Join the Server“Holy crap! Is there something wrong with their brains! Doing dorm checks in our senior year!”
Chen Tong had only watched the football match for a short while before receiving a message sent by the dorm supervisor to their dorm group chat.
Mu An was also puzzled, “Are you going back then?”
Chen Tong glanced at the time and sighed helplessly, “It’s still early, I guess I’ll head back! I just took a leave of absence not long ago, the counselor won’t approve another one.”
Mu An saw Chen Tong off to the subway station.
On his way back to his rented apartment, Mu An inexplicably felt a chilling sensation, as if something were hiding in the shadows, tracking him.
“System, is someone following me nearby?”
[System scanning… Scan complete. Host, only the male lead is nearby; there is no one else.]
“Jiang Yan? What is Jiang Yan doing here?”
Mu An didn’t think Jiang Yan would be following him, merely surprised that the other had returned here even after hitting the big time.
Could there be some plot playing out here?
[System analyzing…]
After generating a log of Jiang Yan’s movements over the past hour, the system completely froze.
Why did the male lead go out of his way to tell the host’s landlord to forbid roommates, and why did he call the host’s university administration to report a student not returning to the dorm at night?
“System, why aren’t you answering me? Do you not have enough authorization?”
[I do…]
The system simply told Mu An the results directly.
Mu An’s footsteps faltered, almost thinking he had misheard, “What do you mean Jiang Yan had the landlord warn me against having roommates? What do you mean Jiang Yan reported someone for not returning to the dorm at night?”
His mind suddenly flashed back to the person who knocked on his door yesterday, his heart skipping a beat.
Could that have been Jiang Yan too?!
“System, can you check who knocked on my door last night?”
[Theoretically yes, but rewinding the plot by more than 24 hours for events unrelated to the mission requires 50 points. Are you sure?]
Mu An ground his teeth, “That’s so expensive! But considering my personal safety, let’s use it.”
The system had no idea why this matter would be tied to the host’s personal safety, but it still decisively exchanged the points to unlock the plot.
Upon seeing the plot, the system fell silent for a moment, seemingly struck by a considerable blow.
“System?”
[The person who knocked on your door last night was Jiang Yan, and he also placed a surveillance camera in your potted plant.]
“Holy crap!”
Mu An’s scalp tingled, and his hand hanging by his side clenched into a fist involuntarily.
He glanced at the pitch-black corridor behind him, entirely unable to see where Jiang Yan was hiding, his heart starting to race uncontrollably.
Mu An pursed his lips and instantly turned around, running toward a crowded area.
[Host, where are you going? Are you not going home?]
“Go home my foot! Jiang Yan is trying to take revenge on me!”
[Huh? Ah!]
Mu An ran without a moment’s pause, his fluffy hair looking like seaweed tossed in a rushing current in the wind.
Only after breaking into a bustling street did he finally slow his pace.
Panting heavily, he looked up a hotel on his phone with highly secure measures and walked in to check in.
Even after Mu An collapsed onto the sofa, the system had still not fully processed what had just happened.
[Host, why do you say Jiang Yan is trying to take revenge on you?]
Mu An took a sip of water and analyzed calmly, “Why would he specifically come and ring my doorbell last night? It was just to confirm that I live there!”
“He placed a camera in the potted plant to determine the time I go home.”
“Tonight, he repeatedly went out of his way to get rid of Chen Tong. It’s obvious he wanted to leave me home alone. How could that mean anything good?”
A flash of terror crossed Mu An’s eyes, “Who knows, maybe he wants to stab me in return for the stab I gave him back then.”
[It shouldn’t be! We put a sack over his head before stabbing him. There’s no reason he could have recognized you,] the system argued, clinging to a sliver of hope.
Mu An countered with a question of his own, “Then what other reason do you think he could have for doing this?”
The system fell silent.
It seemed there really wasn’t any other possibility. It hesitated, [Didn’t he give you fan service before?]
“Maybe he didn’t know back then, and only discovered the truth recently,” Mu An gritted his teeth silently.
Recalling the feeling of walking down the dimly lit road just now, Mu An felt even more creeped out.
“A normal person with no hidden agenda wouldn’t stalk someone all the time! Even a secret crush wouldn’t act like this!”
The system also believed it seventy percent, but still felt something was off, [Why didn’t he just call the police to arrest you, instead of risking getting his own hands dirty?]
“Idiot!”
Mu An felt that if the system had a physical body, he definitely had to shake its head and listen for the sound of sloshing water inside.
“Have you forgotten? We wiped all the surveillance footage on the road. He has no evidence, but he’s unwilling to just let himself get stabbed for nothing, which is why he wants to settle the score with us.”
[But it’s not like you can’t beat him. You still have the memories of practicing swordsmanship from the last world.]
Mu An lamented its incompetence, “Have you forgotten our mission? If I completely fall out with him, how am I supposed to execute the yandere sasaeng fan plotline in the future? How will I explain stabbing him out of nowhere?”
“It’s over! My mission still has 75% left to complete, yet I’ve already been targeted by the male lead.”
Mu An wailed toward the heavens.
The system also let out a lament, [It’s over! The host’s mission still has 75% left to complete, yet he has already incurred the male lead’s hatred!]
At the hotel entrance, Jiang Yan looked up at the building, feeling puzzled.
Why did Mu An hurriedly check into a hotel right after Chen Tong left?
But at least he wasn’t sharing a room with anyone strange; he should be very safe.
Jiang Yan stayed outside the door for half an hour. Only after making sure Mu An was no longer coming out did he finally turn and leave.
He was afraid that if he stayed any longer, someone might become suspicious or recognize him.
***
The following afternoon, under the blazing sun, Mu An returned to his rented apartment, quickly packed his belongings, ended his lease, and moved into a hotel.
He was determined not to give Jiang Yan any chance to come after him.
After finishing work, Jiang Yan opened the surveillance footage and immediately sat upright.
On the screen, Mu An could be seen carrying bags and dragging his luggage out of the apartment.
Jiang Yan clenched his fingers tightly, his eyes reddening as his heart seemed to take a heavy blow, leaving him with a dull ache in his chest.
Was Mu An moving because the landlord refused to let them share the apartment?
Did that mean Mu An liked that man?
The thought of those beautiful eyes of Mu An’s being filled with the image of another man made Jiang Yan’s heart ache terribly.
His fingers trembled slightly as he opened Weibo and quickly found Mu An’s account in the comments section, carefully looking through his recent activity.
Aside from reposting Jiang Yan’s Weibo posts and checking in at his usual fan sites, Mu An had only shared a few songs.
Looking more closely, Jiang Yan noticed that the songs Mu An had been listening to recently were all gentle, sweet love songs.
Jiang Yan’s expression darkened further as his fingers rapidly scrolled through the screen.
He went through Mu An’s accounts on various social media platforms. Among the many accounts connected to Mu An, Jiang Yan found one called “I’m Not Tong.”
Through the selfies posted on the account, Jiang Yan quickly learned that the person behind it was Chen Tong.
Jiang Yan considered himself superior to Chen Tong in every way, but Chen Tong had the advantage of being close to Mu An.
He noticed that Chen Tong’s recent posts were all about hoping to pass an interview at a major company.
Jiang Yan had worked with that company before. Without hesitation, he contacted them and asked them to give Chen Tong an opportunity, preferably one that included room and board so he could gain some proper experience.
Ideally, he would be so busy that he wouldn’t have the time or energy to pursue other men.
