a man called Lao Mo. He’s a professional corpse collector and knows this killer.”
After becoming familiar with this ability, Lin Shaoyao had learned ways to conserve magic, such as not divining the result directly but obtaining answers indirectly.
After a moment, Ye Qing’s voice came from the other end.
“Okay, thanks.”
“Hmph, what’s the use of just saying thanks? When you get back, I’m going to…”
Ye Qing hung up the phone, worried that Ye Yu, who had leaned in, might overhear something awful.
But more than that, she cared about another matter.
“Sister Xiao Yu, how did you know his real name?”
Ye Yu’s eyes curved. She raised her index finger to her lips, making a shushing gesture.
“Shh, secret.”
