Chapter 44: A Jealous Heart

Jiang Yan’s gaze fell upon the second male lead who was currently acting ahead.

Zhou Qijia was dressed in a vermillion belted brocade robe, his narrow sleeves sharp, and a wind machine raised his ink-black long hair; the youth’s chin was slightly tilted, exhibiting a hint of pride characteristic of a prestigious family’s son.

Jiang Yan’s brow furrowed slightly.

‘Why would An’an be interested in him?’

‘Could it be that An’an’s taste has changed, and he recently likes the “cool guy” type?’

‘When did Zhou Qijia seduce An’an?’

‘Is it because Zhou Qijia got off work earlier than him lately, and gave Mu An fan service when passing by?’

Over there, Zhou Qijia, who had finished filming, turned his head and ran straight into Jiang Yan’s gaze, inexplicably feeling a murderous intent lurking within the other’s slightly curved eyes.

In the drama, the second male lead he portrayed was a rival in love with Jiang Yan’s character, and on this very day, they still had two fight scenes left to film.

‘Is Jiang Yan trying to get into character?’

“Jiang Yan, run through the fight scene with Qijia.”

Spotting the two of them, the director quickly gestured for the staff to suspend them on wires.

“I didn’t expect the one you like to actually be Zhou Qijia. I thought he was so new that he didn’t have any fans.”

Hearing the sigh of the photographer beside him, Mu An tilted his head in confusion, “Who is Zhou Qijia?”

“…”

The photographer was completely speechless, “You don’t know! Yet you’ve been photographing him for so long!”

“Crap! I thought he was Jiang Yan!”

Mu An had thought he could finish work early and slip away, but it turned out he had been busy for nothing.

“Jiang Yan?”

The photographer kindly pointed at the person dressed in blue below, “That one is Jiang Yan, you fake fan.”

Mu An opened his mouth but stopped himself, feeling rather embarrassed; there was truly no one else who could be more unfamiliar with their idol than a candid photographer.

Who let that guy with Qijia in his name wear such vibrant clothes?

He had thought he was the male lead.

He quickly shifted his lens, and in his line of sight, Jiang Yan was finally suspended on wires.

In this fight scene, the two of them fought until yellow dust filled the air.

However, Mu An’s lens captured nothing but clouds of yellow smoke, devoid of any aesthetic appeal, and he couldn’t even capture the complete figures of the actors.

He curiously leaned toward the candid photographer’s side and couldn’t help but let out a shocked gasp, “Holy crap!”

Under the other’s high-definition lens, amidst the yellow sand filling the air, Jiang Yan’s high ponytail fluttered in the wind, and his dark blue brocade robe resembled blooming petals.

Holding a sharp sword, he pointed it straight at his enemy, his phoenix eyes dark, with a hint of a smile amidst his sharpness.

It perfectly combined youthful spirit with a swordsman’s sharpness, leaving anyone who saw it instantly spellbound.

The photographer looked at his reaction smugly, “This is what you call professional.”

“Wanna buy?”

Mu An hesitated for a moment, cast a glance back at the mess he had photographed, and turned his head away firmly, “Boycotting candid photographers starts with me!”

The photographer couldn’t help but laugh, “Forget it, I’ll give this one to you! Seeing how long you’ve followed him, even if you don’t have success, you’ve put in the hard work. But you are not allowed to post it online; you can only look at it yourself, so you don’t affect my sales of other pictures!”

“Deal!”

Mu An’s eyes lit up, and he added the photographer’s contact details, while the photographer enthusiastically introduced his other services to him.

“If you ever have a need in the future, remember to buy from me.”

Mu An fell silent.

Good grief, no wonder this guy was so generous; it turned out he wanted to secure a high-quality client in advance.

Someone like Mu An who had the free time to follow and photograph artists was likely deeply obsessed with them, making them prime potential clients.

Mu An didn’t refuse either.

Having obtained a picture for free, he set it as his lock screen again without a second thought.

On the other side, with the director’s call, everyone paused their performance, bringing the scene to an end.

Zhou Qijia rubbed his aching wrist.

Why was Jiang Yan’s strength so immense?

He didn’t hold back his strength in any of his strikes; several times he had almost failed to block, leaving his arm completely numb from the vibration.

Especially when they made eye contact, the murderous intent in Jiang Yan’s eyes gave him goosebumps all over.

‘Could this be the explosive moment of an actor’s performance?’

Jiang Yan returned his sword to its scabbard, his gaze inadvertently sweeping toward the hillside.

Only to see Mu An huddled next to a youth wearing glasses, the two standing extremely close, murmuring about something unknown.

Jiang Yan’s brow furrowed slightly as he watched the glasses-wearing youth open his phone, while Mu An also fished out his phone, apparently scanning a QR code.

His heart sank, and his grip on the hilt of his sword tightened to the extreme.

These candid photographers should all be locked up!

On the hillside, another candid photographer met Jiang Yan’s gaze and instantly squealed.

“Holy crap! Jiang Yan spotted us!”

The group abruptly picked up their equipment to flee.

Mu An was startled.

Looking up, he indeed made eye contact with Jiang Yan; although the vast distance prevented him from seeing the other’s expression clearly, the memory of his previous hundred-meter sprint experience was still vivid in his mind.

Jiang Yan would send people to catch them!

He had just obtained a free picture gifted by the photographer, and he absolutely couldn’t get caught and have it deleted!

Mu An quickly packed his things and turned to run, the group running like the monkeys racing in wild abandonment at the beginning of Journey to the West.

Realizing that he might have been spotted, Jiang Yan lowered his gaze slightly.

It was all his fault for sending someone to tell An’an to get down from the tree last time, leaving An’an with a psychological shadow.

“Jiang Yan! Your fight scene just now was simply too good, I almost couldn’t block it!”

Zhou Qijia stepped forward to strike up a conversation.

Jiang Yan raised his eyelashes slightly, looking at Zhou Qijia.

Zhou Qijia felt an inexplicable chill run down his back, “What’s wrong?”

“Do you need me to accompany you for some practice?”

Jiang Yan wore a friendly smile on his face.

Zhou Qijia instantly dropped his guard, his eyes filled with pure innocence. “Great! Let’s practice some more; there are still several fight scenes coming up.”

Jiang Yan wore a soft smile in his eyes as he stroked the hilt of his sword in his hand, “Don’t worry, I’ll do my best to help you.”

Mu An continued following the set for several days, to the point where he and the candid photographer had grown quite familiar with each other. Watching Mu An work so hard every day to take candid shots while the final results were unspeakably awful, the photographer could only gently advise him to change professions, lest he get caught by security one day and lose all face in front of his idol.

Upon receiving the notification that his system mission was complete, Mu An stopped being stubborn, packed up his things, and sped away from the film set.

The next day, Jiang Yan was already able to skillfully locate the hiding spot of the candid photographers, yet he failed to find Mu An’s figure among them.

Though he knew An’an had his own life to live, losing Mu An’s gaze felt like a piece of his heart had been hollowed out.

While filming the fight scenes, even Zhou Qijia could clearly sense his distraction.

Rubbing the bruise on his arm accidentally left behind by Jiang Yan last time, Zhou Qijia felt a restless urge stirring within him, attempting to retaliate.

Thus, right as filming commenced, he suddenly accelerated his offensive, trying to catch Jiang Yan off guard.

The next second, his sword was deflected away, plunging straight into the sandy ground.

Everyone was so shocked by this turn of events that they were left speechless. Realizing his own lapse in concentration, Jiang Yan hurriedly apologized, “Sorry, I was just focused on parrying and didn’t expect to knock your sword away.”

Zhou Qijia shook his head blankly, “It… it’s fine.”

The director blinked in surprise; this spontaneous reaction was even more crisp and decisive than what they had originally choreographed.

“Jiang Yan, have you ever practiced swordsmanship before?”

Jiang Yan froze for a moment, but a mental image of Mu An wielding a broom to shield him flashed across his eyes. “Just interested, I’ve looked into it a bit.”

The martial arts director was also puzzled, “Logically speaking, if you had practiced before, you wouldn’t have forgotten the name of the sword forms I taught you at the beginning. But without prior practice, being able to pick it up this quickly—perhaps you should really consider taking on more action roles.”

“Mm,” Jiang Yan replied casually.
