Chapter 7: Possessiveness

“Wanghua Immortal Lord!” The elder of the Administration Hall was puzzled by his arrival but quickly stepped forward to greet him.

“Immortal Lord, what instructions do you have?”

“It seems the outer training opportunities for inner disciples have become rather scarce lately,” Shen Shengqing remarked.

“Ah… inner disciples have an annual assessment standard for going out to train. Generally, completing one level-five mission or two level-four missions is enough to meet the requirement,” the elder explained.

Shen Shengqing’s cold gaze swept over the shelves filled with various bamboo scrolls and books. “Are there any long-standing missions that no one has taken?”

“There certainly are. Please wait a moment, Immortal Lord, I’ll bring them to you.” Though the elder had no idea what Shen Shengqing was after, he knew better than to question him.

Before long, the table in front of Shen Shengqing was piled high with bamboo scrolls.

He reviewed them one by one, his brow slightly furrowed. They were all trivial, insignificant matters.

After searching for quite a while, he finally found a mission that was highly challenging for a Golden Core cultivator and would absolutely take at least six months to a year to complete—The Strange Events of Chen Village.

“Post this mission, and add a Thunder Resistant Pill to the reward. Only disciples at the peak Golden Core stage may accept it.”

Hearing this, the elder was inwardly astonished. [This is a Thunder Resistant Pill.]

As the name suggested, taking it could protect the user from a small portion of tribulation lightning damage. With this pill, the success rate of surviving the lightning tribulation increased by about 50%.

This would undoubtedly excite all those about to break through. But the Immortal Lord had specified that only peak Golden Core disciples could take it. Throughout the sect, there were only two disciples at the peak Golden Core stage.

One was the Wanghua Immortal Lord’s personal disciple—Mu An. The other was the personal disciple of Yi Chen, the Immortal Lord of Yunhe Peak—Yunnan You.

“Yes, Immortal Lord.” The elder accepted respectfully, taking the medicine bottle.

Shen Shengqing rose leisurely. Yunnan You was not his disciple after all. If he dealt with him harshly, it would violate sect rules.

If Yunnan You was sensible, he would accept the mission and go far away. After six months or a year, if Mu An had forgotten about him, then all would be well. But if he still didn’t know his place and dared to seduce Shen Shengqing’s disciple…

Then don’t blame him for showing no regard for a fellow disciple’s nephew.

After leaving the Administration Hall, Shen Shengqing unconsciously found himself at Mu An’s courtyard.

But he unexpectedly encountered an uninvited guest.

Dressed in pure white, Yunnan You stood with an upright posture, a medicine bottle in his hand, pacing back and forth at the courtyard gate, appearing very hesitant.

A cold glint flashed in Shen Shengqing’s eyes, and the corners of his lips curled with a hint of chill.

He stepped forward. The moment the other sensed his approach, Yunnan You immediately bowed. “Disciple Yunnan You greets the Wanghua Immortal Lord.”

Shen Shengqing lowered his gaze slightly, his icy eyes sweeping over Yunnan You from head to toe. He arrived at only one conclusion: ugly.

[How could someone so ugly have tempted An’an into willingly surrendering the first place in the sect tournament?]

Unable to wait any longer for the Immortal Lord to speak, Yunnan You dared not rise, though inwardly he was puzzled.

[I haven’t done anything to offend the Wanghua Immortal Lord, have I?]

“When did you meet Mu An?” A cool voice fell upon his ears.

Yunnan You inexplicably felt a bone-chilling coldness. His mind went blank for a moment, and he answered instinctively, “I met Junior Brother Mu An briefly when he first entered the sect.”

The coldness in Shen Shengqing’s eyes deepened. “How very long ago.”

Yunnan You dared not respond, only feeling the Immortal Lord’s pressure grow heavier, making it hard for him to breathe.

“Are you here to deliver medicine?” Shen Shengqing’s gaze fell on his hand. “And you have the nerve to offer such a low-grade pill?”

Yunnan You’s ears flushed slightly with shame.

“My disciple will be cared for by me. Without my permission, you are not to set foot on Qingjian Peak again.”

Yunnan You parted his lips slightly, wanting to ask why, but ultimately dared not voice the question.

The aura emanating from the Wanghua Immortal Lord was terrifying, as if the next moment he would draw his sword and cut Yunnan You in two.

“Yes, this disciple withdraws.” Yunnan You gritted his teeth, enduring the pressure as he backed away several steps.

Only after he had left the boundaries of Qingjian Peak did he feel his body relax. A strong taste of iron filled his throat, and traces of blood seeped from the corners of his mouth.

[They say the Peak Master of Qingjian Peak dotes on his only disciple, Mu An, to an extreme degree. From what I’ve seen today, the reputation is well-deserved. The Wanghua Immortal Lord must despise me for injuring Mu An in the sect tournament, hence his refusal to welcome me onto the peak.]

[The Nascent Soul stage is truly terrifying. Even though the Immortal Lord didn’t strike, merely releasing his pressure made my blood and energy surge uncontrollably.]

In the courtyard, Shen Shengqing felt as if a sponge were lodged in his chest, stuffy and unbearable.

He clenched his fists, walked a few steps, and went around to the back of the house.

There, fluttering in the wind on the clothesline, was the ceremonial robe he had given Mu An.

His heart tightened. With a wave of his hand, the robe flew into his grasp.

“Fool!”

“Ahchoo!” Mu An couldn’t help but sneeze.

[Host, maybe you should put on a few more layers. Don’t become the first unlucky soul in the cultivation world to die on Reflection Cliff. Otherwise, Reflection Cliff will soon be renamed Death Cliff.]

“Don’t worry, I’m perfectly fine. Someone must be cursing me.”

Unconcerned, Mu An nonetheless added more firewood to the pile.

“In martial arts novels, the heroes always like to carve cultivation techniques in caves. Why is our cave completely empty? Weren’t the people who came here to reflect before us bored? Didn’t they at least carve the date?”

[Carving one word costs three hundred spirit stones.]
